My husband and I used this charter for a sunset cruise on our honeymoon. It was very relaxing and beautiful. Captain Sarah was great and very friendly. She explained different things about the water we were in and also answered all of our questions. The cruise usually holds up to 6 people, but we ended up being the only ones on the boat. Even if more people were on the boat is big enough to allow for your own space and still seem somewhat private. Definitely a very nice evening and would highly recommend!! read more

This was an amazing trip! The entire experience was extremely peaceful. The catamaran sailing was smooth, and with only six passengers allowed it felt like you were on your own private tour. We even had a dolphin follow the boat for about 10 minutes swimming on either side. The crew was engaging, funny, and extremely willing to take pictures! Ok such a wonderful experience. The catamaran sail to the mangroves was relaxing and beautiful. But the trip through the mangroves in a kayak was a true experience. We had friends visiting and wanted to go out on a relaxing sunset sail. We looked online for options, read the websites and reviews and selected Morning Star. Their website says it's a 50' sailboat and the captain has been running this charter for 25 years - both of which contributed to us selecting this company. Imagine our surprise and disappointment to show up at the marina where the Morning Star sign is to find a beat up 30' sailboat and we're told "oh, the business was sold a few months ago". I don't know if they also use the 50' sailboat shown in the beautiful pictures on the website, but if they do that was not an option for us. The night gets better. The crew was new to sailing - a very friendly guy, but very inexperienced. I'm guessing he and the captain have never sailed together, considering the captain said he'd only been working there for about a week. He was also a friendly guy, and very apologetic for showing up late. Apparently he had received some message saying the sail was cancelled, so the six of us not only showed up early, but sat at the dock watching the day end wondering what was going on and why we have no captain. It's probably a good thing this was a beat up boat, since it got more beat up when a spring line was left on as the captain motored out of the slip - and we banged into the motor on the boat in the next slip. My husband and I are experienced boaters so it didn't cause any alarm for us and we understand these things happen. But since we had booked a cruise thinking this was a larger and well maintained boat with a very experienced captain, it was disappointing. We managed to enjoy the evening once we got out and made what time we had left before the sun went down. The captain and crew's friendliness helped make the evening, and we didn't take it out on them that what we got was COMPLETELY different from what we bought. A couple days later the charge came through and we were charged the full day rate, not the sunset rate. After several phone calls and messages I finally reached someone who promptly refunded the overcharge. I thought about expressing my overall disappointment, but the person I talked with just worked for the new owner. So I figured I'd share our experience here and let others make an informed decision. Ask questions before you go so you know what boat and what experience you're getting, because you can't rely on their website. read more

We met Captain Rick years ago. He has been sailing in the Key Largo area for years and I remember him telling us he is from the East Coast and did the Cape May area as a boater as well! Many of the other boats in Key Largo are newer and do not know the area as well. They just go to the tourists trap spots. Since we went sadly much of the reef has been destroyed. But Captain Rick will find the unspoiled areas if there are any left. He is the nicest guy ever and has a unique path that other boats do not take. We went out just me and my hubby. Most of our pictures are in storage and some of our favorites. Captain Rick makes sure you don't get sea sick as well. Captain Rick goes to secret spots that other boats don't go to. The Keys are full of tourists and when you go out in most boats the ocean is overly crowded. It's not very much fun. You don't feel like you are seeing nature but stuck with a bunch of drunk tourists. But with Captain Rick he takes you to spots that other boats do not! You can't go wrong with Captain Rick! read more

I've been coming to the keys since I was a child and I've never hired a better charter! We bought a sunset sail on Morning Star with Captain Rick and couldn't have had a better experience! If you want the real deal, with Florida history and an actual sailboat, this is the charter! He's an excellent captain who knows the waters and has an excellent sailboat! He only takes out parties of 6 or less, so it's intimate and awesome. I felt like we were just going out with friends. Captain Rick also doesn't go out on days and take your money when it won't be worth it, (which is more than I can say for my last group snorkeling adventure from a larger company when everyone got seasick). As for snorkeling/diving adventures, Captain Rick will travel out to the farthest reef (5 miles) to get the best experience. Other charters only go to the reefs at the 3 mile mark and these have been trampled by other groups to the point that you don't see anything. Oh, and did I mention that the wind was low on our outing, but he managed to sail anyway. No motors involved. (We saw all the other "sunset sail" charters, packed with people, without their sails up and using their motors!) He knows the reefs. He knows the keys history. He knows life. I can't wait to go back, again for another Sunset sail - or a snorkeling adventure! He's the only charter I'll take now! read more

Very engaging, social and educational about the bay, the keys even as I peppered with with lots of questions about sailing. Couldn't have been a better day out on the high seas. Captain Rick was wonderful, even when I had a sudden panic attack about getting in the water to snorkel (life-long shark phobia) he didn't make me feel dumb or silly at all, offered a few words of encouragement and left me to work through it on my own until I was finally able to get in. Boy, am I glad I did, too. Incredible and clear out at Molasses Reef, just lovely. Perfect day. I highly recommend Morning Star for a snorkeling trip you won't forget. read more

We sailed with Capt Kevin and Skylar and has a great time. Capt Kevin did a wonderful job of teaching our kids about sailing, ocean life and the reef system in the Keys. A relaxing way to spend half a day. Bottled water is available, but I recommend taking a few snacks and other beverages if you want. I have never chosen to write a lengthy review on Yelp before, but our experience with Rick Winters last week was so outstanding, I felt it merited comment. Rick is genuinely concerned about his customers' experience, about the reefs, and about the community of Key Largo. He has been taking visitors to the reefs for 29 years. The reefs are "his neighborhood." He knows the best spots for a particular day and a particular group of people. He takes small groups so you get personal attention and information about the area, the reefs, likely sights for the day and how to best enjoy yourself on the water. His long history in the business speaks for itself. As he will tell you, there have been a lot of charter companies in the area. "They come and they go." Rick is genuinely concerned when he sees groups going out to areas that are not quality or when he sees large party boats where the patrons will get little attention and have a less than enjoyable experience. When we went out, Rick thought long and hard about which reef would provide the best experience under the prevailing conditions and was more excited than we were when he recognized he had picked the best area. I cannot recommend this trip highly enough. If you are serious about snorkeling and seeing the best the area has to offer, sail with Rick. read more
