I am so sad to see this once magical farm become a basic, run of the mill, commercial establishment. For more than 20 yrs I shopped there, always able to find unique plants and gifts. This place used to be incredible, especially the greenhouses towers the front. A reliable place to get super creative, beautiful plants and arrangements. I used to live waking through it to see the creativity and beauty they put forth. Well I guess they lost the People that were the brains behind that. It's turned into a horrendously decorated version of wal-Mart. What a shame. If I wanted cheap, China made "decorations", I would go there. The end an era. How sad..... #avoid read more

I rarely write reviews for businesses, but I felt I needed to based on my one-year experience with Morris Country Farms. In April I purchased six arborvitae tree's, totally $385. We were told to water them twice a week, which I did. Less than a year later the trees are dead. I called to ask them about a warranty, or a way for them to help out, as I spent hundreds of dollars. The employee told me, "no, I am sorry we cannot help you out. Plants die with 4 feet of snow." He then said that I could 'come in with a receipt and photos of the trees and they can see what they can do", and I asked "what would be my options if I had a receipt and photos since you told me there are no warranties? He could not answer this, so I am declining the 1 hour car ride to visit them again. There are other nurseries out there with better products and much better customer services. Yes, plants die, but not within one year with proper care. And when they do, a company should help out the customer. read more

I am not a plant guy. Never have been. But I'm starting a great new phase of life and cleaning up my bachelor pad for the first time in eons and it's 2.24.18 and near Spring. So upon a recommendation from the President of Hall's Garden Center & Florist in Berkeley Heights (also very helpful!), I made the jaunt to MCF. I don't know the name of the clerk that patiently and happily helped me but she lavished time and attention on me and had an encyclopedic knowledge. For most non-plant aficionado's, buying plants isn't all that fun. In fact, I dreaded it. But I felt I wanted to bring some life into my place and so resigned myself. But spending the time I did with her as she showed me the plants I needed (the "kill-proof, hardy" type) was simply, fun, lighthearted and productive. I felt I got what I wanted - even though I walked in not knowing what I wanted. She didn't hard sell any plants on me and helped me focus on what I needed: hard to kill plants that are going to do time with a guy that will forget to water them and probably won't even put them in the right place. I recall that double album by Stevie Wonder called "the Secret Life of Plants" and I'm quite sure as each plant was plucked from its place on the shelf, it let out a plant-scream: "not that guy! He kills everything he ever buys!" Nothing she did in the 20 minutes or so she spent on me was dismissive and not once did I get the impression she wanted to be somewhere else. Despite others around her making it obvious they were closing soon, she never once broke focus and never once gave me any inkling that my concerns about getting watering and light requirements right for each of the plants and scribble-typing it into my phone as fast as I could were not important. I appreciated that and having purchased well over $100 worth of plants (well, that's a big deal for me), I was really happy to have the attention. I was sent over there by Berkeley Heights because they were threadbare on selection - it's just a cold, bad time of year so few places have stock. But MCF? Sweet Fancy Moses as an old friend might cry! Again, I'm not a plant guy but I kid you not that the last time I saw so many rows and rows and just uncountable variety of flora was at the DuPont Estate down in Brandywine area near Philly. That is essentially a giant hot house warren museum and well beyond this - but the point is: the variety was staggering today. From cacti to orchids, to bonzi trees, to ivy to you name it and it went on and on and on. I hope, on this February night, as I change so very many things about myself in another evolutionary phase of this wonderful life, that this trip to the Farm starts a new later-in-life love for plants that fosters patience, care, responsibility and an organic link to the real world you can't get from a phone. So thank you to my AMAZING helpful clerk and even the guy that was standing at the gate glowering at me as I backed out of the parking lot with a car full of plants at 4:03 p.m.! I've been here several times in search of indoor houseplants and they always have a great selection. The prices are fair and the employees I've encountered are always helpful and friendly. I do believe that some of the plants in the "room" down the ramp of the main greenhouse are a little less tended to and are squished together due to lack of space. The place is huge but due to the sheer number of plants space is still somewhat limited. I'll keep coming to this place because they always have more interesting plants than the regular big box stores and prices aren't bad either. read more

So I'm an indoor plant hoarder. Not ashamed. It's just the case. Been roaming north to central New Jersey and metropolitan New York for ages for uncommon and occasionally unusual houseplants for a long time now. Morris County Farms is my top choice. The selection is very big. Prices are fair---better than internet plant mail prices. The greenhouses (yes, there are two) are an education in light and humidity control. Well worth the trip. read more

