We enrolled our son at The Hillside School in second grade. He was there for three years then re-enrolled in seventh grade to help pilot the middle school program. The strategies he was taught in reading and writing along with skills in meta-cognition and self-advocacy have successfully supported him through high school and he will graduate in June. He was recently re-evaluated by our local school district in preparation for college admission. While he will always have a learning difference, he has tested out of needing specially designed instruction and hence an IEP. The faculty and staff at The Hillside School have consistently guided us with compassion and respect. Our investment in our son's education in his elementary and middle school years has been worth the time, effort and money put forth. My gratitude for Hillside is deep and wide. We celebrate our son's strengths every day and look forward to a bright future.

Parkland Invites Special Needs POC Senior(& Son of only Black Teacher) To Senior Honor Awards Only…read moreTo Be Forgotten Sad how you invited a senior with special needs to the awards, have him invite his family that drove hours to see it, to only sit in the crowd for two hours watching everyone else get called except him. Only to give him a measly certificate with a "4.0" gpa afterwards. When his Aunt asked who was responsible for all this, You asked who HE is. He is the son of the only black teacher you have. And you couldn't even bother to give him a correct certificate and call his name like you invited him to do so. Shame on you Parkland. I hope whoever is responsible for this KNOWS this did not go unnoticed and you should be the most ashamed.

I've been trying to schedule time off for my 2 girls. I wanted to take them to Disney in April but…read moreI needed to schedule the time share I was buying with in a few weeks so I called the school a few times and after the 3rd or 4th time somebody finally called me back and I didn't get nowhere with her so she said the principal would call me....she never did. Now it's past the time I had to schedule the vacation in April so now I have to goto Disney in the summer time when it's even more crowded and I don't get to escape this brutal Pennsylvania cold weather. While the principal wasn't calling me back I guess she was talking to my kids mother and she told her, according to the kids mother that the kids are only allowed to have 10 unexcused absences for 5 years. I never heard of such a thing, so the option of just taking them without the permission was out the window due to the scare fracture they put on the mother.
