I've been around bikes or riding dirt bikes and motorcycles for most of my life (about 30 years, from age 3 to 33), but I never truly felt confident in my riding until I took this course. Even if you've been riding for a long time, you can still learn a lot about the fundamentals and the physics behind motorcycle riding. One of the instructors, Rick, was very efficient and clearly explained how the course would work and what to expect during the in-person riding days. The presentations, demonstrations, structure, and overall instruction exceeded my expectations. The instructors have a great way of breaking things down so they're easy to understand and apply in real time. At times, it can feel a bit stressful trying to understand everything in such a short time, but if you take notes and pay attention you'll be fine. Plus, it's more of an excited, motivated kind of stress, you want to succeed. They provide all the tools you need to pass both the written and practical exams and do a great job preparing you for the DMV written test as well. One major benefit is that if you pass this course, you won't need to take the DMV riding test, which relieves a lot of additional stress. This was a fantastic experience. It's super structured and very saturated with tools, safety protocols, strategies and techniques for navigating a motorcycle in various situations. Been a dirt bike rider for decades but had no idea how much there was to learn on the street. My husband is an advanced dirt biker and he even said that he learned so much. The instructors are very knowledgeable and really hit home the importance of the safest way to navigate turns, stops, body positioning and more. It's designed by a CHP officer so it's real skills and information to help you obey the law and stay alive! All the information they share is on the test, both the riding test and the written and will also help you pass the DMV written test. It's a lot of work and can be hot outside, but we had breaks, bring water and bring snacks and wear a light long sleeved shirt for afternoons. You leave with a new understanding of your riding skill, your bike and the rules of the road. Elliot was amazing, he was kind and patient and encouraging. It can get a little stressful learning so much in a weekend, but he made it great. The other instructors were fun as well and very serious about the importance of understanding the skills and exercises and gave great feedback. I never thought that attending a motorbike training would be so fun, though a bit tiring since I'm not getting younger, and I feel so accomplished afterwards. I had never driven a motorcycle before, so I thought I should try. In this review, I can share my experience honestly. All the instructors were truly professional, from the day 1 online meeting to day 2 of the first actual training and day 3 of the final training today. . . April 19, 2026. Dave, Elliot and Bob are truly exceptional and awesome. Salute to all the instructors for being cool and pushing us to learn more. There hasn't been a dull moment during the training. It's a lively environment. Time passes slowly because you keep doing many driving exercises. If you make a mistake, just like I did, the instructor always instructs you to pull over to the side and explains your error, which I honorably accept. Well, I just did my best and kept going, even though my 'muscle memory' wasn't fully working. What can I do? Just do your best, of course and enjoy the ride. This training truly gives me self-confidence. I think I'm ready to purchase my first bike next month once I get my license so I can practice more before I join to a group trip. There are several things that make MRE Simi Valley so great, and I will cover each one in a few topical paragraphs. Some background on me is that I am a dirt and Moto-trials rider, who has bad habits for street riding - so though experienced, there is a lot I needed to learn, work on, and practice. First and foremost, the Zoom Meeting with instructor Dave (not sure of his last name), was perfectly concise and covered important topics. From the get-go, I knew that the instruction from this company was going to be concise and effective, and that the instructors at this company were going to be high-quality. Showing up on the first day of class, I met the owner of the company, an instructor named Bob, and an instructor named Dave Kaji. The owner of the company was as friendly as could be, Bob was obviously incredibly experienced, and I will get back to Dave Kaji later in this review. The first lessons learned were truly the first lessons to be learned riding a motorcycle. I've seen some reviews where people make it seem as if you need some level of experience to take this course, it just simply isn't true. They taught us every tool needed in order to ride a motorcycle quickly and successfully. It was amazing watching people who had never touched a clutch before excel at it in just a few hours. The lessons were a mixture of the instructors reading off of the company handbook, as well as speaking directly to us for further explanation and to answer any questions. We ran through exercises that