Having had to travel for a good part of my career I have stayed in many B& B's. This place will stay in my top 10 for sure and definitely hope to make the pilgrimage at least once a year. The hostess and her husband are amazing people and in the conversations had you can tell they are very genuine and have a love for the place. I can only hope that their children take up the same affection and continue on. It would be a definite loss for Jonesville and anyone who is not experienced it.

We had a very unfortunate experience getting to Hillsdale from Detroit in our rental car from Avis (nightmare is more accurate) and he was more than accommodating, polite, understanding and very helpful during the entire time. The hotel is in a pleasant and charming neighborhood in close proximity to Hillsdale College and downtown. The grounds are well kept and welcoming. Check in was a breeze and our room was perfect. Some of the rooms do share common bathrooms, but this was expected and fine with us. Back in the day most of Europe was like this and we were used to it. The common areas were clean and cozy, other guests were fun to chat with and the "guest Haas" feeling was welcoming. The continental breakfasts were light and fresh, more than adequate. Overall a wonderful stay at a reasonably priced Inn, the service was way above any place we have stayed in years.

I honestly felt like I walked through a wardrobe into a Narnia world. The small sign at the drive was a bit tough to see, so as your map tells you you're close, slow down and look for the Bed and Breakfast sign. The vibe here is full on beautiful Pinterest, French countryside garden chateau. Everywhere you look there is something beautiful to see, from the outdoor pavilion to the stately rooms inside. The ivy covered buildings and gardens bursting with blooms are great backdrops for any photos. The wedding I attended was on a super hot, sunny June day, but there were plenty of amenities provided to guests to alleviate the heat: shade parasols, handheld electric fans, folding fans, and plenty of cold water. This was such a thoughtful touch and really helped make guests comfortable. The mansion in the background was a stunning view for the short but sweet ceremony. Once the ceremony concluded, we were greeted by staff members with water and wine and were directed to a courtyard for hors d'oeuvres and an outdoor bar. There were areas of shade from trees and umbrellas, which was a nice reprieve from the sun. The food was all perfectly arranged and the bacon wrapped date I had was a delicious sweet and savory bite! Molly and Jenn were pouring drinks with big smiles despite the heat. We were ushered into the main reception area -- a beautiful, airy, open pavilion -- by a tinkling dinner bell! Dinner was delicious and all staff members I interacted with were incredibly polite and professional. I was really blown away by the details and care put into this celebration at this amazing venue! I mean this isn't the freaking Grand Hyatt Regency in downtown Chicago nor is it the Trump Hotel. This is an American Best Value Inn. I think it says it all in the title of the hotel name. I travel a lot for work. I stay at all types of hotels. I will say this. This hotel is very clean. It has modern features. The staff are very nice. It's only $65 a night. What more do you want people? I mean, I could tell you stories of the Motel 6's, Super 8's, Quality Inn's and Days Inns that are not this modern and nice or this clean. The rates are at least 50% more in most cases. You truly are getting a good value at this hotel, and the big kicker is as I said above it's clean . No broken things or Bed Bugs. I gave this a four star rating and they deserve every last one. I can't tell you about the breakfast that they offer because I don't eat breakfast at any hotels so that doesn't factor into my decision. I stayed in the summer cottage, everything was decorated beautifully in antiques and every detail was attended to, from the fridge with soda, chips and chocolate, and fresh homemade brownies that waited us. The cottage is surrounded by beautiful gardens and a very friendly chonker cat named Lucy who will run up to you for pets (and might try to sneak inside the cottage if you let her). The breakfast was incredible with bacon, cheese eggs, perfectly done potatoes, and a platter of homemade pastries. The location is rural but it was close to the black pine animal sanctuary, and about 40 minutes away from Fort Wayne. It was a good springboard for all of the local breweries we planned to scope out, which there is a ridiculous amount of (or maybe not, you need something to keep you busy in these small towns).

I don't know if we'll ever make it back to Adrian, but if we do, we'll definitely stay at Heart Wood Place again.
