I never thought I would have to get an MRI done. I have over 30 piercings in my body and some were tricky to remove. Hunter was great in helping put in retainers into a few of my piercings that are in awkward locations in my ears. He gave me a few other retainers for other piercings that I was able to change myself. After my mri he was able to change the retainers back to my regular jewelry. I can attest to poor customer service and evasion of getting use of my $100 deposit. I made an appointment and had to reschedule twice. While I struggled to reschedule electronically, I made a point to call and text their "team" and they were even rude over text. Left me unanswered for days. A week ago I made contact with Austin the artist I had been referred to by a friend and confirmed my appointment. On the phone, he asked for photos of what I was hoping to get tattooed and I emailed them. I received a text message today saying my appointment's been canceled. I wasted 8 months of my time rescheduling and $100 of a deposit. I cannot recommend Austin as a tattoo artist. No transparency on his availability, very hard to get ahold of. I've had quite a few tattoos done here. Reviewing for each one is the best idea since each experience was different. My first time I wanted something specific, I searched for an artist, Madison did work that I liked the most. I sent a message on IG and got a quick response. I reached out to her specifically and she responded after a week. I booked 4 months out with her. The day of she showed me the tattoo idea, and I didn't love it, but she quickly listened to my thoughts, and it's a gorgeous piece I absolutely adore. It's hard for me to recommend Moth Tattoo. I had work done by Luis. The atmosphere of the shop was strange. Throughout my 2 and a half hours I was there, I heard the following: 1) an artist openly criticizing and outright making fun of a person's design choice after speaking to them on the phone about it, which is a bold move considering how small this city is 2) a piercer going on a profanity filled rant about the other piercer that works there 3) the entire shop making inappropriate, outright childish jokes about the new bikini coffee place that opened The shop just seems real gossipy and drama filled. I get it, theres almost always shop banter when you get work done by a shop that has multiple artists. Ive never been to one that has openly mocked clientelle and their design choices. They are the client, what you think of a design or why they picked the design shouldnt concern you unless they ask for your opinion. Your job is to either make their vision happen in the best way possible, or decline the project if you dont like it. It's unfortunate because it makes you wonder what they're saying about you once you leave. This alone made me not want to come back. The tattoo itself seems OK. The linework seems decent. I picked the design reference, and while im not fond of the design and how it turned out, I can't totally put the blame on Luis since it is an idea and design I picked that i thought id like. I do feel like there wasn't much care or thought put into my tattoo though. I made it clear when I first reached out that eventually I wanted a sleeve done and that this would be the start of it, and not once was I asked to come in for a physical consultation or even asked about the bigger picture as far as how i want the sleeve to turn out. It was sort of just "ok, here's my deposit, cashapp me, I'll see you wednesday". I found this very odd as good artists typically want to see in person what they're working with. The price I thought was pretty steep for what I got. The design is really simplistic and very straight forward, and yet I paid almost 250 an hour. 100 deposit, 500 dollars day of, and I was probably worked on for only 2 and a half hours max. This isn't including a tip, this is how much he told me to pay day of. You can get tattooed by some of the best artists in Los Angeles or the Bay Area for either the same hourly rate or by spending a bit more. All this money for a design I'll probably laser off for a cover up sooner rather than later (again, not totally the artist or shop's fault). I'm sure this shop is fine for piercings and very basic shop-minimum tattoos, one off forearm tattoos, quote tattoos, etc, If your wanting an actual sleeve project started, I'm not sure I can recommend this place. I will probably just go further out for work in this price range for far better results (SF, LA, San Jose, SLO all have great artists). I TECHNICALLY did get what I asked for (even if I don't like the way it came out) and it's not necessarily a terrible quality tattoo. The price to work quality ratio and the very judgemental vibe they gave off during my visit is enough to knock 4 stars off for me. This place is a NOT worth the money. read more

The fact that I had to make a yelp account just to leave this review should say enough. People need to know who's tattooing them. I came here to MOTH ART AND TATTOO COLLECTIVE run by Austin and his wife. I came as support for someone getting a tattoo but I planned on going next. I didn't get one and here's why. While I was there a Mexican woman and her daughter came in for a piercing and first off the piercer was not there when they came. So they waited and when he finally showed up he was sure as shit drunk. No lie. The owner didn't ever care even though he clearly saw his piercer (who is also apparently his brother) drunk. After the piercing was done the OWNER AUTSIN full on stopped his tattoo to go check what kind of car they were driving as they walked out. Apparently it was a nicer truck than his. He THEN started questioning why a Mexican woman who looks and dresses like her could afford a truck like that. What kind of "illegal shit" she had to do to get it. He was visibly so mad he was. Pacing back and forth in the shop. He then continued to spew racist shit about Mexicans and how they are ruining this country. If yall don't mind being tattooed by a completed fuckin racist or pierced by a drunk then moth is the PERFECT place for you. Otherwise the vibe is off. You won't feel welcomed if your anything other than white. Yall only get one star cause we're not allowed to leave 0! read more

Piercer Hunter Mathews (@_hamz_art on Instagram) at moth tattoo was absolutely amazing, I took my 9 yo daughter to get her ears pierced and hunter was so nice, he was gentle with piercing and didnt get frustrated at all when my daughter she'd a tear, he was reassuring with her and she actually allowed him to do her other ear! Had a bad experience with Luis Orona from moth tattoo. I discussed a tattoo I wanted and sent a reference photo. Luis took 9 days to reach out again (while posting about taking walk-ins) and when he did respond he sent a copy of pinterest image as if he drew up a whole new design for me. I decided not to go forward with it because it didn't seem he valued my time. I did ask about a refund which resulted in him complaining that he wasted his time "drawing up my stupid ass design", which he didn't as he kept my deposit and didn't draw up a design. I don't mind that it wasn't a unique design, but it shouldn't have taken so long to send me that kind of sketch. read more

Worst company ever!!! if I could leave them zero stars I would. went in and provided a detailed pic of a tree tattoo I wanted for both my friend and I. Maddison put zero thought into our tattoo, and it looks absolutely nothing like what we wanted. they offered to only "fix the tattoo" I reached out and requested they give me my money back because We are so unhappy with our tattoo and they stated they don't do refunds and I am not even a client of theirs. An artist tattooed a pizza slice on my hand and the ink fell out not long after. I messaged the shop on Instagram and got an appointment with Austin to see if he could just go over the lines again. He went above and beyond and improved the tattoo and it looks so much better than the original with the additions he made.
