Extremely nice experience on a tune up on a Yamaha dirt bike , they were able to get the old dirt bike running super smooth again, reasonably priced and friendly service, the person gave me an estimated total and found one of the tire inner tubes was on really bad shape(bike was sitting for about a year with that tire flat) so he asked me if I wanted to replace it, is always nice to know they won't come up with surprises after the original estimate and if any additional things are needed to know how much extra will be. I have been a loyal customer to the Motorcycle City since 2009. I always bring my bikes to them everytime I need something major or just simply buying parts. Recently, I bought a bike from a friend that has been sitting for 4 years in his garage. I couldn't fix it myself so I decided to take it to their shop. Frank did a phenomenal job figuring out what what needs to be done with the bike. Could have told me to buy new parts that will cost me over $2K if I go to other dealers. But instead, he manually cleaned the system and made it happened. Now my bike is ALIVE!!! This is the least thing I can do to thank them. Please pass the good word for people that needs motorcycle mechanic that are honest and will go extra miles for you. ** so this next review is a couple hours after my first review. I recommended this place to my brother-in-law for his front and back tires replacement. So, I accompany him to the shop. I saw Frank first and told him we need new tires. Its needs -10 stars. Went in here to look at a used bike I saw on there website. Never heard of this place so thought I'd checked them out. I saw the bike and started checking it out upon arrival to the shop. It was in fair to poor condition, needed some work here and there. Was a fixer upper. But the price tag had it listed as if was a mint conditon used bike. Whom ever came out and started to talk to me about the bike, he then stated it was a salavged bike, REALLY? I figured well maybe i'll get it for a decent price, I asked about the price, he then asked cash? I said yes, all cash! He left into the office so I inspected the bike carefully and found they had tried to repair major damage and hide it, didn't do a very good job. I've been around motorcycles all my life, he must have thought I was stupid. He comes back out with his "calculator" and beings to tell me this BS about fees and what not. He then tells me 5500.00 for a bike thats worth about 2000.00, MAYBE! I tell him how much its actually worth according to the blue book and others for sale without a salavge title and in waaaaay better condition. I was being very nice about it. He then gets crazy!, raises his voice and gets in my face, I then smelled the liquor on his breath at 11am in the morning, I could tell he had been drinking. While my wife and daughter are standing next to me he's yelling at me. Drunk jerk! I turned around grabbed my family and left. This company should not be selling hacked up repaired bikes to the public. It's unsafe!... So I went into this place looking to spend money, called this place out on the faults and was willing to buy at a low book salvage price and fixer up. Went to check out a bike that was listed on their website. Frank let me take the bike to my mechanic which is the ONLY good thing about this interaction. Cam chain tensioner was loose, not really a big deal but something so easily to adjust makes you wonder. Both tires were in horrible condition and I was told the bike was ready to go (it's in the description post for the bike) and the biggest thing is the voltage regulator was broke and bike was getting up to 17 volts on a 12v system. His own mechanic said the bike would blow up from that. How shady is that. Even after all that I was still considering buying it because Frank said they would take care of it. I mentioned maybe taking a little off the price for new seats given he just tried to sell me a bike that was going to blow up and he wouldn't even consider it. The in house financing is a joke and in no way affiliated with Motorcycle City, Frankj just refers them customers. So, my husband is in the market for a new (used) motorcycle, and we were in the area of this shop in Lemon Grove today. We walked up just before 2:30pm and the sign posted on the propped-wide-open front door clearly said they close at 3:30pm on Sundays. Not only was the employee who my husband said hello to completely cold and unfriendly, he snapped at us and said "WE. ARE. CLOSED." with a look that would kill. Who knows if my man had $10 or $10,000 in his pocket to spend in that shop? What we do know is that with "customer service" like that, we will not be spending a damn penny of our money at Motorcycle City. There are dozens more shops in San Diego more worthy of our business, and maybe the guys at Motorcycle City could take a cue from some of the other shops (like Badlands in Spring Valley) that were more than happy to have our business. I had the drive belt on my Harley sportster replaced, they were great about helping me find the cheapest parts online and honest about all my services. They adjusted my clutch for free and gave me some tips. The second time I returned with clutch problems and they helped me out without charge. Good people down there! read more

