Unfortunately, I have to come back and update my review after years of using Oliver's services and sending at least two referrals his way. Oliver gave me dates and times he's available, and after I selected and confirmed a time, I was ignored for two days. When he finally responded, he told me that the appointment time was given away by his assistant. Despite it being "first come, first serve", the time I claimed first was given to someone who contacted them after me. Now he has no more evening appointments, because they were booked up during the two days he ignored me. The sooner I file my taxes, the sooner I can get my refund to put toward my kitchen remodel. I don't feel it's fair at all to tell me that I need to pick a new date and time, when I requested the booking first. I guess the person who got the appointment time was more important than me. Obviously, this was disheartening after all the business I brought this place between me and my referrals. ***In response to your comment Oliver, I understand that family emergencies happen. However, why am I the one that needs to pick an alternative date or time when I selected the date first? It should be the person that called after me that should reschedule... this is assuming that it's "first come, first serve "as you stated in your email. Second, I also have a client facing career. I recently had a medical emergency come up... that is not foreign to me. However, I utilize an out of office response as a means to notify my clients when there is an absence or extenuating circumstance. Had you set up an out of office encouraging clients to call your assistant to book an appointment, I would have most certainly done so. Instead you left me in the dark and booked someone else during my designated time. It's a lack of customer service that cost you my business. You booked someone else during my time, and instead of apologizing, you made excuses. Even in your response to this review, you state, "I'm sorry you felt..." instead of apologizing for your mistake. This is my third year working with Oliver on my taxes, and I won't go anywhere else. I've been to two other accountants who came highly recommended. The first were just overpriced and super salesy - it felt like most of them had sales targets to hit. I'm just sorry that it took me several years of using them before realizing I was taken advantage of. The second was fairly priced but had very poor customer service - didn't honor appointments, etc. Oliver is honest, ethical and respectful of his clients' time. Over all good experience the tax preparation was easy and quick since my wife and i always come prepared. The only thing I feel awkward is that there is no one in the front office.... maybe cause it was on a Saturday . And also you have to call the office number to inform you are there and a bit awkward because you just here the phone ring in front of you when you know you are there already. This year was my first year using a tax preparation service. Luckily, the good reviews for The Taxperts pointed me in the right direction. They handled my case perfectly. I had a situation where I had to file a very simple extra form, and normally extra forms increase the preparation cost. Since it was an easy form, they gave me a large discount on the cost of filing it. I also had a tax form arrive late, and they helped me amend my return very easily and at very little cost. I walked out of Oliver's office today in pure awe. I could not believe how painless and quick he had made the entire process (while being absolutely thorough). I hate doing taxes (who doesn't?) but he was so knowledgeable and professional that I felt 100% at ease. I had called several different places in the area prior to our appointment today, asking the same set of questions on each call. He was the single most helpful, honest and well-spoken person I could find on the other end of the phone, and I am so glad I went to him instead of somebody else. I've learned my lesson. In an effort to find the 'best' accountant to help me avoid paying 'unnecessary' taxes, I was suckered into engaging a shady accountant. Read my previous post about a certain person with the initials LD. I've learned to be honest in your filings without dealing with the hassle. In my desperate hour, I turned to Yelp to help me find an accountant. 'The Taxperts' appeared at the top of the list. Actually Taxperts OC is represented solely by Oliver. The guy is AMAZING. He loves his job and it shows. His knowledge and ability to explain the numbers on your filing is really unusual. I've dealt with several other accountants who charged me a hell of a lot more that did a lot less work than Oliver. He was very prompt on his work and reliable in his timely communication. Btw, prices were very competitive. I even ended up with a bigger return compared to the other accountant that prepared the same year's tax's. read more

Last year I went to this CPA in Garden Grove that was recommended to me by a friend...to say the least, he did the job and did it well enough, but I didn't feel very welcome there and wasn't able to ask a lot of questions. My wait time was longer than the time I actually spent with the CPA. So this year, I decided to try someplace different and that was on the way home from work. Did the usual - checked on Yelp, called around and found Oliver/The Taxperts. Spoke to him for a few minutes and found him to be very friendly but also professional. He said he would be able to meet with me after working hours (which is VERY convenient considering I had to take time off work to meet with the guy in Garden Grove). We had made an appointment, but I had to reschedule because I was still waiting for my 1099 form. Oliver was more than accomodating to reschedule. I am so glad I was able to find Oliver and made the decision to go to him. He made me feel very comfortable and didn't speak down to me. Rather, he took the time to explain what he was doing, from start to finish, and showed me what he was doing on the screen (again, completely different from the GG guy). He asked if I wanted a copy, printed me one and submitted everything else for me. I am definitely going to go back to him next year and keep him in mind if I have need for other tax/financial advice. Oliver was a bit younger than I had expected (but then again, I picture all CPAs to be in their 50's) but he was very professional and definitely knew what he was doing. He also made sure that I knew what was going on and if there were other forms I might have forgotten to bring. Overall my impression and experience with Oliver is that he is very thorough, professional, friendly and easy to talk to and most importantly - doesn't charge you an arm and a leg. He was never able to give me strategic advice and in fact cost me a lot of money in taxes one year even though I asked him about options before making