included everything from crab-walking a bike to learn the clutch friction zone all the way to negotiating extremely tight turns, and using counter-steering to evade obstructions. Despite my experience in dirt moto, I left better, and with a TON of tools in my toolbox I can utilize to break my bad street riding habits, and become a great rider. So, despite this being only a two day on motorcycle course, the tools and practice you're given is timeless. When it comes to testing, none of it was a surprise. The written test was a series of questions directly off of the study material and covered in class - everybody in my group passed it with no problems. With that being said, it was not overly basic/simple, and it delved into topics such as outside-inside-outside curve negotiations, which are incredibly important. The on-motorcycle testing was nerve-racking, especially for people with OCD like myself, but that's for the best. When you hit the streets and are surrounded by pedestrian tanks, your nerves are going to take a hold of you, and you need to have the muscle memory it takes in order to have the awareness you need to assess the situation and take the right action, even when in a fighter or flight mode when muscle memory becomes critical. Nearly everybody in our class passed the test, and each exercise was directly taken from the exercises taught to us prior in the day. None of it was a surprise. To return back to the instructors, Dave Kaji is the gem of this course in my opinion. His relaxed and supportive demeanor was truly a breath of fresh air all while maintaining a confident hand to follow. He was the perfect mixture of highly professional and highly approachable, attuned to each person's needs on an individual level, and he executed instruction FLAWLESSLY. This was my attempt to see if riding a motorcycle was for me and had no prior experience. If I did well I would continue to get my license and if I fell over a bunch I wouldn't. The chose this course due to the positive reviews and they offer rental helmets and I did not want to purchase a helmet before I knew I wanted to ride. The price is expensive but for what I learned irreplaceable. The course started online with Dave using Zoom. He did great, even with some technical issues. Nothing out of the ordinary, just general safety info, about the course, expectations, norms, and so on. I went on a Saturday to the riding portion and had Elliot and Dave. Both were exceptional, patient, and gave good feedback. I was on a higher seated bike that seemed to be close to a dirt bike or adventure light I guess. I have driven manual transmission vehicles before and was used to the idea but the throttle and clutch were hard for me to learn. I was very jerky with the throttle in first gear and would say that was my biggest issue of the whole course. The lessons were clear, norms were easy to follow, outcomes and expectations were met. The second part of Saturday was the classroom portion and was great. Dave was engaging, told some stories but stayed on track, answered all questions thrown to him, and did frequent checks for understanding. At the end was a written test that was straight forward and very similar to the DMV written test. Sunday morning was the second riding portion where we stepped up the exercises. I thought I did well, struggled with the throttle most the time, but felt comfortable with the drills. Then came the tests. The first was the cone weave and I totally blew it. Went too wide on the very first one, let go of the clutch, missed the second cone, over the third, and dropped a foot. Nerves got to me. We then got to the breaking portion and my fat foot put the bike into neutral BOTH attempts resulting in me not getting to speed. I knew at that point I failed but continued. The turning drills went well, I was comfortable with those. At the end of the test we did a intersection mock drill of turns, stops, signaling, etc. This was a lot of fun and I feel gave some insight into real situations. I did fail, by one point, and was more than upset with myself. I would have rather failed horribly than missed by one point but Elliot was positive, went over my options, and affirmed the reasons I knew I messed up. I was so mad the whole weekend, frustrated, embarrassed, but decided to go to the DMV and take the written. Did that on Tuesday and passed, giving me a little hope. At least I had a permit and could practice. I decided to return the following Sunday and wait in standby (standby is free but not guaranteed, or you can pay like 125 for a spot). I got in and decided to do the training as well as the test. Elliot gave me the option at the start and before the test again to see if I was ready. If I failed again, I would have to pay full price to retake the course. The training went the same as before with Elliot and Bob. Again, both were phenomenal. Took the test and passed. I felt like Bob was truly happy for me! My key take aways. The instructors were great. I learned a ton and am practicing the drills they taught in parking lots as well as on my daily commute. My failure was my own on the first round. I got very nervous for the test and felt I needed more time. Something that exists by the course design is that you are limited by time and others in the course. Some people struggled to get to speed, stall out, mess up, and would slow other down, decreasing the number of attempts at the practice. The instructors would pull those people aside (including myself once) and coach them while others continued. Overall this was a fantastic experience. While it is an expensive experience I do recommend trying it even if you do not intend on riding a motorcycle. I wish my wife had done it with me just to share in the learning. read more