I had to write this review for my friend so that his experience will be clearly articulated. Late November 2013 he brought his Harley to Motorcycle City to have his clutch repaired; it had 50,000 miles on it. It took one week for them to obtain the parts. The bill was $500 for parts and labor. A few days later he went back and asked if they could adjust his clutch. This was done by only adjusting the clutch cable. Four months and only 7000 miles later the clutch was slipping again. The Harley-Davidson repair manual procedure for a clutch adjustment requires an adjustment on the clutch itself, not just the clutch cable. But the clutch was slipping as badly as it was prior to it getting "repaired" at Motorcycle City. He went to Motorcycle City and explained his dissatisfaction with the brief time period and low mileage of their handiwork. Their retort was that they warranty nothing. He decided to replace the clutch with the H-D Screamin' Eagle high performance clutch kit. And he would do it himself. When he removed the case cover and accessed the primary drive and clutch shell there were two discoveries or rather, revelations. The first was a bent piece of strap metal that didn't fit any description or illustration of a legitimate part within that casing. Upon removing the friction discs and spacers from the clutch shell, the other thing was that Motorcycle City only replaced TWO of NINE friction discs and one spacer. It seems that Motorcycle City replaced the minimum needed to get the bike back on the road for however brief that might be. The bent piece of strap metal turned out to be more problematic when he identified its reason for being. Because when he tightened the adjusting screw on the clutch hub he needed to wedge a "stopper" between two gears so the hub wouldn't spin when tightening it. Motorcycle City had left its stopper in place and if they realized their error before starting the bike then they decided to chance it rather than draining the gear oil from the primary drive case and removing the thirteen Allen head screws that holds the cover onto the case. When the bike was started it bent the stopper and spit it out leaving it to wallow in the primary drive case. Whatever-- the person or persons at Motorcycle City responsible for that special bit of negligence can only be described as an idiot. The Screamin' Eagle clutch rocks and this review brings closure to the travesty of dishonesty and negligence at Motorcycle City of Lemon Grove. read more

These shady scheming jerks said over and over that there was nothing wrong with my '07 'Busa even though it clearly has an issue. Another shop agreed with me that there's an issue, but until Motorcycle City realized my warranty was two months OR 1000 miles, they said there was no issue. I'm two weeks short of two months. Then they realized I had gone over 1000 miles and suddenly there IS an issue with my bike (no kidding!), but now it's all on my to fix it. Don't go here, don't buy from these guys. read more

Motorcycle city must be a front for some other type of venture. I was in the market for a motorcycle and called motorcycle city. I got to explain what I was looking for, which bike I wanted and that I had a trade. Apparently, all of the inept staff are unable to make any decisions about their bikes, potential trade ins, financing etc. Only "Frank", whom I never met, even after setting up three separate appointments with this clown, could actually deal on a bike. Allow me to elaborate on what "honestly earning my business" means at MC: The bike in question a 2007 Yamaha R6 for the asking price of $6495; with taxes and fees $7300 give-or-take. They sent out their best to tell me about their "in house financing" Essentially they wanted to low ball me on my trade. No surprise there. After all, "the blue book is only a guideline" The kid with the accent couldn't even tell me if the bike was salvaged or not. Then he structured a deal that Frank *might* approve. It was me putting down half the $7300, then adding their "in-house financing fee", a non negotiable 20% of the financed portion of the bike. This is the fee that Frank charges to provide financing in order to give his customers the privilege of paying another 20% on the financed amount. Long story short I was to pay full retail for a used bike with a salvage title and then give Frank $980 more dollars to finance another $4500 at 20%. Total price of vehicle would be My KLR for $1000 + $2500 cash + 24 easy payments of $290.00 for a grand total of $10460.00 for a 2007 bike with 24k miles and a salvage title worth about $3000. Oh yeah and that includes the military discount !!! They figure if Iraq doesn't kill you you may live long enough to help make Frank a rich man. I have nothing against making a buck but let's be honest here; a profit is expected but this type of underhanded, ignorant and dishonest attempts at fleecing the veterans of our military is unconscionable and should be illegal. I am no expert but isn't 40% usury? Yeah, if its been a while since you've been raped or your into submission stop on by and let Frank and his crew take a lick at you while whispering in your ear about the military discount. PS not all is entirely bad. The sales guy named Paul seemed to be embarrassed to try and fleece me for 40% interest. read more

Was shopping for a two bikes (his and hers) and decided to hit up all three shops in this area. First i drove past thinking it was closed because I was expecting to see bikes outside like the pictures online. We turned back around figuring I'd look through the windows and parked on the side street since there is no parking on Broadway or parking lot. To my surprise there were a couple of bikers in the garage and the shop was open. Walking through the "showroom" was difficult for hubby, as there were bikes wall to wall with little to no space. Every bike was clearly labeled with prices indicating they were salvage titles. Even then, they were expensive. Someone was in the back office talking on the phone. He looked up and saw us but never once acknowledged us or provided and customer service. We left figuring this place is more for repairs than sales. read more

