To say I am extremely upset is an understatement. I just got a call from Alex at morris animal inn to say that unfortunately they are unable to board my dogs over Christmas. What?? I have had these reservations for months! I am traveling from Florida to New Jersey to visit my daughter for Christmas. According to Alex they have decided because of a respiratory virus that MAY be going around that they will not be accepting any out of state clients. From the get go they seemed to be overly concerned that one of my dogs was 16. She is in good health and other than being older has no issues. They even called our vet to make sure she is ok. I am convinced they didn't want to be responsible if something should happen to her while there... How can they expect me to find another place at this late date. I am soo disappointed! read more

Do not leave your dog here. We left our dog here and they said they couldn't evaluate him for group play so we had to play extra for one on one time which is 15 minutes. The dog spent 80% of his time there in a cage/pen. Left us on a waiting list for 11 months and then started a new list. What place takes that long to evaluate??? Horrible and inhumane. read more

We boarded our 4 month old English Bulldog puppy for the first time at MAI and could not be more happy with our decision. It was so hard leaving him for the first time, but the wonderful staff sent us personal text updates every other day about how he was eating, going to the bathroom, and what he was learning in training. When we picked up, the staff member who brought him out said he was an angel and she was so sad to see him go, it made my day as a proud dog mom :) I believe you get what you pay for and although his stay was pricey, it was top of the line and he came back extremely happy, so we are happy! I really wish I had a good experience but I didn't. When you look for a place to board your dog you're putting a family member in the hands of other people and strangers. I usually never board my dog but it was a circumstance that I had no other choice. I found Morris Animal Inn through google search and chose them based on all the good reviews. Though there were bad reviews there were more good ones. My dog was there for 3 nights. It was supposed to be 2 but I was delayed I didn't realized they closed at 4pm. Which makes me wonder if anyone is with the animals at night? Though they did give update and were really pleasant, when I got my dog back something was just off. I asked them multiple times how he was and they just kept saying he was great and happy. Which is odd to me because he's a pretty anxious dog but if he's happy I'm happy. When I first got him home I noticed his bark was so different like he was hoarse from constantly barking. I called them and they said per the notes there wasn't excessive barking. Then he had diarrhea which was expected since he had different food and was stressed. But there was also blood in his stool. Which was terrifying and he was lethargic. I asked them about that they said they didn't notice blood in his stool. I just don't get how a dog can go someone for 3 nights and come back like this? And there be no signs of it during the stay that's what kind of scares me. Unless someone is not taking notes correctly or if they aren't really looking at the dog properly. For almost $500 you would hope your dog is in great care, that's why I didn't mind the price. But to get my dog in this condition have to possibly seek veterinary help which they said can be submitted for a possible reimbursement? It's just crazy to me. I will definitely not be taking my dog back there. It's unfortunate because the place seemed nice and really clean. Very disappointing experience. read more

Morris Animal Inn employee advised on the phone that they cannot guarantee your pet will receive medication even though they charge extra money for that. My cat chews on his tail if under stress so he needs his anxiety medication once a day. I mentioned all of that when i made my reservation. 3 days before my honeymoon trip i received a call stating my cat cannot stay at their facility. They almost ruined my trip. I don't speak dog, so I can't fully express how much my pup loves Morris Animal Inn. As soon as I pull into the driveway to drop him off, he starts barking like crazy to greet his friends. One early morning, I was zoning out and missed the turn. He cried for the entire extra five minutes while I was rerouting. The staff is absolutely incredible. They put a lot of thought into each dog's personality to give them the best care possible. The entire place gives off the best vibes, and it makes me so happy that my dog has such a safe and fun place to be while I'm working. I have been thrilled with everything my dog has done here: daycare, special events, overnight boarding, and grooming. When I pick him up, my dog smiles and pants the whole way home before eating dinner and falling into a deep sleep. It is well worth the money if you're looking for ways to help get your dog's energy out or to give them a safe space for socializing with other dogs (or just people!) This place is very good at cutting dog hair. We've gone several times and our dog only had a bad hair cut once. However, they have serious issues with price transparency. Every time we go, there is a new price for my dog's haircut and we only find out what the new price is after the haircut is done. This seems like an unfair business practice and they should be more transparent about what they are charging and if there are price increases PRIOR to appointments. Buyer beware. read more

