I ordered a plethora of cocktails, including the old fashioned, Manhattan, paper plane, and negroni. All arrived in frosted glasses - a nice attention to detail. The old fashioned featured brown sugar syrup,.which rounded out the palate well. The Manhattan tasted well spiced - herbal but not overwhelming so. I also ordered a dozen oysters ($2 ea). These proved light on brine and extra fresh. I found no errant shell pieces. The lemon arrived sleeved, and the mignonette was a smoky chipotle. The happy hour price point is almost criminally cheap here. Sunday also has the happy hour menu.

I was pretty intrigued to check out their tours, which is only $5 for NY residents. We stopped by on a Sunday, but it was quite dead. I was too embarrassed to even ask about the tour, so we just went upstairs to the bar for a drink. The space is very classy and beautiful though. There were a couple others, but it was very quiet and slow. We ordered the Tom Kha Tiki ($22) and Applewood Smoked Old Fashioned ($22). The drinks are fun with fire and smoke involved. Other than that, the drinks were nothing too special. I wanted to like this place so much more.

As someone who always looks for a distillery stop when paths cross, Widow Jane did not disappoint. The space has a great industrial, Brooklyn-cool vibe, from the tables to the shelving to the bar itself. It feels intentional, hip, and still very much focused on the whiskey. What I really appreciated was the flexibility of the experience. You can order cocktails, flights, and even single or double pours, which made it easy for our group to explore the lineup in different ways. We ordered different flights across the table so we could sample broadly, and that approach paid off. They also offer a small but thoughtful selection of food items, perfect for pairing with tastings and taking the edge off while you explore the lineup. Nothing heavy, but exactly what you want when you are spending time with good whiskey. Two pours really stood out. The 10-year distillery-only release was excellent and worth the visit on its own, and the Black Opul 20 Year was something special. On the nose it leaned heavy into mature oak with some dark chocolate and dried fruit, and once you sipped it you got caramel, toasted nuts, a little leather, and a finish that just kept hanging around in the best way. It is one of those pours that makes you slow down and really appreciate what is in the glass. The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff knowledgeable, and the experience approachable without being dumbed down. A great stop for both casual fans and serious bourbon drinkers alike. Glad we made the stop, and I would absolutely return.

You don't think that NYC would have a top notch bourbon distiller but they do with Widow Jane. I took a tour last week while visiting and had a good time. Ryan, the tour guide, is also an employee in the distillery. He was informative and the story behind how Widow Jane started was fascinating. They are now affiliated with Heaven Hill which gives them national exposure and distribution in all fifty states. I came here because one I was in town and two a neighbor gave me a bottle of WJ bourbon as a gift a couple of months ago and I really like it. I had no idea they were in Red Hook and he told me that they are in Brooklyn. Anyway, I stayed after the tour and had a couple of cocktails at the bar. The Sazerac and Old Fashioned were top notch. Definitely pay Widow Jane a visit if you happen to be in Red Hook.

While the aesthetic has a hipster edge to it, let's be clear: this is not a place where you get a cheap bucket of beer served by a pretentious, disinterested bartender. It is a haven for people who truly appreciate exceptional spirits. They distill incredibly high-quality, rare spirits right on-site, and the innovation and quality show in every glass. It is obvious that an immense amount of thought, care, and consideration goes into the flavor profiles of both their unique creations and their brilliant takes on classics. The drinks are pricey, but it's worth it for the premium experience. Their rum old fashioned is a personal favorite -- a truly innovative take on a timeless cocktail. For those who abstain from alcoholic beverages -- they do have a handful of tasty mocktails available. What elevates the experience even further is the exceptional service behind the rail. Instead of the indifferent attitude you get at some trendy spots, the team here is welcoming and highly engaged. They take the time to ask about your flavor preferences to recommend the perfect drink. The space can get quite loud and high-energy -- especially when multiple lively groups or bachelorette parties are overlapping -- so be prepared for the cacophony. Even so, for phenomenal cocktails and incredible service, this place is unmatched! If you want a masterfully crafted drink in an unforgettable, high-energy setting, this is the spot. We will definitely be back! PRO TIP #1: New Jersey's draconian liquor laws prohibit microbreweries or distilleries from serving food, so bring your own snacks or order via your favorite delivery app. PRO TIP #2: Dismal Harmony does not have a private parking lot, but there is plenty of paid on-street parking on Morris Street. Bring change or use the ParkMobile app for the meters ($1 per hour) Monday through Saturday from 8am til 6PM; all street meters are free Monday through Saturday after 6pm and all day on Sunday. If you can't find a spot on the street, paid parking is also available in the Morristown Parking Authority Lot #10 (12 Wilmot Street).
