We were impressed with Jenny's experience working with medical practices in the area. - Immediately, I appreciated Jenny's straightforward nature when it comes to financial and time quotes for work needed for tax preparation and personal / business filings, including 1096 and 1099. - It was an especially difficult task, considering my numerous spreadsheets and unreconciled ends left from previous CPAs. - Through a friendly and receptive staff (especially Ms/ Kimber Spickert), sensitive information is communicated both ways in a timely fashion. - An encrypted portal is used to manage the uploading/downloading of all forms and supporting material, including signature forms. - All extensions and filings were completed on time!!! Furthermore, Topp & Lau partners with an excellent payroll system (Heartland, associate: Michele Holmes) that has been instrumental in our personal and business transitions to W2 where applicable. As mentioned, the firm is straightforward with costs, utilizing an engagement form and including fees for technology costs and time need for reconciliation of disparate accounts. Their pricing is on par with that of previous CPAs and my understanding of the market in Los Angeles (though their firm in in Orange County). ***However, we were very happy with the work that was completed for our businesses, including both savings and ongoing considerations as we bought a house and have a child on the way! I look forward to seeing how our relationship with Topp & Lau will evolve over the year. Vs. an H+R Block or some other place where they process you, Lisa and her in-house tax expert spent a considerable amount of time making sure they dotted every i and t on my return. In terms of bookkeeping, I haven't used FAST because I don't run my own business, but Lisa has been in business for more than 25 years and has a large book of longstanding clients, which I think speaks for itself.

They also give you excellent individualized advice without putting their hand out for a fee. I always ask numerous questions about anything from 401k deductions and retirement planning to real estate tax implications and they'll answer over the phone like they're talking to family. Importantly, Ginger is on top of all the new tax law issues. Best of all, her rates are incredibly competitive - my tax return costs about half of what all my friends and co-workers have to pay! I would urge you to go early if you can, but I often go late because I'm waiting for 1099s to arrive. I ended up with a much larger refund than I would've gotten fumbling around with turbo tax. When he finally responded, he told me that the appointment time was given away by his assistant. Despite it being "first come, first serve", the time I claimed first was given to someone who contacted them after me. Now he has no more evening appointments, because they were booked up during the two days he ignored me. The sooner I file my taxes, the sooner I can get my refund to put toward my kitchen remodel. I don't feel it's fair at all to tell me that I need to pick a new date and time, when I requested the booking first. I guess the person who got the appointment time was more important than me. Obviously, this was disheartening after all the business I brought this place between me and my referrals. ***In response to your comment Oliver, I understand that family emergencies happen. However, why am I the one that needs to pick an alternative date or time when I selected the date first? However, I utilize an out of office response as a means to notify my clients when there is an absence or extenuating circumstance. Had you set up an out of office encouraging clients to call your assistant to book an appointment, I would have most certainly done so. Instead you left me in the dark and booked someone else during my designated time. It's a lack of customer service that cost you my business. You booked someone else during my time, and instead of apologizing, you made excuses. Even in your response to this review, you state, "I'm sorry you felt..." instead of apologizing for your mistake. BEWARE - this tax group may have stolen our tax refund…read more We used this company to file our state and federal tax returns for tax year 2023. The problems started right away. After we approved the draft returns they sent, they filed them. Problem is, when I asked for copies of the returns they filed, the information had been changed without our permission! They increased the amount of refund we requested from roughly $10,000 to $35,000 AND CHANGED THE BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER TO A PREPAID DEBIT CARD THAT WAS SENT TO THEM. When I found out (6 months ago) I called them and they said they had been "hacked" and they would fix the problem. Well 6 months have gone by, and I haven't been able to talk to the guy who filed my tax returns despite trying to get into contact with him by calling, emailing, and texting. I still don't have either my state or federal returns, and I am now locked out of my state FTB account, and I may now face an IRS audit. Save yourself a headache, don't let them anywhere near your tax filings. This is a nightmare I can't seem to get out of, and no end is in sight.
