When one of the major national banks (not to name names, but it starts with a Ch and ends with an…read morease) responded to our report of fraud on our account by freezing our accounts (appropriately) and proceeding to hold onto our remaining funds for over 3 months and refusing to release them until we filed a CFPB complaint (!!!), we decided that we'd put our money with a local credit union so if issues happen, we can talk with someone face-to-face instead of being referred to some disjointed international call center. We picked Desert Financial Credit Union and so far have been extremely happy with the service. Perks we've seen so far: 1) Savings certificates (CDs) with intro rates of 5%, competing with online-only banks and much better than those offered by most national banks 2) Trust establishment services (shout out to Deivy, who is a true joy to meet with) for a much better price than that offered by lawyers in the area (we're talking in the realm of $1500 instead of $6000) 3) Some points-based system where you get some cash back at the end of the year that already has me gamifying our finances to make sure we max out the potential benefits Only negatives so far seem to be a lower ATM daily allowance and some limitations on monthly transfers out of their checking account to external banks. For many people, though, these issues won't come into play. Very happy with our decision to open an account.

If already didn't have a bank I would move. No joke. My experience for notary services was…read moreunbelievable. I popped in the other day per recommendation of a neighbor. I had heard notary services were available to non-members. (The nearest location of my bank is aaaaallll the way in Peoria. 17 miles away. So, no.) When I opened the doors I initially thought I was in the wrong place. It felt like an architect design studio. But no, the smiling receptionist assured me I was, indeed, in a bank. She also confirmed notary services were available and waved me over to the teller area. I still had a feeling of disbelief that I was in a bank when I walked over. A) Everyone seemed to be having an incredibly good time. (It was the middle of the day and I felt like it was happy hour.) B) I was greeted like the second coming of a VIP. (Mean while I was slumming it in a pair of shorts.) C) The interior of this place only got better. (Just you wait.) D) Everyone that works there is movie star beautiful. (Not that this is relevant to customer service. JUST A FACT.) I was directed to sit in the couch area to wait for the notary. I sadly only had a few minutes to enjoy the plush couch that swallowed me with love, the fire place and the high ceilings. I snapped a few photos but really did not do justice to capture the beauty of the space. Stunning. If I could live in the space, well, yes, that would be nice. VERY NICE. The notary. Hoh my. He's possibly the nicest person. Ever. It's very difficult to write words to describe a customer experience that goes above and beyond...anything. I don't even have the papers that were notarized (is that even a word?) to pull up his name. But I could share the stories we traded. (But I won't - they're mine! :) I didn't want to leave. Him. And then I was a bit stunned that the notary service was free of charge. WHAAT? Yeah. That. [Head Shake] Unreal. Awesomeness.

I called ahead to confirm I could get Euros as a non-customer. I was told yes. I drove 30 minutes each way, only to be told no at the desk. I will simply get my Euros at the airport. There is no reason to follow up with me; the damage is done. I am sharing this so you realize that an hour of my time was wasted due to a lack of basic professional coordination within your branch. What could have been an easy 'yes'--or even a pitch to open a new account--turned into a permanent negative impression. I will not be doing business with MidFirst, and I'll be making sure my network is aware of why.

Absolutely the most frustrating experience I have ever had with a service-based company. After…read moreworking with the company to get information on what they do and what services they provide, the first salesman had lied to me and told me that they were "contracted by the VA" to do the work they were doing. After dealing with this conundrum, I looked them up on LinkedIn. You would think their posts would be about helping veterans if that is what they trully cared about, but no. All of their posts are glazing their salesmen and celebrating their "top producers". Feel free to see for yourself: https://www.linkedin.com/company/mvpfunding After denying his future calls due to the dishonestly, that salesman's manager called to admit the lie and offered to work with me personally. I told him I wasn't interested at that exact moment, and was still badgered with calls. They would call during times I was not available, and when respectfully telling him that, he still pushed over the phone and would ignore my protest and roll into an unsolicited sales pitch under the guide of "helping me". I finally had to get stern and tell them they will be contacted when I am ready. Weeks later, I get ANOTHER call with the same tactics. They called during a busy time at work, and I mentioned I had no time to talk. The salesman pushed, demanded I set up a time with them to talk and went into a spiel about them being so eager to "help me" understand my benefits. I had to get extremely stern again and tell him I fully understand, and I will not be forced into their demands and would call them if I MYSELF decided to. The salesman got rude, told me I didn't have to "waste my words" and cut the call. The worst bout of children masquerading as salesmen I have ever had to deal with. I never write reviews, but after my experience, I had to. These guys see you (the veteran) as nothing more than a sale. A dollar sign. Nothing more.
