The Morton company is not a company to be trusted, they were contracted for our condominium to repair our roof, (that is what they are suppose to specialize in) . Not only did they not complete the job we hired them for, they did not pay the material company for their supplies which is very unethical and unfair, in turn the material company turned around and came after us for payment. We tried everything in our powers to plea to The Morton Company to finish the job they were hired to do, with not success. We contacted a lawyer to help us get our roof completed, but Mr. John Morton is a professional when it comes to making excuses and telling lies, a few years pasted by and he shows up lying again, he worked for a few days and left again, leaving materials everywhere. Morton Roofing was the "go to" roofer in 2009 when I had my roof installed. Today, 8 years later they honored my warranty and returned to fix a couple of nails that had popped up and replace a shingle that had been pierced by a bullet. John Morton III was extremely responsive. His office staff was courteous and he responded both by email and with a phone call. His repair crew was on the job the next day. Morton roofing is a scam artist. They don't pull permits, and do not stand behind their work. I am in the process of starting a complaint with the department of business and professional regulations, and the city of Fort Lauderdale building department. John Morton claims that he is broke, and can't buy the materials to fix a bad installation still under warranty. He continues to suggest that all the problems are due to his sons ineptitude, his business partners stealing from him, and his health. The fact of the matter is that this is a company that should not be doing business. If you allow him on your property, you are taking a risk. I have had to personally purchase materials for his original job, and Morton's installation failed again. Trying to collect the money that I put out of pocket to suppliers that was supposed to be repaid to me is impossible. All of the roofing suppliers have canceled his accounts and credit lines. If you want to verify Morton's integrity, just call any of your local roofing suppliers, ABC supply, or any other material suppliers. When the department of business and professional regulations finishes with resolving the issues that are being brought against Morton Roofing, they won't have a license any more. Stay away!!!! I hired Morton to re-roof my house only to learn half way through that they SUBCONTRACTED the entire job to another roofing company!!!!!! And here is the kicker---Morton never paid the sub-contractor so I received a lien notice. I learned this is customary practice for him and he still hasn't paid!! What type of roofing contractor hires another roofing contractor to do his work? He couldn't pay the tile supplier and asked me to pay directly. I did and learned that Morton has no credit and owes them money so they won't deliver tile unless it is paid in advance. Then the tile sat on my roof through Hurricane Irma because Morton wouldn't complete the job!!! I had to argue with him for days to properly secure the stacks of tile to the roof so no one got hurt during the hurricane. I demanded proof that Morton paid for the material and he didn't respond. So I am fully expecting a lien for materials. He failed 11 inspections and now the job is red tagged and my roof still isn't finished. Lastly John Morton claimed to be a "veteran" before I hired him which is one of the reasons I agreed to pay a little more than the other estimates I received. When I recently confronted and challenged him on that representation, he stated he meant a "veteran roofer". What a fraud!!! I can't begin to describe how unprofessional this organization is. They were recommended by a neighbor and seemed to have fair pricing. As the job went on things just got worse. The laborers got too lazy to move the roof debris down to the dumpster on my driveway and determined to put an additional dumpster on my front yard without my consent or knowledge. They blew a hole through my yard rupturing an old septic tank. At the end of the job I had held back 10% deposit and wanted the ladders, the debris, roofing materials that were extraneous removed from our lawn, in addition to the hole theyy created being filled. In response, not only did they place a lien on my house but the communication from the owner John Morton was beyond unprofessional, rude and just downright disrespectful. I did not want to give the one star! Stay away fro John Morton. He will promise the moon and back but will not deliver. Brand new roof and 2 leaks in two years!! He took more than a month to come and fix the leak the first time; we are still trying to finish fixing the second leak ... 4 months waiting!!! Please whatever you do...if you are looking to have your roof repaired...DO NOT choose this company. They do NOT honor their warranty....they DO NOT communicate with you at all about impending repairs. They are so unorganized that they DO NOT give you the proper information that you need. The previous owner of our home used this company to repair a portion of our roof. I wished that she had done her research because it has been like HELL dealing with these people. The first owner we spoke to would never communicate back to us and had workers on our roof unauthorized. Then we finally got a different worker who helped us. I called again to have some different repairs done on our roof recently for a 3rd time, when I called the receptionist she told me that we were supposed to transfer the warranty from the previous owner....we had already had this company work on our roof and NO ONE ever told us that. And the