The teachers are not only skilled and knowledgeable in their craft, but they are also kind and compassionate. They have classes that start as early as 18 months (mommy & me) and run all the way through adult fitness classes. The school is divided into several divisions. Children's (the youngest through around age 8), student (8 through around 14), pre professional and graduate. Anyone can participate in the children's division, but you need to audition for placement in the student division. PBT also has an adult fitness/wellness curriculum that has classes like ballet 101 and Pilates. The staff and teachers are absolutely wonderful. They genuinely care about each and every kid (or adult) in their class. PBT as a whole is wonderful as well! They do several mainstage productions a year including the Nutcracker every December. They are always creative, beautiful and just a joy to watch and appreciate the artistry. I especially love when they are productions with the orchestra. Overall, an amazing organization with a wonderful school and great productions.

I enjoy the Pittsburgh references to the story and in the scenery but, really, the hockey-stick-carrying penguin, the rats waving "terrible towels" were a bit strange. As were the "local celebrities" who were given non-speaking, non-dancing (thankfully!) roles as party guests-- why?? What could be next? Pittsburgh Dance Moms in minor roles? Apparently I prefer a more traditional version of The Nutcracker. I missed some of the costumes and dances from the original Balanchine production. I know that some will say that it's predictable and static to do this the same way every year, but when I think of this ballet, it is what I want to see. That being said, the dancers were wonderfully talented and executed their movements perfectly. We are fortunate to have their talent in Pittsburgh!

It is easy to access the theater, and there are a variety of seating options (including two sections of seats at the sides of the stage). They have accessibility aids like assistive listening devices. Restrooms are clean and spacious. The only down side is that the theater seats are on the smaller side. If you have a larger body, it may be a tight squeeze into the seats. This kind of thing is really disappointing in a new(ish) theater. But overall, high quality productions and a great place to see a show.

Jamie writes plays for the kids to perform and even teaches gymnastics. My daughter takes the "triple threat" class (act/dance/sing) and she loves it. It's always something fun for the kids. We will probably add more classes on as covid slows. Definitely recommend for young kids looking to get some fun experience in the performing arts.

They keep it up really well and make sure that it is clean for every show. They also keep the chandeliers clean and the paint updated. The ushers are always helpful and the staff at the concessions are nice too. We have seen so many wonderful Broadway Shows and concerts there with so many talented performers. We're so lucky to have such amazing talent and so many amazing shows come to Pittsburgh every year. We're also starting to get some of the most popular and current shows from Broadway. The concerts are so much better there since it's a small venue and most seats are good seats. They have artists from all different genres which is nice too. We have also seen some good comedians there too. If you want to see a good show then you should see it at the Benedum.

A new age theater in an old school building New Hazlett…read moreTheater is situated in the bones of the original Carnegie Hall on the Northside. Huge perk for this theater is the free parking! With a partnership with AHN, they direct you with ample signage and the lot is simple to enter right across from the theater! The area is beautiful and very safe! Tree lined sidewalks and clean areas around. The theater is a little outdated in entry. For a small capacity, you stood outside in line for an extended time due to a single ticket taker with a clipboard list. This delayed the performance by 15 minutes as he struggled to check people in. The lobby is centered around a bar for refreshments. The tickets are sold per section (A-D) without specific assigned seats. We set in the mezzanine and entered through the second floor. Some of the seats are "dangerous" with small catwalks and seats perched with no floor behind them. My friend actually lost her shoe mid performance as it fell through the opening. The productions are limited in set design and technology due to the theater size but there are plenty of plays and shows that don't require as much. If you have a chance to check out New Hazlett, I'd definitely recommend it.

There are resident companies that use the space, but various organizations and companies can also rent the space. Which means there is a nice mix of programming available. There are seats around the stage (which aren't always used for each performance) and upper and lower level seating. One thing to note is that their seats are not that wide, so if you are a larger patron or have a wider bottom, it will be a tight squeeze. Sight lines are great from everywhere and it is easy to hear. Parking is available for free in the garage right near the theater. A great place to catch a show!

Patrons felt like they were performing their role as a live studio audience being present within a radio studio as actors performed their characters while audiences in attendance played their parts well applauding laughing & other reactions towards scenes. Seating arrangement available here is excellent providing wonderful stage views within. Seat design isn't perfect so my recommendation would be bring a comfortable seat cushion & sit in comfort. Concession selection is simplistic have limited snack & drink options consisting of chips candy soda & water at cheap modest prices. Like their snacks their tickets are also cheap. It's good news for church groups & organizations wishing to offer cheap quality entertainment for their group.