decisions. Oliver is very approachable and knowledgeable in his field. He helped us get through what I considered a "difficult" tax return, with the greatest of ease. He broke into bite-size pieces for us and walked us through our entire return, explaining to us how it all worked. Some people don't want to spend money on having a professional do their taxes. However, he was able to get $10k back for us, so our $400 tax preparation fee was well worth it (filed 2 returns). Oliver is great, and we will definitely be using him again next year. I do not know of any business more deserving to receive my first five star review than The Taxperts. After getting married and purchasing my first home, I wasn't confident in processing my own taxes. My family accountant isn't close by and I am unable to ask a lot of questions due to my language barrier. I had questions regarding my major life changes and how it will affect my taxes. I also wanted information on adjusting my W4 allowances so that I get more out of my paychecks rather than waiting until the next year for a zero interest tax refund. After shopping around multiple tax accountants, I decided to go with The Taxperts since they were friendly and answered all of my questions over the phone without rushing me unlike the other accountants I called. The accountant I worked with was Oliver who was nothing short of amazing and professional. I was referred to Oliver from a friend of a friend. I usually get my taxes done in the valley. Which is closer to home for me, but my friend told me "Trust me, he's really good, and tries to get as much as he can for your return" I was like, okay, "I give him a shot, but if if he isnt as good as my other CPA, then you owe me gas money" Long story short, my friend was right. Oliver, was very through and explained to me step by step what he was doing with my return. This review is long overdue. My husband and I have had our taxes done by Oliver Kim at Taxperts for the past 3 years now and we think he is absolutely exceptional. For years we paid too much to see an accountant with a big name firm, that kept raising their prices every year. The accountant we saw there has amazing credentials on paper so we kept going to him, but it became clear that he valued his big fish customers more. I could never get a straight answer from him on anything and he could never give us a strategy that would save us from owing quite a lot of money at the end of every year, even though we kept asking for advice so that wouldn't happen. Our first year seeing Oliver with Taxperts, we had an amazing meeting where he clearly laid out everything he was doing on our forms in a way that was the perfect combination of time efficient but also informative. We learned a lot and he answered all of our questions. Our second year, after making the modifications he had recommended, we got a refund instead of owing tons of back taxes (finally). We got enough that he suggested a few more tweaks to get us to the point we wanted to be at. This year again, we have just the right refund to feel like a comfortable cushion. As always, the session was extremely informative. It also ran quickly because we had sent him our documents early so he had everything ready to go when we arrived. He was also able to advise us about changes we can expect for the coming year under the new tax laws. We really can't recommend Oliver highly enough. He is pleasant to work with, organized, a good communicator, and able to advise with your goals in mind. This guy definitely knows his stuff. My wife and I have several rentals as well as full time jobs and investments. Navigating the tax laws in our situation it's exactly simple. I've had the same cpa, who is a family friend, for 10 years. Due to personal reasons, he is not available to do my taxes this year, so I had to find someone. I found the Taxperts from doing some research online and gave them a call. I called and left a message and my call was returned promptly before the end of business day. I spoke to Oliver and scheduled a meeting. I was a bit skeptical about working with a new cpa who might charge an arm and a leg (my cpa, being a family friend, gave me an awesome price) and it's always a hit or miss with a new service. I had a 2nd place in mind to check out to see my options, incase this one was a bust. I met with Oliver at the Taxperts and it turned out to be a great meeting. Compared to some of the other places I found, their prices are good. And I didn't give up a limb LoL. Oliver was very friendly and easy to talk to. He really made me feel welcome and comfortable and I was able to ask a lot of questions. He took the time to answer all of them and explained a lot of things I really didn't understand. I had limited time at this meeting because I had to be at another appointment, so I was assured that we were all set and everything will be ready when I return to sign the forms. I was scheduled to return a couple days later and Oliver reviewed over everything with me once I got there. Then all I needed to do was sign and we were done! This year I thought I'd get a head start and file my taxes early via TurboTax, but in my haste I totally forgot to file a second W-2 from my previous employer for a week of work in early January 2012. I've never filed an amended tax return and I wasn't completely confident in my ability to do this correctly so I jumped online to find a tax consultant close to my workplace. After doing some research and filtering out the consultants which I thought were WAY overpriced, I decided to visit The Taxperts, located in Irvine off of Von Karman (The Atrium Building, which is the same building as Bistango, yum!). I met with my consultant, Oliver, who was able to walk me through the process and, thankfully, took care of everything for me. He was able to answer a few questions I had with my return and explain it in a way I could understand. We went through each item together just to make sure everything was calculated and done correctly. When we were finished they mailed all my tax forms out for me, which is great since I do not have any stamps. Just one less hassle for my already busy workday. Overall I had a great experience and highly recommend this place. Fees are definitely on the lower end compared to what you'd normally find in and around Irvine/Newport Beach/Tustin. After my brief initial call with Oliver, I knew I would be in good hands as I immediately got the sense he was extremely competent and thorough. I made an appointment the following day to file my 2016 Federal and State returns and although the result of my personal tax situation was not ideal, I left knowing exactly why and how I can correct this going forward. Oliver is amazing! He is like a Beautiful Mind meets the Accountant. He nearly saved me $30,000. I had some pretty confusing stocks. My last CPA reported a gain of $69,009.
