This is a convenient little year round farmers market in the parking lot of a small Moraga shopping center. Location is convenient (walking distance for me) and open 9a-1p Sundays only. The selection and quality are good (thank you California sun!) although some key items missing such as avocados,. I assume it's difficult to compete with local groceries perhaps. Some ready to eat food available, plants and a few gift items. The only downside is that pets are not allowed and I like to combine a visit with dog walk. read more

Salsa! OMG! I once lived in San Jose before moving to Lamorinda area, I miss the hot salsa so much! Orinda farmer's market is small, I visited several times but hadn't found this fresh Salsa! What a great Farmer's Market! For such a little town, they have a very big market. It had everything you could ask for and more! We went to a lot of different stands and got many things. My standards for farmers' markets are the Mountain View farmers' market and the St. Paul/Minneapolis farmers' market. Both legendary. You know what? Moraga Farmers Market is right up there. Why, you ask? It has everything you need. The vendors are kind. It's easy to park, friendly to seniors and children alike. Next door is a liquor store where you can pick up pairings for your farmers' market inspired meal. Protip: get two baguettes from Crispian bakery. They're delicious. Corn in season is amazing. Salmon from the fish vendor is expensive but way cheaper than if you had like quality in a restaurant. DM me and I'll share my award-winning recipe (fine it's a hand drawn award from my children but I'll take it over a James Beard award any day). This is more like 4+ but I am comparing to the Oakland temescal market which is pretty big. Good produce stalls, good prices. Berries, salmon, fresh corn, eggs- it's all there. Food stalls. I loved the stall that sold Asian produce. A ginormous bouquet of basil and Thai basil will set you back $2. I bought some peppers that I charred and devoured. Go and support! read more

We go to this farmers' market every single Sunday. Unlike Orinda's, the market here has been consistently diverse during the pandemic. Here are a couple of our faves: Pupusa stand Pupusas are $4 each (cheese, bean & cheese, or pork). They're not SoCal quality (or prices) but they certainly hit the spot and the best Salvadoran food we've found in LaMoraga. The quesadillas are made fresh, but in my opinion the pupusas are where it's at. Bakery by Moraga Rd There are 2 bakery/bread stands, but I've only ordered from this one. They have great chocolate croissants, large fruit danishes & yummy cheddar chive scones. Both strawberry stands Surprisingly, the strawberries during February have been AMAZING this year. Both apple stands Apples are in season at the end of the year which is when I recommend to buy apples from either stand. The shelf life of apples hasn't been great in February but are still more delicious than what we find at Costco. The best thing about the Moraga Farmer's Mkt is RELIABILITY. You can count on certain things always being there -- fresh + organic onions, lettuces, apples/oranges/berries -- in season or not (well, almost always on berries). There is supermarket-like consistency to the vendors, the layout, the selection. Of course, the flavors and freshness of various items ranges seasonally, but you will never have an experience where you can't get the basics. There are always plenty of vendors selling each item, so you can shop around for what looks best. The Happy Boy Farms stall always delivers great greens and root veggies. The fish is excellent and super fresh, if pricey. Bread, coffee, eggs, on and on. The only downside is that you may not often encounter that serendipitous farm stand joy finding something truly amazing that you hadn't at all expected: fruit or veggies that are so fresh and so vibrant and so tasty that you tear up the menu you'd planned and start completely over, building a meal around what you just found so fresh from the field. Bottom line: Long on reliability, variety and quality....a little short maybe on being the fountain of culinary inspiration. read more

The Moraga Market is great. That being said, they have a senior hour that is also great. I've noticed, because I buy from Swank Farms and know the price and watch my purchases. The gentleman that rings seniors, rounds everything up and considerably. Every other purchase that I heard was fourteen dollars, nineteen dollars, fifteen dollars. My purchase from his wife was $2.90. Please watch this guy. He is clearly taking advantage of seniors. If you cannot read the scale, ask someone to check it for you. read more

This place is a little bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, great selection of fruits and veggies!! Great selection of tomatoes and melons. Some good Asian veggies at decent prices. The egg lady is very good and you can get salted duck eggs! No one is selling fresh pasta, which is a pity, though. On the other hand, the few people selling meat and fish want a King's ransom!! I paid $6 a pound for chicken livers. Are you F'ing kidding me??? There is a Mexican food stand that was pretty awful, too. The Al Pastor was tough and tasteless and hard and had too many big pieces of grilled pineapple in it. The salsa was nasty. The tongue had not been cleaned properly, so I got pieces of taste buds in my meat. Ew. You are supposed to trim it before you make a taco out of it, please. Oh, there used to be a guy selling fabulous samosas, but he hasn't been there for the last few weeks, which was quite a disappointment. read more

