To me, this felt more like a money grab than a reasonable policy, especially since I was the one offering to hire and pay for the attorney. In my experience working with other attorneys, I haven't run into this type of restriction before. I also followed up directly by phone but did not get the clarity I was hoping for. Because of this, I decided not to move forward with the firm. This was just my personal experience, and others may have different ones. My grandma originally filed form I-130 for me but there were complications and my case was closed. When my mom remarried, my step dad filed another form I-130 but then withdrew it when they divorced.