This place is much fancier than I would normally use with my dog and in fact I usually take her with me to hotels and would use Petsmart as a daycare when needed. This time was different as the hotel I had to be in was not dog friendly. I explained in great detail how my dog had never boarded overnight and has extreme anxiety, she doesn't like being crated so I didn't know how she would respond. I knew she was a picky eater and it usually takes her 2 or so days to settle in and feel comfortable. I did their text service to check in on her and they told me, "Mattingly is so affectionate and lovable. She is settling in well, she really loves getting eat scratches and snuggling with our staff" which also happened to be exactly what they told the person picking up right before me. I was shocked that she was described as affectionate as even at home she is never kissy and when she has been at daycare she was described as very shy and needs encouraging. So I followed up that I thought she would be nervous and was told, "She is a little shy at first but warms up very quick to our staff members and loves cuddling up with them!". We called the next day and they said they had to add broth to her food to get her to eat and even then she was only picking at it. I was really hoping she would have eaten her food better but I expected that she probably wouldn't but I'm still unsure on how they described her as that has never been her normal way or previous reporting on her behavior of being so affectionate. I get that you never want to tell someone your dog is not loving it but this seems worse to me. Even after all that I was like ok whatever she's doing ok because they would have told me if she wasn't. Nope I dropped her off on Thursday and picked her up on Sunday. Upon me picking her up I was told she rubbed her nose a little, well it was A. a brand new thing she has never done before and B. why was I not told about it?. They literally told me as they brought her to me, which is the size of a dime beat red on her nose. That lack of communication is the last thing for me. I was stressed she was stressed and I relayed that clear. I am shocked and extremely bothered that I was not informed of this before hand. My husband even asked when did this happen and was casually told yesterday. So the same day they first told us she was not eating they couldn't tell us she hurt herself. Not for nothing but a picture speaks a thousand words and I did not anticipate my dog to come home with a wound let alone a wound I knew nothing about and find that unacceptable. read more

I am so grateful I live close enough to send my fur baby here. Our pup, Sage, has been coming here for 6 months and I have NO complaints. They take every single precaution as far as up to date shots, the communication is stellar, and I never worry when Sage is here. He literally knows when we are close and starts going bananas with excitement when we pull into the parking lot. I am confident he loves coming here and looks forward to his weekly visit. I've seen videos and pics of him and the other dogs during their special events....Halloween party (which was a sleepover), fall party, valentines party, and st pattys day. We also took advantage of their wedding concierge service -- which was THE BEST. First they're super professional, showed up on time, in a nice safe animal transport vehicle. The 2 staff members even showed up in tuxedos! When it was time for photos they had squeaky toys at the ready to get her attention while our photographer snapped away. Winter is a pretty shy dog, but she seemed like she had a great time. And their facility is amazing. I almost wish we got married there. I moved back to Morristown and decided to go back to this place I took my dogs when they were much younger. Morris Animal Inn is as nice as ever facility-wise but the service and communication has really gone down and is IMO not up to the quality that the prices demand. It is virtually impossible to get a grooming appointment sooner than a month out and I have had issues with both the end result of the appointment and the level of communication beforehand. I do not know if it is a staffing issue as many other businesses are dealing with but it is a bit tough to swallow, both worse and more inconsistent service and higher prices. read more

