I love going to Moss foods for all my fresh meats and produce. It's a small old time country market which I don't see often in the area. It doesn't matter when I go, the employees are always friendly and very helpful. When things are sold out at the larger-more know stores I can guarantee it's still available here. read more

Don't expect the high polish of the big chain supermarkets, this is a gem in the rough... one of those little country stores where you can buy freshly butchered meats and locally raised produce. We will often take the hike all of the way out to Louisburg to stock up the freezer on turkey wings, ribs and chicken especially when we're planning a big family meal. Anyone that has been to a store that cuts meats, realistically knows there will be a smell. I go to Moss Foods and I really can't remember any foul smells. I love that they provide bulk at a fair price. Yes, it is small, but they have a one-way system that most of the regulars observe. If she left because of the smell, I can tell her she missed out. read more

If I could rate the customer service to zero I would. I talked to one of the person over the phone to inquire about the whole pig and he was so rude and not friendly at all. I know this is only 20 mins from the house and yes, I like to support local stores, but I don't mind driving an hour to somewhere else for this kind of customer service. read more

This is a local country store. They're different than chain grocery stores. My Uncle was a butcher and my grandparents killed what we ate. The smell is no different. I would travel 140 miles round trip to a store back home for side meat, frozen veggies and oxtails. I'm very pleased. What I'd expect as a country store. My season ham pieces from there too. Moss Foods does not Stink.It smells like a store.I can only speculate that the bad reviews were written by people who expect it to smell like cleaning products.I am amazed and grateful that I can buy meat fresh, not frozen.The frozen veggies are exceptional: baby limas, field peas, corn,arethe best I have found.The prices make it possible to have a balanced diet I can afford.The sweet potatoes are luscious year round.I love the fresh local produce sold seasonally.Moss Foods is a local treasure.If you don't like it, enjoy your meat frozen, shipped to China,processed ,frozen again, thawed,and sold as fresh.I won't attack your choice.Respect mine. read more

Moss Foods is a well established business in an older building. They cut fresh meat daily, for hours on end. The people who undercut the store with negative comments obviously raised in a small town with a local meat market. There is nothing wrong here, folks. Yes, it's a small store but I am sure that is what enables them to keep low prices. We drive from northern Durham County to purchase meats and bulk frozen lima beans (repackaged when we get home for our freezer). I'll take Moss over Food Dog or Wally World's meat anyday! read more

I grew up in the town and it has been years since I had visited the store. However, the smell is not excusable nor is the cleanliness. Great prices is what I recalled and an amazing place to buy meats in bulk which has not changed much since I left years ago, well due to the smell and cleanliness we ended up driving to Sam's Club and BJs almost an hour out of the way instead of supporting a local store (which is what we had planned to do) Meat prices were great,but the store smelled liked rotten meat, mildewed mop water and bad produce (not an exaggeration) instead of a fresh meat market! Bulky shopping carts filled the small isles of dusty over prices staple items making it extra hard to navigate the small store. However, the cashiers were amazingly friendly and the bag men were fantastic! read more

Very poor service on my first and last time to Moss foods. I had heard great things about the butcher meats and service, however, because of the shotty people working on that particular day I cannot review the meat quality. I stood in line and waited for one of the four people working the counter to help me. But to no avail. After a couple minutes I left. I typically go to whole foods, fresh market, and the meat house in Raleigh. I will continue to visit my regular places. Another side note.. the place has a weird smell. The smell is just "fresh" meat. I love it. We purchase chicken wings by the case for "wing" night at the Henderson Moose lodge. Today I am picking up 6 cases of chicken halves for our annual "chicken Plate" sale tomorrow. I normally buy meats that I need at home. I don't mind the 40 mile round trip to purchase what we need. Not sure why the bad reviews. From my experience, the store is very clean. I have never noticed the smell being out of the ordinary for a place that cuts their own meats. The store is small, but items are easy to find and well organized. I have bought meats from chain stores and upon thawing them, realized the meat wasn't any good. These meats are cheap in price, but still great quality and you can freeze or keep in fridge much longer than meats bought elsewhere. They also have milk and eggs which keep longer than chain store bought. I won't go anywhere else for produce, meats, eggs, and milk. read more

I was in there on Saturday after 1pm. I made several purchases but my main visit to the store was to purchase their hot dried sausage...upon looking at several packages I found mold to be on the meat. I showed it to a staff there and I continue to look through more packages and still finding mold. She pulled about 8 packs and said she would get me some from the back...she looked at other meats and found mold on them as well which she pulled. I think it was chitterlings. Well she brought me out 2 packs of sausage and after closely examining it again I found MOLD!! Put it back and left unhappy after driving 30 mins to the store read more
