As we don't live in England, we thought it best to go for the Sharing menu for 4 people (25 pounds per person) and we definitely appreciated that they accommodated our request to switch a Chicken dish between the two sharing menus. Though some of the portions were small, it was plenty of food and I like having a diverse sampling. The lounge was modern and comfortable - they offered some nice champagne cocktails. The restaurant was quieter than expected, which I truly did not mind as it felt as if we booked a private dinner. We sat in a nice booth in the alcove, and that was fun. The food was tasty, delicious and interesting, however, I felt it was overpriced - came out to about 50 pounds per person (we ordered one cocktail each and shared one bottle of wine in addition to the sharing menu.) We did enjoy our dining experience there, and I definitely recommend trying it out especially if you can score a deal. But to pay full price, I'd recommend not doing the sampling menu as I feel it didn't live up to my expectation.

The menu has a selection of cold and hot mezes, as well as wraps and main dishes such as grilled meat. The variety of shisha flavours is pretty big, offering unusual tastes such as Irn Bru or Red Bull, as well as alcohol based flavours. We went for a Kiwi, Mint and Grape flavour, but it didn't impress me with a great taste. On a good note, they have a nice selection of cocktails including champagne based bellinis.

Gokyuzu & Kervan - Upstairs is a massive food hall, bit noisy and not intimate so maybe not for that first date unless they really love meat.

Unbeatable Wood…read moreGreen is my new local and since moving from Tufnell Park I keep coming back to Gokyuzu & Kervan.. let's call it G&K from now on. Ok it can be a bit intimidating when busy as it's noisy. Also the lighting makes me feel somewhat uncomfortable but the service is generally excellent and the food is unbeatable.. so you can understand that I have become a bit conservative when eating out in Wood Green. G&K is a Turkish restaurant that serves some authentic food. The plates are full of meat or veg and they provide an excellent salad, bread and dip starter for free. The salad is amazingly fresh every single time, the bread is warm and the dip tasty. The mains have so far never dissapointed. My donner is not too oily and goes well with the rice that's included. My wife's vegetarian was surprising good.. the aubergine was soft, moist, slightly oily and flavoursome. I m tempted to try the veg myself next time but the donner keeps calling me. The mixed grill is exceptional value for money. It has meats, bread and rice from what I remember. You also need at least 3 people to have a proper go at it. For once we tried the dessert.. the baclava was fresh but the rice pudding (called something else) is light and delicious. Personally I prefer the Greek baclava as it's a bit more moist but your taste could be different. To help digest we had some Turkish coffee, again exceptional. Turkish food is the harder edge of middle Eastern food. I always think that they are less delicate in cooking meats than Persian which by the way is my personal favourite. However the mixture of fresh salads seems to lighten the load of the meats on the body. K&G provides both quantity and quality and is well worth a visit.

Warm colours, a wide range of seating arrangements and loads of nice full plates. My friend and I had a some catching up to do and this was as good a place as any. The menu is very typical. Loads of meat and not many veggie options. We ordered two starters and two mains. That was way too much! They gave us hummus, bread AND a salad on the house. Plus all the rest of the delicious food this nearly killed me, as I can never resist a great Turkish meal. Also the waiters were amazingly nice and when I asked for some extra rice it was given without any extra charge. Amazing.

Gokyuzu & Kervan - Upstairs can be a bit more intimidating and noisier but downstairs there are crowds just by the door so choose your table carefully.

The owner is a very sweet and happy man who loves shaking hands and holding doors open. He's seen my partner so many times, he now hugs him when we leave. There is a large selection of vegetarian & vegan & veganizable meze and a small selection of mains. I usually go for the "fiesta" as it is the most food for money and I can swap the halloumi for roasted veggies, no problem. So much food, so much deliciousness. But be careful everyone! The most amazing freshly baked Turkish bread is placed in front of you before the meal, along with a spicy tomato dip and olives. It's so good, it's hard to stop, and then there is no room left in your tummy for the feast of your main! Also, for drinks- the house red is quite tasty for the cheapest option. Every time someone is visiting us from out of town and we want a nice meal, we bring them here. We've brought everyone from California to Japan here and always celebrate hubby's birthday here as well. I hope you will treat your friends!
