I take paintings pretty much for face value, rarely reading accompanying plaques. Not so with photography. ICP's current exhibit features Edward Burtynsky and Sheida Soleimani. Both very different, both fascinating with subjects worth reading about as you take in their photographs. Gallery space is impressive, located on the second and third floors. There's a coffee shop and gift store -- primarily books -- on the ground level. Admission is $18 for adults, with discounted rates for seniors and military. If you obtain tickets through NYC Culture Pass, there's no charge. You may see two addresses, one on Essex Street, the other 84 Ludlow. The gallery is on Ludlow, between Delancey and Broome.

But if you know the right sources (like the newsletters I get), you can be in the know concerning the best and most interesting shows. This weekend, in addition to PPOW (reviewed separately), I visited Perrotin to see the otherworldly art of Daniel Arsham. Arsham combines old and new, Greek figures with robotic innards. Beautiful Greek sculptures with complex architectural cities carved inside of them. You have to see it to understand it. So creative, the way it connects architecture, thought, memory, and our mental connections to places. Great gallery to add to your list.

A Spring Palette In…read moremid April, shortly before Easter, Carolyn at the dining room of The National Arts Club led me to the familiar corner next to a row of early American paintings. With a warm smile, she asked, "You like the table with light?" Yes, the well lit table between the image of a young lady and that of a pastural landscape was a fine choice for the evening. While absorbed by the bubbles rising in the narrow wine glass, I noticed in the distance the slender manager Vincent. He brought with him two freshly prepared dishes. The young manager, originally from Paris, had a surprise for me, for he turned the white canvas of my table into a spring palette of jovial colors. In front of me, the poached halibut was transformed by three delicate zucchini blossoms. The blonde ensemble over the white fish sat on a bed of spinach cornered by sliced red beets. On my right side, there was the plate of emerald broccolini. Vincent credited the new design to chef Alex. Looking at the perfect creation, I asked, "How can I destroy it?" Vincent said, "You have to." The taste of the evolving sculpture was as perfect as its image, for the fish was tender and fresh, never over cooked or seasoned. Carolyn said, "See you soon." Indeed, I will return to greet the new palette.

I was trilled because I love Soap Operas. This event was an hour, but went a little over and still had time for Q&A which I like, but didn't know it was going to take place. At the end of event you could purchase the book and it was also a book signing by the authors which I didn't participate in. Whom ever design the bathroom needs to take a bow because I couldn't stop gushing over it. The only problem I have with the bathroom is no toilet seat covers installed inside. The bathroom was spotless and they have a little closet within the bathroom so, if there is a lack of supplies an employee can get it right away. The staff here was great very helpful and super nice from Male Host, to the Coat Checker which I don't know why the ad kept saying limited space so there might not be enough room so don't bring big bags, that room was spacious to me because I even seen a little closet for "Lost And Found". I was a Coat Checker myself so this great to see. Now, the reason why I gave it four stars instead of five because I seen a mouse and discreetly told an employee and she said to me that I'm so sorry. I was shocked because I thought she was going to say "I'll tell someone right away". She showed so much empathy towards the situation, you come to an event not to see another show as well. I use to work in live events so, these things happen. They had three bathrooms Unisex, Men and Women if anyone needs to know . Free event, Free tip!

The museum has very clear signage available to direct you to what you want to see. They also had staff all around who were happy to help with any questions we had on locating a specific area or piece of art. The variety of art available to view was astounding. I visited with a short amount of time to browse, so I had to move at a fast pace but you could easily spend hours here. They have escalators to take you up each floor. They also have a cafe inside with a gorgeous view, gift shops, on multiple levels and a seating area with lots of charging stations. They have plenty of bathrooms and they're well maintained. We were lucky to have nice weather and were able to enjoy the outside garden area. It provided quite a unique and pretty view of the city. A one of a kind 5 star museum. How special it was to see Starry Night in person.

Very cute little spot, and a fun way to while away the time when you're in the area. Entry is like…read more$15 for adults, so a skosh less than you'd pay at a bigger museum, but just a bit more than I'd personally pay for the size of this place. If you have like a senior or kid's discount, or a student (?) discount, it would be worth it though. Museum is 2 floors, and fully jam packed with stuff to look at. Every room you go into has either posters from various eras, and/or explanations of the context for those posters, so you're not just appreciating the art in a vacuum. What I liked is that even on a Saturday afternoon, the place was relatively quiet and empty, so we were able to wander around and look at all the cool stuff mostly undisturbed. Bathrooms are spotlessly clean. Cafe is cute and has lots of little chairs to sit on and take a load off before you go exploring further. As of right now, they have a retrospective on black cinema, from the silent films to the black and white films to the technicolor films. There are posters for minstrel shows, posters for "All colored" (AKA, all black and brown people in the cast, so that unwitting racists don't wander in there and clutch their pearls over seeing brown and black folks not playing the parts of servants) casts, and even a couple of displays of paraphernalia from the era, such as blackface pancake makeup/greasepaint used on stage and film. The entrance to the space has these posters from the Czechoslovakia tourism board to come visit their country at the dawning of their founding. These were gorgeous posters, some of which mentioned the 60 2/3 % discount off the return journey ticket. I have no clue what the significance of that amount is. They were facing the gift shop, so while that person or persons you came with go look at tchotchkes , bric-a-brac, and curios long past when they should realize that they can buy most of the stuff online and not have to lug it around the city, you have some more stuff to look at. Mind you, the prints, postcards, and other reproductions of the posters are not something you can easily buy online. That's worth the trip to the gift shop if you like that sort of thing as decoration. The prints are on good quality paper, and the colors are crisp and well laid down. They're absolutely beautiful. At $1.50 per post card, you're paying a bit of money, but these are really beautiful and worthy of display. In the basement level, there's a large exhibition of war propaganda posters encouraging folks to donate books to the boys overseas (or "over there" as they called it repeatedly). Several soldiers would read in their spare time when they had long bouts of hurry up and wait. This was especially true of the navy people. They'd have long stretches of quiet where they'd read to pass the time. Again, the breadth and variety of the posters (some even from German sources, who were also asking the same) was impressive. Then there was the special exhibit of the AIDS epidemic posters from the early 1990s. If you'd not lived through that era, where the fear was all over the place, and the news had several stories of folks dying of AIDS left and right, having that curated collection of posters and adverts was an important reminder of where we were just 30 years ago. In the 1990s, you'd see news stories of random people dying of AIDS. One girl caught it from her dentist, and was all over the news (Kimberly Bengalis). Others caught it from parents. It ran rampant all over the world, and struck down people from all walks of life, regardless of race or sexuality. Watching the posters that were plastered up on the NYC walls during the epidemic, calling to question the inaction of people in power, asking for folks to contribute money, and several pleas to practice safer sex was a chilling reminder of what HIV/AIDS was for many many years. This was a well curated collection, and I'm glad I got a chance to see it. I'd say that the time I spent in the museum was well worth it.

They opened in 2019, hosting a range of poignant exhibits, the current being no exception: ** Posters from Black American Stage & Screen ** New York's Fight Against Aids Posters represent signs of the time, sometimes with language that makes you cringe. The artwork is usually beautiful and always eye-catching, necessary to relay the reason the poster was commissioned. In addition to featured exhibits you'll see nostalgic posters that make you say "I remember that!" For me, it was rock-&-roll/concert art from the 60s and 70s. Located on 23rd Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, there are a number of subway and bus stops a short walk away. Free admission on Fridays.
