This is basically the modern day version of the tonic salesman of yesteryear. You will be sent on your way with overpriced herbs and promised miracles. I've lowered it from 2 stars to 1, due to my continued bad dealings with Alcat via Dr Camp (google: Alcat Scams, to see how this company operates).
My first visit was almost exactly what they advertise on their website. I sat down with the Dr for about an hour and went over all my current and past ailments while he scribbled it down on paper. Most of my problems relate to some very serious gastrointestinal issues I've had, but most of those were fixed via 5 separate surgeries I had last year. I had some extreme complications from one of the surgeries that has had some lingering effects, some of which are what brought me to Dr Camp. I didn't appreciate that as I was leaving and paying my bill after this first visit, the guy behind the desk began discussing my private matters with me and had the nerve to tell me I could have avoided all the surgeries if I'd come to Dr Camp first. I don't think his room of magic herbs can cure esophageal cancer.
After the first visit he recommended some testing for food sensitivities and some blood tests for other issues. One of the test kits goes to Metametrix and/or Genova Diagnostics (type either of those in your search engine with the word "complaints" or "reviews" after it and you'll see how sketchy they are via all the complaints). I had called them first to see how they would bill my insurance. The girl on the phone danced around my questions. Today I had to pay the bill in full as they never billed my insurance.
The blood tests are mostly done via a kit that gets sent off to a facility. Dr Camps office sent me to Labcorp who doesn't do that sort of kit testing so I had to find another place on my own. You'd think his office would be aware of this! None of these places (including Dr Camp) take insurance so all the visits and testing are done out of your pocket.
The second visit came about 3 weeks after the first, when all the lab results were in. I sat down in Dr Camps office to review the results with him. First thing he says is "well, this is just what I suspected". He fumbled his way through the results, going over numeric values of various things and made some recommendations. Ironically, the tests showed nothing wrong. The tests showed negative for yeast, but he said since I had taken antibiotics previously in my life, I probably had a yeast infection now. My vitamin D and B12 levels were within the parameters on the sheet, but he was adamant that I needed those supplements. The real kicker to me that day was his recommendation to take Noni fruit pills to rid my intestines of the yeast. This is the latest "miracle" fruit. There are some wild claims on the internet that it fixes all sorts of ailments (I can't seem to find a list that says it clears up yeast).....sound like a miracle tonic to you?
The humorous part that day was watching Dr Camp stumble his way through my ailments. He mentioned symptoms I've had in the past and spoke of them as though I still have them. Most of the stuff he mentioned were things I had surgery for last year. If I still had them now, I'd be in pretty bad shape! Some he didn't even get right. He made some derogatory comments toward "typical Marin County residents" being whiney and weak, which struck me odd since I assume being in Mill Valley, that's who most of his customers/patients are. He sent me on my way that day with some overpriced supplements (ex, Vitamin D $20 ($8.99 on Amazon), Dr Ohhira probiotics $125 ($84.99 on Amazon), etc...) Not to mention the miracle Noni Fruit extract to cure my supposed yeast infection (with something that isn't even advertised for doing that).
Another item he sold me was powdered charcoal. He claimed it would detox my insides and to take it twice a day. That is a claim with no clinical research support. What is known is that you will not absorb many nutrients while ingesting the charcoal because it will absorb the nutrients and you will pass them. He recommended I take that stuff for a month and warned that I'd feel some flu like symptoms and to be sure to call his office staff. Of course I would feel sick if I'd taken that stuff. I guess that's his deal, make you feel really bad for a month, then pick you back up to your normal level again so you think he's worked a miracle.
Read the other reviews carefully as some sound like they're written by office staff. I received a call from their staff about a week ago offering me a refund and making mention of this Yelp review. I wish I'd read a review like this and saved my money.
Learn your own lesson and go here or learn from my mistake. It will cost you big bucks and you'll end up at a real doctor anyway. I did. A quick round of antibiotics and I'm feeling good now...minus my rather light wallet. read more