receptionist did not even seem to care at all. I should have known how bad they were the 1st 2 times that I was disappointed. The bottom line is this company does not have their stuff together and they will put you through so much, just to try and get your roof repaired. We had a great experience with John. He really knows his field and we honestly believe he does his very best work for each job. He's a very nice man who promptly returned all our calls and texts. Roofs often have set backs and delays (weather, timing, acquiring roof tiles in S. Fla) but these are out of anyone's hands especially John's. Be kind to one another, understand realistic delays and expectations and you'll be as happy as we are with our roof. He went above and beyond on several occasions for us. We even spoke to a third party lady (when waiting on our tiles) and she even said what a great company Morton Roofing is and how much John cares about his clients. We appreciate John and his crew. My father used Morton Roofing for his concrete roof several years ago (and he is not an easy person to please!) and he was exceptionally happy with John. He extremely and highly recommended John and that's why we called him. John's estimate was also very fair and right on point! Stay away from Morton roofing. John Morton comes in as the quintessential salesman, promises you the moon for half price and then hold your house hostage. They start the job and do not finish. We had a very specific contract written up due to previous bad experience with roofers. They contract clearly stipulated the job was to be completed in 5 week and divided into 3 payments. We are now going on week 17 and 1 hurricane with no roof. I kept my end of the deal and made 2 payments up to $13 K. Now Morton roofing is refusing to finish the job until the final payment is made. They are literally holding my home hostage. Final payment as per the contract is not due until the job was complete. I still have no roof on my home. read more

I had Morton do my roof 3 years ago. Seemed to do a nice job in a timely manner. Last month i notice a hole in one of the roofing tiles - no idea how that occurred. We need a new roof and decided to get quotes from 3 contractors. This company was highly rated on Angie's list so we made an appt for a quote. On the day of the appt we received a call their truck broke down and they needed to reschedule for the next day. The next day came and went without anyone showing up. The day after we called and spoke with a supervisor who said their estimator had problems and had not been able to come. We expressed our frustration and requested to speak with the owner. We were assured of a return call before the day ended. Never happened. I called the following day and spoke with a supervisor who apologized and told me their problems with the estimator. I asked about the return call from the owner and was told he received the message but had not been back to the office. Everyone I know has a cellphone with the ability to call people to reschedule appts AND speak with potential customers. If a business can't get their act together to provide an estimate I'd never hire them for a job read more

Read the bad experience by Alex C. I had an excellent experience overall. Alex was correct; they promised a notably optimistic execution. They were late. BUT let me tell you the good stuff. The building has a 11,000 sq. ft. roof. It is pitched (a condominium) The previous roof was ceramic tiles and they looked pretty. But they roof leaked badly in the valleys. Morton replaced my old roof with a new tile job. What a beautiful quality roof!! And the price was super reasonable. Not cheap, but an excellent deal. They used the best materials on the job. I followed them and walked the roof regularly looking for skips, bumps and cracks. The workmanship was outstanding. I have used Morton before years ago on other properties. That went fine on every one. Just routine small roofs. But this building has a gorgeous thirty year roof on it now. The key to longevity in a pitched roof is the care taken to protect the valleys. That was where the existing roof failed. Reason: Poof execution (big wide valley gaps and inadequate materials in the valleys. The Sun light could get down into those valleys and rot out the water barrier on the bottom. It was a twenty old roof behaving as if it were 35. A huge headache. Now to the Morton's and what they did. John Morton and his brother David run the company. They are old hands with 40 years plus each in the business. I called up John who is recovering from a serious illness. We meshed. He looked at my building and worked up a quote. I had two written quotes with small guys who were cheap, but they were trying to keep the price of the roof down (and attractive) by using standard grade roofing materials. I showed John the roof and he worked up a quote using the premium materials and came in well below the small guys. And I followed them almost every day from tear-off to sign-off on the permit. First quality work by the men. Those valley gaps are only 3/4" wide and they are uniform!! This is a sign of care and craftsmanship. Almost no sun can get down there now. And there is aluminium sheathing in the valleys ion top of the of tar paper. Just a different approach. The net result is I received a beautiful well built roof and extra work thrown in without charge. I had to be patient with them and, like Alex inferred, they are tight on cash. So I made progress payments early to keep them going. In the end I saved and received the promised first class job. Because of them missing the performance dates, I need to take something off of the rating, but a whole star is too much. Let them have 4.5 stars.