Each time we call now, no one answers the phone, and it takes over a day for anyone to get back to us. And when they do they are always booked now. I dont understand. My dog went through their puppy school and graduated into their normal doggy daycare and they worked wonders with him. The training they did with him was very effective and 100% worth it. He's good on the leash, knows the basic commands, and is extremely friendly with other dogs and people. However, it has been impossible to get a boarding reservation here over the past year. Every time I call, no matter how far in advance, there is a waiting list. I recently tried to make a boarding reservation 5 months a head of time and they were already booked. This place is immaculately clean and the workers genuinely like and care for my dog. It is expensive and yes everything is a la carte, but they take care of my dog according to my instructions (or at least as far as I can tell). While my dog doesn't like to leave me at all, she doesn't seem to mind it here so much. My dog is a little anxious, and we've tried group play but she just doesn't like it. Each time, we've tried, they tell me she just sits on the side, which I believe. So we do Adventure Day Care where she gets one-on-one care, tummy rubs, tug of war and gets fed and walked on her schedule (I provide my own, pre-measured food, which she always eats). I have never boarded overnight, because I usually have someone dogsit at my house, but I am working up to getting her used to the place so that I can leave her overnight if I need to. FYI, one of my dogsitters used to work there and she swears they do everything they say they will do. read more

I boarded my two cats here because I wanted to feel good about leaving them for a week and the vet I usually leave them at has relatively small cages. Here they stay in an area where they can climb and it seemed to be a good option and I hoped worth the extra cost which is significant. The staff said that I could call at any time and get a detailed report of how they were doing. The first time I called, they said that they hadn't heard anything but since they had no news that must be a good sign. I called a second time and got the same message. This was hardly the detail they advertised and I didn't get a great feeling about it. When I got back and picked them up, the staff was still not forthcoming with information. You have to pay extra for play time (about $19 per session). I would have liked to know how they did. I hope it doesn't sound like nit-picking, but I would have liked to know something specific, maybe some anecdote about what they did to give me an idea that they were actually cared for. After all, you're leaving pets (your family) not a computer to be fixed. They said I'd get a full report when I picked them up and that report consisted of "They didn't eat the food you left so we added some chicken and they ate better." I wasn't there so I can't say how they were treated, although one of the cats had a red scar on her nose. Not that big a deal except I've never seen anything like that on her before. The place is advertised as a Five star hotel for pets. The staff, however, is definitely not Five star quality. I paid extra money to have piece of mind and know the cats were getting great care. It wasn't worth it and I won't use them again. read more

We took our puppy her for daycare to socialize and it was OK. Just OK. Beware of boarding your dogs here - for the regular nightly charge the dogs just get a few brief walks but other than that are confined to their "private suite (aka caged area)" for the rest of the day. This place charges you extra for any sort of 1:1 or group play, exercise, or socialization. Highly recommend looking other places with more inclusive pricing that focus on your dog having a good time and getting proper exercise, and not just making money for each additional second they spend thinking of your dog. Disappointing that there is little focus on the animals well being and having fun during their stay, more about charging you for add ons. read more

While I loved how my dog looked after being groomed, each time I took him (every other month) for the past 6 months, the prices were different and I received the same services. Within 6 months, there was a $40 difference from my first visit to my last. I had the receptionist review my past bills and was told there have been price increases because of the high demand in services. It didn't make sense to me but will have to find somewhere else to go. We had plans to travel over the Memorial Day weekend, but no place to bring our dog. I knew about Morris Animal Inn, but didn't know anyone personally who had used their services. Of course I had checked out the reviews on Yelp and they seemed to show a thumbs up from most people. I knew it would be costly since they tout themselves as a higher end boarding choice. We also had a bad experience at a different "pet hotel" in East Hanover. The cost didn't matter as long as the care was loving and thorough. I called and scheduled the 5 day stay. The price was steep, but I had to have the a la carte services to be sure my pooch would be happy. Unfortunately, I was unable to tour the facility before I brought my dog in. I did however ask for a quick look and I was taken upstairs and quickly given some visual evidence that I had made the right choice. After, when I was getting back into my car I stopped a woman who had just picked up her happy dog. I asked for her opinion and she said she brings her dog there every week to play and have fun. I was happy to have a face to face conversation with a real person who gave a glowing recommendation. Her dog was very happy which made me feel better. When we went to pick up our dog, she came out excited and happy to see us. She was in great spirits and the person who brought her out gave us a great report of her stay.