If you are looking for somewhere to get a brake and light inspection for the DMV, do NOT go here. They told me they could do the inspection, they charged me $45 and gave me a DMV form completed by a 'certified' inspector. However, when I went to the DMV they did not accept the form. It was not the proper form, so now I have to get a REAL brake and light inspection from a REAL certified inspector and go BACK to the DMV. They charged me $45 for a piece of paper that is useless. read more

Took a my bike that i recently bought here to swap tires with ones of different bike. I advised that my bike(recently bought) had been sitting for 10 years outside. First the guy swapped tires in a hurry and then put both rear pads between caliper and disk. I took it back and a different mechanic fixed. They had to replace disc, pads and caliper. cost me over $105 tire work. Owner told me he would come me an oil change. For brake/caliper issue. So I was happy, advised I would come back later for oil change. About 1 month later (rode bike 5-since work was done). My bikes back tire is flat I go to put air in it and valve stem comes off in had with air chuck. So I call them back. They want another $100 to replace valve stems. I call other places and all advise they can do it cheaper $65-$80, however all recommend asking first place if they can fix it. So I call back and ask instead of oil change can you replace stems guy says ok, advises they are in stock and to drop off tomorrow morning. I told him I'll drop if tonight, I am unable to drop of Thursday due to work. When I get there I tell the mechanic I drop of to what's going on he says ok he'll get it done however he says he doesn't have valve stems. Advises autozone across the street does, otherwise he is going to charge me for new stems. I go by 3 different ones since I don't know which size he needs for my rims. I drop off to mechanic and leave. They call next day say bike is done. I go to pick up and mechanic says I owe him $25. I ask why I paid for stems myself and he was doing stems instead of free oil change. I tell him sorry I don't remember you telling me that yesterday, you said you would do it instead of oil change. He says he's running shop alone (which isn't easy) and told me exactly cause he remembers me call back the second time asking to swap oil change for valve stems that oil change was $75 and I would owe him $25. I apologized again saying I don't remember that and I'll go get money. He says so who's the liar here. I told you over phone the difference, then you show up without money, your pretty bad man.!!!!!! They should have fixed valve stems the first time after I advised them the bike was sitting for several years, not get upset and try to charge me money for their poor mechanic services. read more

I decided to get a second opinion and stopped by MOTORCYCLE CITY for an estimate. FRANK is a great guy, I have nothing but great things to say about him. He looked at my bike and could not believe they told me 2,500 to get it back in shape, he was pissed! He told me "650 dollars and ill call u when to pick it up TOMORROW" I could not believe this I mean lets be honest...He could have said anything under 2,500 and i wouldve been like ok lets do it...but instead he said almost 2000 dollars less.. The next day, right when he said he would, he called me and told me to pick it up. The bike is running amazing and i saved nearly 2000 dollars!! I went to get my tire changed today-March 4, 2011 and they said it would be $75 because they had to take off the saddlebags and exhaust of my 07 Yamaha Vstar 1300. I said that would be fine because it would be extra work. Their price on their website for a rear cruiser if $45. I watched them from start to finish and they did not take off the saddlebags or the exhaust. They still charged me $75!! I tried to dispute it but he stated that it is the normal price for a cruiser and he had to use a different method to take the tire off. That different method was him throwing a jack under it and raising it up untill the bolt dropped below the exhaust. I have filed a report with the BBB and am waiting on the outcome. I think they charged me $75 because I am a woman. read more

Customer service......no good. Bike selection and quality.....even worse! I'm the dummy for falling victim to the "salvaged means nothing" speech. The bike was basically held together with gum it seemed. Looked awesome and rode fine for about an hour. A fuse on the cluster gauge (irreplaceable) burnt out so the light never turned off. About a week later, turns out the stator didn't work either so my bike died on the freeway. The tail light became so loose during the ride home after I bought it, the tail fairing cracked in two places from the movement. Mostly my fault for being so unknowledgeable, but all of theirs for selling a pile of junk. Also, military is just more dollar signs in their eyes. I say steer clear of this spider hole or you might get caught in the web of lies. read more

I paid Motorcycle City to clean my motorcycle carburetor but they did not clean the whole carburetor. I got the carburetor back but it was still vary dirty and it looked like it had not been cleaned at all. How hard is it to clean something, when someone tells you that they cleaned some thing you expect it to be done right. If you can't trust someone to clean a carburetor which is the easiest motorcycle repair to perform. How can you trust them to do any thing else. Dealing with Motorcycle City has been a big waste of my time and money if you need a repair shop that you can trust to tell you the truth and do the job right the first time this is not the shop for you. I give Motorcycle City one star only because that is the lowest rating you can give. If it were possible I would give Motorcycle City zero stars. read more