This is a smallish farmers' market with about 30-40 stalls. There are two stalls with a large variety of vegetables - tomatoes, cucumbers. bitter melons, beans, greens including Bok Choy, Malabar spinach, you Choy or sweet Chinese mustard greens, and lots more. There's a flower stall and a potted plants stall. Plenty of fresh fruit stands. If you are looking for baked goods there's some choices, or if you want gifts for yourself or a friend you can but handmade soaps and lotions. Also, a big stall selling a variety of fish and another selling smoked fish. If all the shopping makes you hungry pick up coffee, tea or non caffeine drinks and Ecuadorian food. This little local outdoors market has brought so much joy to our community. It is in a large parking lot that was always considered dead space, and never used for anything. Now every Sunday when I pick up my bags and walk through the rows of fresh goodness I see neighbors and friends shopping with smiles on their faces, and happy. They look different when they are shopping at Safeway..!! There is an honor bar coffee stand, with a very high quality coffee. At one point they even had grass fed beef raised in the Moraga/Orinda hills. I actually wake up to the moooing of the said cows on our hills. Ever since the Moraga Farmers Market opened a couple of years ago, the Orinda Farmers Market has suffered. Seems like most people prefer the sunny and open location of this one better... The size is about 4 aisles of fresh goodness. Especially this time of year! At least 3 bread stands and tons of fruit and vege stands. Not much as far as prepared foods. There was also an organic farm raised meat stand and a farm fresh eggs stand if you are really serious about eating locally. The figs and white nectarines were amazing. I've been a few times with my mother but up until this morning I was never that impressed. The selection has definitely grown since my last visit (maybe last summer?) but the quality has remained the same - delicious. On a whim I got a pecan sticky bun from the pastry booth. I've never actually eaten a pecan sticky bun but for some reason they beckoned me from their sugary white box. What an excellent choice. The wonderfulness made up form the lack of nutrients. There were a ton of samples form the various stands, fruit is the specialty here but we also headed home with fish, flowers and nuts. For those who live in the area, it would be a travesty not to head down here next Sunday. The produce is leagues better than Safeway. read more

In addition to the usual produce staples that you can find here (there are three particularly large family stands that are noticeably bigger than the rest) you can also get kettle corn, a cup of fresh kettle percolated coffee, fresh and frozen seafood, herbs and spices, and the obligatory tamale stand. Smaller than Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill locations, but also much less crowded. There are finds to be had here to make it worth the trip. read more

I love this farmers market. I do all of my produce and perishable shopping for the whole week there. There are many organic booths and family owned farms represented. Nothing like seeing the seasons change week by week. Favorite booths: Danny's sea food and the preserved fish booth right next to him. Paul and Mary's honey and vinegar booth. The egg booth. This is the BEST Farmers Market that is still fully open. The very best peaches I have had in years are the O'Henry Peaches. I have purchased almost 100 lbs from Maria this summer. I learned to can and make jam from my Mom and still enjoy doing it today. This summer I canned some of the O'Henry peaches for my new grandson. He will start on solid food in November. Maria has been so friendly and awesome to deal with.....Everyone needs to hire more Marias. Her customer service is the very best. I used to go to Orinda farmers market until I discovered Moraga - wow what a difference! Tip - I usually go between noon - 1 pm, right before they close, and get discount prices on alot of stuff!! Must try: fresh squeezed OJ from the organge guys. This stuff is good as gold, and I buy some every week. Plus, lots of organic choices! Prices are good, less than Orinda but not oakland cheap. A well run market that is worth your time and good for your health! My fav is the Asian veggie booth in the corner near mccaulous. Beyond delicious seasonal California produce, the Moraga Farmers' Market also allows a certain number of non-produce vendors. My personal favorites include frozen Chinese treats (I try to always have a bag of their pot stickers in the freezer - 6 minutes to a yummy appetizer for drop-in guests!), a smoked salmon vendor, tamales (served hot or frozen to take-home), and Kettle Corn. Tons of flat parking keeps the entire trip easy. Open 9AM - 1PM every Sunday with a very few exceptions. read more

This farmers market is a weekly trip for my family. We love the Japanese farmer who has wonderful exotic greens that we're continually experimenting with. Also the orange guys from the Central Valley - they have the most incredible tasting blood and navel oranges. The market is not huge but has plenty of selections for all we need: vegetables, fruits, and desserts. The vendor we like best is the one that sells Chinese dumplings, fish balls, won-tons, shiu-mai etc. I haven't had won-ton that is so tasty, yet so reasonably priced for a long while. Also, their fish tofu is HEAVENLY!!! It is an excellent ingredient to add to a fire-pot for a wintertime meal. read more

Visited this Farmer's Market location on a Saturday, while in the area and was pleased with all the options, quality of produce, and ease of parking. I've been to many California Farmer's Markets throughout the SF Bay Area and Sacramento area. The reason I rated it a 3 wasn't not for its lack of quality, but was due to the majority of vendors that only accepted cash and the prices seemed high. I'd except those kinds of prices at Whole Foods but not at a small local farmer's market, which is why I frequent them. read more
