Well, it turned out that I was completely wrong - this station is absolutely massive, much, much bigger than I have every experienced (in fact it is the biggest station in England). Yeah, so it turned out that I had absolutely no idea where to meet him (though we ended up meeting up anyway). Yeah, this station is nothing short of massive, and it simply took me ages just to locate the tube station so I could get back to my hotel. To a guy from Australia the size of this station is mindboggling.

I thought Bank was the worst, but Waterloo definitely gives it a run for its money. It's a very…read morebusy station, possibly the busiest, with Bakerloo, Northern, Jubilee and Waterloo & City lines meeting here underground, as well as being the terminus for South West Trains. Getting from one to the other involves lots and lots of walking and the signage could use a little improvement. If you do have to connect here, I advice you pack some patience. Lots of it. And maybe a compass. Note: The Bakerloo platform is curved. The carriages are straight. This means there's a gap of as much as six or eight inches between the train and the platform. Mind the gap.

Due to a lift issue at Harrow and Wealdstone Station, I had to take a half an hour detour out of my…read morejourney to continue on my Southern Railway train to Harrow Station, only to end up waiting for another train to take me back to Wembley Central, which goes on the opposite platform with a working lift, this trip to the station because of this was an unwanted one. Harrow and Wealdstone Station is a train station in the Harrow area of London, and for ticketing it is classed as region 5. This is quite an old station, to the point where it was made a Grade II Listed building in 1990. The worst ever British railway crash in 1952, which killed 112 people also sadly occurred here at this station. The station is managed by London Underground but has both Underground and Overground trains. As mentioned this station is pretty old, and it has nothing too special about it, it doesn't have a lot of shops or coffee-shops in the station. Services from here go into the likes of Milton Keynes, Wembley Central and London Euston, with the London Euston being an Overground or London Midland service, as I recall this calls at Wembley Central, so if you're going to watch a football match at Wembley this station isn't too far away for you in terms of getting a train into Wembley. As mentioned, a decent yet not fantastic overall level of more local train connections run from here to the likes of Watford, Milton Keynes, Wembley and London, and this station isn't terrible but overall as it lacks any special feature, other than being a Grade II listed building, I sadly feel Harrow and Wealdstone Station deserves a two-star rating, which even then is a little generous.

Very quick to get in / out of the station - just mind where you entered and where you exit. Used the Oyster card and found it very easy to tap in / out. The staff working there are very friendly and will help you out if get confused. Just remember they have 4 platforms and the above ground trains help you see that. Found their bathroom & snack shop very useful for the 35 minute trip into London!

Okay, this is probably the station you get off at to get to centre-court because, well, it is a…read moremajor interchange station, and there does seem to be a major shopping precinct here as well. Even a few pubs, but then again there are lots of pubs in England. Oh, you can like catch the tram here as well, which I think is also pretty good. Yeah, as a station it's pretty good, and certainly places you into the centre of the action - well, as long as it isn't the Tennis you're looking for.

It is also the terminus of the Wimbledon branch of the District Line of TfL, and of the Tramlink to Croydon, and provides an interchange with the Sutton loop of the Thameslink service via Blackfriars. It is used by 19 million passengers a year on the main line, a similar number on the District Line, and over 2 million on Tramlink. The station opened on the Waterloo to Woking Line in 1838, with the other branches owning over the subsequent 40 years, although the line towards Sutton opened as late as 1929. In 1997 the line to West Croydon was closed for conversion into the Tramlink, reopening in 2000. In 1881 the station was relocated from its original site on the opposite side of the bridge. The station was rebuilt in the Art Deco style in the 1920s. The station has 11 platforms: 1-4 for the District Line terminus, which has its own concourse on the north side of the station (where the toilets are located); 5-8 on the South West main line; 9 for Thameslink services and 10a and 10b for Tramlink. Platforms 6 and 7 are on the fast lines and only used occasionally. All stopping suburban services from Waterloo stop here. Lifts provide step free access to all platforms. The ticket office and concourse are located on the north side of the station adjacent to the staircase to the District Line. There are shop units along the bridge above the platforms selling food, and future shop units on the District Line concourse. There is an exit on the south side of the station next to the entrance to the Centre Court shopping centre.

Richmond station serves as a terminus for zone 4 district line services and also as a stop for many national rail services out of Waterloo and into Surrey. You can get to Hammersmith on the district line in around 15 minutes, or into Waterloo in around 16 mins on the main line fast service, of which there are around 2 per hour. This makes Richmond very commutable. The final piece of the puzzle serving North London is the Silverlink service, which, if you can brave the crack addicts can get you all the way to Hampsted in around 40 mins. It feels like the slowest train in the world right now, although TfL are taking over management so perhaps it will improve. There are 7 platforms, 1+2 for main line services, 3+4 for Silverlink, and 5-7 for district line. I would advise skipping the ticket office and machines in the entrance hall and going to the ones on platform level which are much less busy. There is a front entrance onto Richmond High Street, and a handy back entrance onto Church Road which is much more pleasant, but floods everytime it rains. It was recently voted South West Trains 'Station of the Year 2007' in mysterious circumstances. If you're hungry, I would advise popping into Source next door and getting a take out, which you can scoff on the way into London...

Transport for London have just renamed the sliverlink service 'London Overground' and there is new trains on the way in 2008 or 2009. I personally find it to be slow but quite good for getting to Camden, King's Cross etc without going into Zone 1. There is a new Marks and Spencer where the Door shop used to be by the ticket barriers in the entrance hall. I still think Phil is right about going to Source though instead though!

You can't miss the…read morebus or the bus stop, because chances are you'll be following a gaggle of women, tweens and kids. To get to Harry Potter, show them your confirmation or tickets (which must be purchased in advance). If you want a trip back to the train station, pay £2.50 per person for the return ticket. The bus drops you off at the front of the studio, go through the security (or if you need to pick up your ticket, find the pick up window). At the end of the day you return back to the general location to hop back on. When you are back at the Watford Junction, find the right train to take you back to Euston (or wherever you need to go).

Taking the train is a much better option. The station gets busy, as you'd expect. We took an early morning train out of Euston in order to catch the bus and make our 9:45 am check-in for the VIP tour. Getting off the train, you're immediately greeted by signage guiding you to the studio's bus line. And note to all those arriving early - the very first bus leaving Watford Junction is for Studio employees only. There are two benches under a small shelter, which doesn't do much to block the wind on a blustery day. But, they run the buses on a tight schedule, which means you can count on them showing up when they say they're going to be there (schedules are posted inside the shelter for reference). You have to have your confirmation information handy in order to get on the bus and pay £5 (for two people) for the round-trip ticket. The really nice thing is the studio keeps a running track of shuttle departures, which makes it easy to plan your escape from the bustle. Definitely the best option for transport to the studio, if you're not driving on your own and if you're not taking the bus out of London.
