This is a small museum and store near Carter Caves State Park. On closer inspection a single window air conditioner connects the property to more recent times. Our excitement builds! This is the kind of place that excited me as a child - the kind of place that has not been commercialized and sterilized by the expectations of modern pampering - the kind of place we anticipate exhibiting and selling unique items. My sons and I pulled into the gravel parking lot and could not have been more excited to stop. We were on our way to meets my parents for a visit at Carter Caves and decided to stop in just for a moment to give things a quick look. If it checked out we'd come back in a couple of hours for a complete tour. We were the only ones there at about 12:30PM. Wide variety of items immediately drew us in. The collection ranged from Native American through WWI, WWII, and Vietnam (and more and more). Some of the collection is exhibited in a library fashion such as the large collection of magazines and posters. The magazines and some of the exhibited items are for sale. Other portions of the collection, like most or all of the Native American exhibits are strictly not for sale. We spoke briefly with the owner, Mr. Jim Plummer, and we promised to return in time to enjoy the whole collection before he closed at 5PM. When we returned we went through the place as carefully as we could for perhaps 90 minutes. The boys enjoyed the dinosaur teeth and Megalodon teeth and began putting together their purchase requests. I spent a decent amount of time admiring the Nazi Germany items and the American Civil War items, but my real interest was with the Native American collection. I have been through many of Ohio's Native American museums many times including the Ohio Historical Society Museum, Serpent Mound, Fort Ancient, and the Hopewell Cultural National Historical Park (as well as Ohio County Museums) and this collection was spectacular in comparison. The artisan artifacts made of pottery, copper, and slate were fascinating. The emphasis of the collection was ceremonial items though a wonderful collection off utilitarian items was exhibited as well. This time we were one of perhaps three or four groups of people touring the museum and store. We we now required to share Mr. Plummer's attention with other folks interested in the original issues of Life magazine, Nazi knives, and a group of ladies very much interested in the modern collection of jewelry Mr. Plummer has for sale with the assistance of his girlfriend's artistic eye. Each lady seemed excited about their purchase and successively vied for Mr. Plummer's attention and his Southern charm. We look forward to returning soon and speaking more with Mr. Plummer. If you plan a visit, please be sure to engage him with questions about the exhibits. If you do you will be welcomed with a wealth of information from a knowledgeable historian. I am certainly a fan of this place, my rating is based off of the expectations and location. Obviously this museum in not on par with the Smithsonian Museum or the Musée du Louvre but my rating is based on comparable exhibits. The Native American collection would rate 5 stars.

We lost one of the owners of the land we set up our big red and white tent at. We will love and miss you forever TEDDY H, you touched our lives in a very special way that none of us will ever forget my friend. We also are suffering the loss of one of our friend/family member that set up with us a few weeks ago, and as Teddy, Tommy H. will always be loved, remembered and missed. These are two men that can never be replaced in our hearts. On the brighter side we will be at our normal spot under the big red and white tent close to the road. Now the task of making us all laugh and to have a great time will be left up to Jacob ( the other owner) and his sons who are all SUPER awesome. If you have not been there you must come. The whole town of Preston KY. will welcome you. The flea market areas, the front and back yards of every home, the edge of the road are all filled with vendors selling, produce, all types of equipment, perfume, appliances, wheels & tires, guns & ammo and much more. Did I mention the carnival style food vendors but especially the at "THE HITCHING POST" the Amish food (FISH or STEAK SANDWICH and THE WORLD FAMOUS FRIED STRAWBERRY AND CREAM PIES). Plenty of tent setup for shopping. You can buy knifes, guns, clothes, jewelry, oils, socks, carpets, etc... I must say, I can't remember the name of one of the tents that was setup but be warned. They sell hoodies & sweatshirts 4 for $10. Sounds good don't it? There's a catch. Every single piece is sealed in a bag. They WILL NOT, let you open it. Why? Because some of those have holes or stains. I was saved because I overheard a lady warning people that shopped there last year. I had 16 packages that I decided to put back because they would not allow me to open the bag and view te clothing. My friend put some of hers back and decided to just take a chance on 4. I asked her to open the bags. One of the shirts had a huge stain in it, the other 3 were fine, just had a lot of lent on it. There's no returns and no refunds. So, yes the prices are cheap but your taking a chance on getting junk. Other than that, I had a great time, the people were friendly.

I have never seen the rest rooms closed, maybe a stall once in awhile yet it is always clean. It doesn't have a large staff but that goes with the amount of business they get. So many people stream the theaters are on the decline but I love the theater experience. I have seen it packed but have never run into a rude or unruly customer. Like anything else if people don't support local businesses they disappear then you will say remember when we used to see movies in a theater. It was and is fun. I really like they don't always play only 1 type of movies. They might have 1 or 2 kids movies but also a few adults would like. At $8 for adults & $3 for children (4 & under free), it was more affordable than going to a regular theater where you'd only get to watch one movie. Their radio station played oldies until time for the movie, so it felt like we were in the heyday of drive in theaters. I liked that they had a cartoon short before the double feature, & that there was a countdown before both movies so I knew how long I had to get through the concession stand. Having actual food there is a big bonus! Nothing beats dinner & a movie, especially when you can get it all in one place. The butter machine for the popcorn is on the customer side, so you can get as much as you want. We got drinks, candy, popcorn, a pizza & an order of cheese sticks. The prices were reasonable & it was all good--fast & fresh. The screen was crisp, clear, big & bright--good quality & enjoyable to watch. In my opinion, an employee parking people, or at least driving through before the movie starts, would make the experience even better. Most of the customers were taking an extra spot for their chairs, which is against the rules & resulted in a lot of people having to park adjacent to the screen or far away, & there were some tall trucks toward the front that blocked the bottom of the screen.
