Great seafood items albeit limited. The local crab claws are great and their prawns. The deconstructed cheesecake desert was over the moon.

Nine of us chose Murphy Black's for dinner last night. It was a fabulous experience! It would be…read morehard to start with what was better...the food or the service. Both were extraordinary! The owner was our host and raconteur during the evening, helping us pick dishes to fit each of s to telling local stories. His wife and Co owner is the chef. The lamb casserole for me was a surprise presentation and was delicious. My wife had the black sole and was delighted. We also shared the crab tartlet. All was wonderful. Others had a seafood stew, steaks and maybe the highlight was the cannelloni. If you are in the neighborhood or playing golf at Doonbeg, I strongly recommend you go here! U

The owner of Murphy Blacks is happy to tell you that this is the best restaurant in Kilkee, and…read morehe'd be right. I sampled 4 other restaurants, and between my explorations and those of my numerous traveling companions on this trip, we'd concur. The focus is on seafood, but they have a variety of other selections, as well. The food is very local and very fresh. My clear favorite was the mussels, the appetizer portion of which is enough for a meal. I'd also recommend the goat cheese and seafood sampler (which was a collection of seafood salads and smoked fish). The lamb and grilled fish are recommended for entrees--though be warned that Ireland overcooks meat in general for the American palate, so discuss how well you want your lamb and beef done with your server. The lamb casserole (sans noodles, hooray) was exquisite as well. A number of the dishes, like the Hake Au Gratin was a little rich for my palate, but popular at our table. A broad selection of desserts and a wine list with enough options of excellent quality round out the meal. (Go for a soft Albarino or crisp Sancerre to complement your seafood). Also, before 6:30pm they have an "early bird" menu, a prix fixe deal. I'm a fan of the food, but I think the service pushed this place a little bit higher for me. Very personal and personable servers, with one owner interacting with customers and the other upstairs in the kitchen. I was fairly stuffed and couldn't finish my entree and they were concerned and made sure I was happy with my meal. Don't worry, I was. All 3 of them in the week I was in Kilkee.

This was my FAVORITE meal in Galway!…read more It was my first time in Ireland - was visiting for business trip and we stayed in Galway for a few days and got to try several restaurants in the area. This was my favorite restaurant because of the AMAZING seafood. The raw oysters were super fresh and it was fun getting to see the manager show us how to shuck oysters (he used to compete in oyster shucking contest and was ranked pretty high!). The steamed mussels and crab claws were also delicious. Ending the meal with cheesecake was great! The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere that makes you feel like you are visiting a friend's home for a nice meal. Highly recommend checking out this restaurant if you are in the area and are looking for amazing seafood!

People after us were directed to the bar for open seating. The seafood chowder was rich and filling. Mixed oyster plate came with three Gigas and three natives (5 years to grow) but we couldn't agree on which was the best. Moran's featured half a dozen different cold platters and we ordered the smoked salmon which consisted of plate sized slices topped with a salad and a scoop of crab. The Marie rose dressing was delicious and made this salad one of our favorites of this trip. Lastly their Irish soda bread was the best we've eaten and wished we could've gotten a loaf to take with us. The good service, great food and eclectic ambiance made for a nice Easter Sunday meal.
