Morro Bay, so get the picture, it's Labor Day weekend, there are kayakers, paddle board, surfers, motorboats, rowboats, seals, cormorants, seagulls, pelicans, otters, sunbathers, picnickers, bicyclist, trolley riders, cars, trucks, campers, scooters, motorcycles, baby strollers, joggers, fisherman, and quite a few other things I've left out. What a wonderful find on our road trip up the coast. Beautiful little town for a stopover with really lovely people. I highly recommend the Pacific Shores Inn as a really convenient, clean and friendly place to stay for a very reasonable price. It was the perfect landing place to explore San Luis Obispo, Hearst Castle and Paso Robles. We hiked the estuary trails and enjoyed the view of Morro Rock. Nice not crowded beach ( came in mid winter). Hundreds of unbroken sand dollars. Awesome sand. Found beautiful rocks and broken shell pieces. Good view of Morro Rock. Seagulls are there all the time. Very easy access. No charge. Further up is a area to camp. Bathrooms are scattered along. Good for a nice weekend getaway or even for a night. Nice inexpensive hotels and motels are close to the beach as well as simple access to the rock. Definitely would come back. Large clean beach. Great place. read more

Morro bay is picturesque but it has some major flaws. The first problem is the beach. My wife and I were chased off the sand by sand flies. There were so many of them that we couldn't sit and relax so we headed to the beach in cayocus. The next huge problem was the service throughout the city. For being a place that needs tourist they aren't very friendly. Lastly, if you are looking to get a good meal you've come to the wrong place. The food in this town is disastrous!!! read more

I went here yesterday for New Years and I loved it real chill and layed back. I went Kayaking always love to Kayak! The water isn't really deep maybe 5 feet if that? the whole bay is pretty short in depth wise not that deep at all and some parts are very very shallow even. I think its great for kids being the hight of it. They rent Kayaks there too if you don't own one. Theirs a bay walk area with resturants and an area with a park for kids. It has a rock that part of what the locals call "seven sisters" i have no idea why lol...really funny. I had a great time I loved it!!! I believe you will too! read more

The first time we visited we loved it ... Entered the town from the south, camped at the state beach and ate on the waterfront at the Great American Fish Company. However this time wasn't as enjoyable. Entering from the north gave us a different perspective - not nearly as impressive. Total tourist town: crowded, and our lunch was less than desirable. You know, I have actually been coming to Morro Bay for most my life. Camped here, honeymooned here. Brought my children here. I have noticed on my last few visits I have noticed how much the Embarcadero has really deteriorated. Stay away unless you have a specific destination. There are some (very few) interesting shops, some good food (but not universal), and fishing of course. It is a beautiful place but the Embarcadero is trashy and difficult to walk along (the walkway along the ocean is closed to pedestrians in many places, sidewalks are broken, traffic makes a stroll unpleasant. Stay up in the town center unless you have a specific destination in mind--not a place to hang out and enjoy the "place" beautiful as it is. Many other areas in Morro Bay that you will enjoy more than the Embarcadero read more

I love this place! Ever since I was a child I've been coming here with my family! My grandparents used to bring me here during the summer and we'd stay at the Embarcadero Inn. Since I've moved to SLO my husband and I now get up to Morro Bay at least once a month to enjoy the beautiful scenery and visit the adorable sea otters. We've frequented several restaurants and coffee joints in the area and haven't been disappointed with any of them. It's just a nice place to take a walk and enjoy nature but also get some good eats! read more

A must visit place if you are driving by. It is a nice walk, there a boat rides and kayak rentals. Very Inexpensive compared to other costal places near LA. Spend an afternoon, evening or entire day. Has a lof of stuff to do. read more

It's been two years since I have been here and not a week goes by that I don't think of Morro Bay, I've even looked up jobs on CL. This place although it can be chili it's as cozy as a big down blanket. I love everything about it...the weather, the ambiance, the shops, EVERYTHING! The thing I miss the most is when the fog rolls in and you can hear the dinging of the bell in the evening. If you are camping at the State Park remember you get into the museum for free. read more

Really cool beach town. We stopped by here on a road trip. There is a great selection of restaurants and shop. For dinner we bought some take out and ate it on a boat we rented. The boat was a fair price. The weather was great. We rented the boat for one hour and the sun was setting during our time out there. We also saw some wild seals and otters. Avoid the crowds, commercialism and parking problems of Avila Beach and Pismo Beach and enjoy the slower pace, quaint and quirky businesses and natural beauty of Morro Bay. The old Theater in town (showing first-run movies) is family owned and beautifully restored. The natural history museum is great for all ages. Kayak, canoe and stand-up paddle board the bay and explore the sand spit. The beach is Huge, Beautiful and uncrowded. Check out the Garden Gallery on the Embarcadero, the Bayside Cafe, Dockside Too, Dorn's, Sun and Buns pastries etc., just to mention a few. There are really too many favorites to mention them all. With a little research and planning, Morro Bay is a great place to explore and a perfect home base to visit Cambria, Paso Robles wine country, elephant seal vista, and Hearst Castle etc. from. Those who know me know that I love Morro Bay. Its the best place to visit on the Central Coast. The food is great as well as the weather. Its a small town so it does get crowded quickly. The water is great and there is plenty of things to do ranging from giant Chess to the waves to the parks and skating/biking trail. Always beautiful, great festivals, friendly people, even interesting diving! If you love seafood, they have it all. BBQ, check. Italian, yep. Breakfast, some of the best. Place is amazing. Check out Morro Rock, take a boat ride on the bay. Kayak, SUP, surf, scuba, whale watch, shop, an arcade, an aquarium. There is something for everyone. You just can't go wrong. read more
