The choice of dishes is pretty large and varied, with the menu including a useful selection of chef's recommended dishes which are especially tasty, spicy and full of flavour. The dishes themselves are nothing particularly different from a normal Indian restaurant menu, but it is all made to a fairly high quality and can be enjoyed in a restaurant which is nicely decorated and set out. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable, helping you to choose a dish to suit your palate (as well as warning you off any very spicy dishes) and ensuring you to have a lovely dining experience whilst in their company. A very pleasant place to go if you fancy an Indian meal in a restaurant environment.

The interior is nothing exceptional, standard 'curry house' kind of theme but its clean and inviting. The staff received me warmly and were pleasant and polite throughout. I had chicken Madras with plain rice, Garlic Naan and Poppadoms. The food was beautiful, the Madrass was just how I like it, just hot enough and not enough to enduce dehydration! the Naan was fresh and flavourful and was a great accompanyment. With a couple of Cokes the bill came to around £15, which I think was pretty reasonable.

Now I'm pretty sure this place doesn't specialise in grilled tiger, so I think it's safe to say their name is a nod to its Indian roots and that there is no need to get on the phone to the RSPCA just yet. Spice of Bengal in Ainsdale specialises in Indian and Bangladeshi dishes available either in a restaurant setting or to order and take away. Their takeaway menu is a bit sparse compared to the restaurant menu which is to be expected, but their eat-in menu is impressively extensive. Helpfully, there is also a section which breaks down what each type of curry contains and how spicy each one is, for all the curry virgins and n00bs amongst you. When I last visited I went for the lamb tikka chilli Bengal curry which, as you can imagine, was rather spicy. Despite how hot it was, it was still delicious as it managed to negotiate the fine line between being too mild and so hot it takes off several layers of your tongue. The restaurant is fairly pleasantly decorated and has a lovely dining atmosphere, with the staff being friendly and attentive at all times. If you're ever in the area, I recommend trying the Spice on offer here.

Fortunately the menu did its best to guide me in the ways of the Spice and helped me to make an excellent choice. The waiter even asked if I wanted my food more, or less, spicy. I enjoyed my meal very much when I went to Bombay Balti in January 09…read more The service I received from when I stepped into the restaurant to when I passed the threshold on my exit, was brilliant. It was a quiet night, so I can't comment on whether this is the standard or just that we were only one of a handful of guests that night. The menu was large and had all manner of indian and indian-inspired dishes. The temperature (spicey-ness) ranged from mild to ultra-hot, and all dishes were clearly labelled. Dishes ranged from £6.60 to £12 (for larger platters). The food came quickly after we had ordered, and our plates were cleared politely once we had finished. And once our meal had ended we were presented with complementary shots of Irish Cream. Which is a nice touch after a hot indian curry. For those who want to be silly, there is a small selection of English dishes, but I strongly suggest you should try something new from the plethora of dishes. A final note, the restaurant itself was pleasantly decorated in a modern minimal indian-inspired style, and the bathrooms were clean. And I would come again!

But the food is great and not too expensive. We had the general range of kormas and rogan joshs with bread and poppadoms, pickles and lager. Great. Exactly what you want from an indian restaurant. The decor isn't that bad either which makes a change from lots of indian restaurants. it's not the best curry locally - for that you have to go to Bolton le Sands - but I've always had a decent meal there.

So last weekend i paid Coriander a visit, the decor is rather 70's but luckily i had read the menu on-line and knew i had not just walked into yet another Indian that offers the same old same old menu that most in Rusholme do. The large group i had gone with booked our table, and upon arriving until leaving the service was prompt and considerate without making us feel in a hurry. All the meals arrived at the same time, and mind-blowingly delicious (yes we all dipped into each others dish as standard on a girly night out). I would recommend the Coriander Special Dal £7.20, Chicken Shaslic £8.90 and the Sag Alloo which was delicious and always my benchmark of finding a gem of a restaurant when it comes to Indian cuisine.

Full in a good way. My boyfriend and his Dad both enjoyed their chicken curries and we all commented how much more we enjoyed this meal than a curry mile curry. The staff were amiable, and curious as to what our opinions of the restaurant were, as they commented that they hadn't seen us before (this place must have a solid set of regulars). The only downsides to this restaurant are the location (a bit of a walk from both Chorlton and Didsbury, and opposite the cemetery) and the outdated decor.

I got racially abused a hell of a lot in Manchester but it still has a lot more life to it than most places I've ever been. One of the all-time highlights of not just Manchester, but the whole UK, is Curry Mile. It doesn't get much better. Some of the best curries in town, all kinds of wonderful South Asian, Middle Eastern, you name it, all sorts of food that will blow your mind. I've been coming here since I was little. It's a rough area but so is your nether region when unshaved. So my highlight will always be Rusholme Chippy, which is not so much a chippy but a kebab house, featuring the best Kobedeh Kebab in the entire world that I've ever had. Open late and a must-try.

But how many of them have an entire mile dedicated to Indian food? Rusholme's section of Wilmslow Road is where you'll find a vast array of curry houses hotly anticipating your custom, as well as the obligatory variety of off-licenses due to the Bring Your Own Booze policy of many of the restaurants... Then, there's that which the uninitiated won't have heard of - the many Indian sweet shops and ice cream stops ideally placed for that one wafer thin mint that'll nickname you Mr Creosote after filling your belly with more spicy sauces than are humanly healthy. If you have relatives or friends visiting and they like it hot, a visit here is a must. At first, it's completely mind-boggling. What differentiates one curry house from the next? Don't they all serve the same food? Well, this is where Yelp does the hard work for you - we're here to Yelp you after all. Take the ones you're interested in. Maybe they offer something a little different? Sri Lankan cuisine, a charcoal pit, Pakistani, Punjab, Afghan... then search them in Yelp and see what we have to say about them. Heck, we're like one of those price comparison websites. We're your middleman. We went to the bad ones when we were students, so you don't have to. The Curry Mile also has a policy somewhat alien to the rest of the UK. Rusholmers live like New Yorkers. If you want curry at 4am, you can get curry at 4am. A lot of these places stay open well into the wee small hours and then some. Everyone should visit here at least once. It's bright and shiny enough for tourists, authentic enough for foodies, cheap enough for students, lively enough for groups and different enough for just about every taste. Definitely put this on your to-do list if you're new to the great city of Manchester.

Arong is yet another takeaway along Waterloo's South Road but unlike many others, it manages to stand out due to the quality of its food. As with most restaurants and takeaways that specialise in Indian cuisine, Arong offers all the usual types of spicy food made to a very high standard, all of which is available to be collected at a later time or delivered to your front door if you're feeling lazy. The prices are a bit steep with certain dishes, but it's definitely worth paying a bit more than you would for a kebab and chips considering the quality. As well as the usual types of curries, Arong also offers "exotic" dishes for those of you who feel a bit more daring. Ones to watch out for are the 'Mongolian Dish' and 'Naga Balti', both of which are full of various interesting flavours whilst maintaining a spicy kick.
