I haven't been here in a while. This place is ABSOLUTE Trash!…read more If you get dropped off "behind" the station, just know it's ALL UNDER construction. I had to walk the "walkway bridge" to get to the station. The elevator was out of service. There was only 1 escalator that went up. So, if you are disabled, you can't get down into the station from the walkway. This place needs a SERIOUS OVERHAUL. Demolish it and start over!! Just like with all of the new build that surrounds this place, and hides how absolute disgusting it is! Seats to wait at, are old. Floors are dirty. Bathroom was ATROCIOUS! Hand dryers are made for little kids, and you will have to bend down low just to use. There was no soap to even use. Only 1 bathroom sink worked. There was about 1 foot left on the toilet paper roll on the stall that I used. Amtrak signs to signify departures/arrival information is up so high, that you can't even see the board fully if you're in the waiting area Also non of the "automated doors" worked. NONE. Cant imagine what this is like for those disabled, in wheelchairs etc. There is still a little cafe inside, and vending machines. Also machines to buy Amtrak, Marc tickets Outside construction is new to the building of the new Purple line. Honestly, I would rather go to BWI or Union station for my Amtrak needs

Now, this station is very congested usually in the morning. The station is clean and it has a parking lot. I wouldn't say that the people are friendly, but no one bothers me (lol). Like any other station, you have some weirdo's; just ignore them and you'll be fine. The good thing about this station is that you're within walking distance from Addison Plaza, so if you're hungry, thirty, or just want to shop a little you're just minutes away.

I then walk a short distance, past all the people "posted up" against the rail to the C 21,22,29 Bus stop to find a crowd of people standing as closely to the curve as possible, in a "I'm getting on first" fashion. In the midst of that clutter, there is always some middle aged bum with a beard that pulls out a Marlboro 100 and lights it - he inhales his cancer stick, and spews out the remains into the air where all the school kids are waiting as well. I felt so bad for this one kid standing behind him as he blew the smoke right into her face. Also, forget about getting a seat on the bench - There is always this young gal and her 5 kids taking up all the seats. She is sure to sit them sparingly throughout the bench while she watches them from a distance and takes her much needed "smoke break". If her kids don't take up all the seats, her bags will. But wait - there is more! The guys are atrocious! They will squeeze their way unto a bench, and if you walk up and even look at them - they will pretend your not their, or blast their music so they cant even hear you ask too sit. When the bus arrives - they pop up and run to the front and will look at you like your retarded if ask for their seat (which most woman don't, they just end up standing on this overly crowded, loud, long bus ride). The Hispanics only get up for their kind, and the young black guys are just a joke when it comes to chivalry. I only seen a young black male get up once for someone and in him I said "humanity restored". Well this is just a sum up of what you will expect at this station.

There's multiple levels. Parking is $4.95 daily. Weekends are usually free unless there's an event at UMD (like a game) then it's $15 from what I've seen... could be more by now. Over the last year, there have been some challenges getting to the station due to the purple line construction. Not sure when that'll be completed but lately it hasn't been too bad! I'm so glad they recently brought back the yellow line. If you miss a green line train, a yellow one comes right after! There's still occasional delays but no overall complaints. The employees at this station are super helpful. I'm late to the game but I finally downloaded the smart trip app and use it to enter the station. No need for a physical card.

However, this place is a mess with the never ending, ongoing construction of the Purple Line. I do not know how many times I have missed my connection because you have to travel their rat maze to get to and from the station. I mean, I have literally just missed my bus each and every time I have gotten off of the train. Pros for this place is that they have a parking garage. Bike parking is available as well. Connection with buses, Metro and PG, and with MARC. I really do enjoy this station, if only they can finish at least a bit of the construction to allow for better flow of foot traffic. It's always rushing around, but never getting anywhere.
