I found this little hair salon in Kailua about a year ago and have been going there since. Kelley is simply amazing! Her little salon tucked away next to 7-11 is super clean, neat and very inviting! Kelley is a very talented hairstylist. I have been to many expensive salons, like Paul Brown, The Fix and etc... but Morea Studio is a real find. Kelley does not charge an exorbitant price for a hair cut even though her haircut is way better than some of the expensive salons! I get so many compliments for my haircut. SO happy I found this salon in Kailua town! My 'pandemic' hair was longer than it's been in decades - and while it was kind of fun, it wasn't flattering - and I needed a change. My hair isn't the easiest as its curly and frizzzy and requires a little extra TLC so you can imagine that when you find a good stylist - you stay with her! Can't say enough about Esme. She was wonderful. Greeted me and made sure I was comfortable. We discussed where I wanted to go with my look and she gave me great counsel on my color based on my needs and skin tone. I love this lush chocolate. She understood I want to grow it out a bit and really cleaned up the cut to be modern and sharp but also allow it grow out well. I often feel like I'm at the salon for a long time but the space is comfortable without being too big and she got me processing fast. The cut and style were smooth. Looking forward to being a repeat customer! Wish I'd found her sooner. I should also add that I contacted the salon for an appointment yesterday and they were able to get me in quickly which was awesome given the high demand in Hawaii. One of the hardest parts of moving is trying to find the right stylist. I first went to Donna on the recommendation of a friend 6 years ago when we moved back to Hawaii and I have not gone to anyone else since. It's rare to find a stylist who is equally skilled at color AND cuts, but Donna is. I've referred many people to Donna, including strangers who asked me who did my hair because they loved the color. She's great at giving me a style that fits my hair and one I can manage myself after I leave the salon. I get bored and sometimes just want to try something new. Even when I'm not exactly sure what I want, Donna listens to me and helps me figure out exactly the right change. Donna started off as my stylist, but she's become my friend. The only name you need to know is Donna. She is well worth the wait if she's booked out - there's a reason she's booked solid a lot of the time. I had Donna do an all over color - making my hair blonder - and then cut. Donna assessed my hair and let me know how much I should cut so that it's healthy (my ends were very sad looking and I went way too long between cuts) and how light I could go without damaging my hair more. She made me blonder which I love. She gave me an amazing head massage/hair wash, and then cut my hair once she confirmed that I was ok with the length it would be to get rid of the old, dead, & sad strands of hair. Afterwards she styled my hair so I really got to see how it would look. I love my hair and I love going to see Donna. She's always really kind and friendly and honest with me about the health of my hair and how far I can push it. She gives me tips and pointers on how to style it too! Kelley was absolutely amazing from start to finish! I have textured hair and I've always found it hard to find someone who knows what they're doing when it comes to my hair type. She asked me what I was going for and when I didn't know, she gave me some options that would best suit my hair type and goals of achieving healthier hair. I have killed my curls so much over the years that they've gone down to a dramatic wave. Kelley was able to restore my hair with a treatment that helped wake it up from the dead! My hair is so soft and shiny from it! She cut off all of my damaged hair and now I can run my fingers through it without it getting all knotted up and tangled. I still have a long way to go in training my curls but I know if I continue to come here for touch ups and keep training these bad boys they'll get back to their glory days. You get more than what you pay for when you get your hair cut or styled by Kelley. Even though I live in Honolulu, I drive out to Kailua just to get my hair done by her. She is worth the trip. If I could, I'd give more than 5 stars. The studio itself is beautiful! It is clean, newly renovated (!) with modern/minimalist interior. It's on the second floor, behind Bowles Burrito. I'm so excited for Kelley and her business partner for their new salon. She has been my stylist for 8 or 9 years. And for good reason. First for my review of the new place. When Kelley told me about designing her own salon and putting her own sweat and blood into the creation and ideas I knew it was going to be awesome. She puts detail and patience into all the crafts I seen her create. The first thing I noticed when driving up, was their private lot with free parking!!! A lot of other local boutique places in Kailua are surrounded by meters. It's nice to not worry how many quarters I have. Once inside it's welcoming and open. The waiting area is not cluttered and you immediately notice the help yourself to a beverage or snack area at entrance. Being that they are two women running their own place,if they are with a customer it's nice that they made it easy to make yourself comfortable. Also don't miss out on sissor wall clock, I'm sure a Kelley crafty touch. You always know your in good hands when you walk in and your stylist is on point. Cute style cute hair. Kelley is awesome and has many times convinced me to not burn my hair off with bleach. She shows she cares by advising and not just saying ok. I just say "your the expert". She has helped me have red,black, and all the way to blonde hair. Rainbow extentions and stylish vegas looks. I can always count on Kelley to help my vision be expressed in my hair. The friendly conversations make the time fly. Good music selection too. I have reffered countless friends her way with the confidence that the toughest critic would come away satisfied. I have seen her work on clients on all ages. Knowing styles that would make them look good. She blow dry and styles with her services. Wow! I called here looking for an appt and got the voicemail so hung up and attempted to contact via yelp. I got a message back within the hour to call if I wanted an appointment. So I called. I'm not sure who I spoke with but she was not friendly. I ahave curly hair. Anyone with curly hair knows that not everyone can cut curly hair. My hair stylist left the island so I've put off getting my hair cut Bc I have had some truly terrible cuts in the past from very well meaning stylists. And any good hair stylist knows that curly hair is not just any hair. I mean, in nyc where I came from there were even salons dedicated to curly hair!!! So when I asked the person who answered the phone for someone who was particularly good at curly hair, and she said "well I can't speak to how XXX is..." I was confused. Any professional should be able to see who of their colleagues is better at curly hair than others. And she was either having a bad day or just has a rotten attitude, Bc she made me feel extremely unwelcome for even asking about making sure the person was familiar with curly hair. Soooo, I won't be using this salon. They may or may not have stylists who cut curly hair well, but I wouldn't know. Poor poor customer service. Shame on you.