Ive only ever come here for tropical/exotic and house plants. The selection is fantastic in that regard. They have all different varieties of plants, and the selection is different every time I visit. A few months ago they had a fresh shipment of carnivorous plants that I was drooling over, and they always seem to be stocked with the current "trendy" plants like pothos, snake plants, fiddle leaf fig, monsteras and everything in between. As far as the employees go, I usually get a quick hello when I walk in the door, and not much else, but thats good enough for me. I just want to wander their two huge green houses and take it all in. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but they also stock varieties that Ive never seen at big box stores. Im not opposed to paying a premium for a plant that I can inspect before purchase, as opposed to buying online, where you never know what your going to end up with or if the plant will survive shipping. The only reason I docked one star on this review is because *every* time I go there, I spot a least a few trays of various plants around their green houses that have obvious pest damage. Whether it is visible mealy bugs, tell-tale spider mite webs or a bunch of fungus gnats buzzing around. I always, always quarantine new plants (from anywhere, not just here) and treat any issues before exposing the rest of my collection to a newbie. I haven't had any issues yet, but for someone who didn't know what to look for, introducing an infected plant to the household could cause an infestation in other plants in no time. Considering the size of this place though, I don't think its totally outlandish for a few problem plants to slip through the cracks, but it is also a consistent issue every time I visit. I came here because i like to support small, local businesses when i can, but it was lackluster customer service to put it mildly. First person i saw did not want to talk to me about what I needed for my garden and directed me out pack were there "are plenty of men who can help." True - there were 6 guys, but not one asked me if i needed any assistance. An older couple was trying to ask one guy for guidance, and he was responding begrudgingly. The selection seemed good, but with no one to discuss what may work best in my new garden, I was too overwhelmed and gave up. read more

Great place to come get awesome plants. All the potted perennials that I have planted the next year have doubled in size. So you getting high quality plants from here. A little more on the pricey side, but if you know a landscaper and can borrow their card do so to save some money. All the yard guys and gals are very helpful to make sure you get what you want. read more

LOVE this place but didn't like seeing one particular staff member with their nose hanging out of their mask.

This used to be a great destination for interesting, uncommon plants but not anymore. Just the same things you find at any ordinary nursery. Tons from Monrovia, but again, the ordinary, common plants you can find at Home Depot. Clearly, they no longer employ the same buyers they used to. Very disappointing. read more

Under normal circumstances I would rate this business higher, however these are not normal times. Workers and customers were wearing masks but the following issues bothered me to the point of feeling very uncomfortable being there: - overcrowded parking lot. Seemed to be no limit of how many customers were allowed in at at given time. -no signs indicating the contents of individual tents/hot houses. This would certainly cutout unnecessary wandering around. I did see a blackboard outside of one building that listed items for sale within it. It would be very helpful and make for a quicker shopping experience if others signs were available to indicate where herbs, vegetables, etc were. - I noticed plexiglass by several registers but also saw at least one without. At that register there was no distancing between customer and worker. -no markings seen to in-force safe distancing while waiting in line. I realize this is a unique and new situation but I would not feel comfortable going back here in the near future unless they make changes. read more

My annual visit kicks off my planting frenzy in May. Wide variety of plants and shrubs at a good price compared to so many other nurseries. Get there early in the morning. Went today and lots of stuff was sold out, geraniums and hanging ivy geraniums. Great stop with very helpful and friendly staff!! read more

Good selection, especially of fruit trees, shrubs and flowering trees. There were all on the reasonably priced side. However the perennials are all very pricey in comparison to other places. 10% discount if you ask for their club card. I didn't get much help from the guys like I do other places, but the lady at the front check out area was very helpful. read more

Good quality of plants - always has been. Lovely selection and very helpful staff. But I was totally turned off by this place today. I had a bag of $5 pinecones in my hand and asked the gentleman in one of the buildings if it would be ok if I took them outside while I looked at garland. He said sure, no problem. I ended up going in the 2nd building to look at more items. I still had the pinecones in hand. Went back outside to grab the garland I wanted and the woman at the counter in the 2nd building asked me to leave the pinecones inside while I looked at the garland outside. I said sure. If that had been the end of the discussion, no problem. But she proceeded to say "we are closing in 5 minutes and I don't want anything walking out of here". HA! Yes, I'm trying to steal your $5 pinecones. Totally busted, you caught me. I spend tons of money here every year, and this makes me want to go literally anywhere else for my plants. The words "I don't want anything walking out of here" should never be said to a customer. Unbelievable. read more