Overall a tolerable experience. The enrollment process was simple, the ease of navigating the scheduling was alright and the staff were knowledgeable. Bob and Elliot were excellent instructors. The one thing I will say is they need to make it more transparent on the pricing if a student does not pass the end of course riding exam. After spending all the hours on the course and passing the written exam, I failed the riding portion by a single point. I've been riding dirt bikes for the past 7 years and have some riding experience. Albeit some "dirt riding habits" but I have experience in the fundamentals. During my time riding, I observed multiple riders making more mistakes than me that got their certificates at the end of the course. Some of those people also got an opportunity to re-do a technique in order to pass the end of course exam. I am curious as to why if I was deficient in one point that why was I not afforded the opportunity to re-do just one in order to pass and not have to pay $140 just to come to take that same test (not to mention wasting 8 hours of a day of the governments dime on active duty orders). Almost $600 later for a BRC I finally earned my certificate. I wish I did more research prior to enrolling here. There were a ton of options with much more streamlined process and would have saved me time and money. I place no blame on Bob and Elliot, I own my own mistakes. But I imagine MRE is motivated to not pass a student to get that nice $140 kick back to re-take the exam. Good rule of thumb to describe this place: it's all business. I took this class with no prior riding experience, not even knowing how to turn a bike on and passed. This class gives you great fundamentals to ride properly. While riding, instructors would give feedback if you were doing good or tips to help you improve. It was super helpful because it allowed the rider to make corrections in real time & get a feeling of how to do something correctly. Importantly, the feedback was never discouraging. Red, Nate, Duan & Bob were great. Safety was emphasized over anything else. The group ranged from people with riding experience to none, however everyone was super helpful and encouraging. My son just turned 18 and we got him a motorcycle and I was so excited to do this class with him. I grew up riding dirt and some street but was never licensed and my son had never ridden before. This class teaches you you never knew how to ride correctly LOL! I learned so much and my son was nervous but after the first riding class you could see his confidence growing. The instructors we had were Dave, Duan, Elliot and Bob. All of them were so patient but firm. They let you know as soon as you made a mistake and how to fix it without making you feel horrible or like you couldn't do it. Anyone and I mean anyone could learn something new from this class. If I could, I would give this school zero stars! This school was awful; if you're a beginner, please save your money. DO NOT GO HERE!!! There were a couple of good instructors, maybe 2, but the management was the worst here; it makes you believe it is on your side if you have an issue with his employees. My experience was awful. I had a problem with the last instructor, Bob, not to mention his minion, Elliot Spineless, who has no mind of his own and does whatever Bob says. Bob so happens to be the one who gave that previous final skills test, and boy, did he never forget that I spoke back to him. Because he managed to fail me three times with outrageous, ridiculous scores, I left that school not broken but more encouraged and stronger than ever. All they would say was, "Oh, we want you to be a safer rider." I made sure to make the proper complaints because this man was horrific. He held grudges and made sure he would make me feel discouraged every time because he had that power, or so he thought. Please save your money. I am now licensed because I am and always was a great rider, and luckily, I was not a quitter!! This school is a joke, and the management that runs it is also; he was scared to speak and correct his employees. Save your money and go to school with professionalism. I was told I was an excellent rider, and when I told them the ridiculous scores I received, they said they never heard of such a thing; after they had seen my riding, go figure. This review had to be written because of people like this, they should not be allowed to take people's money, it isn't right. I just finished the first course last weekend. Like others, I've been riding for many years (in the dirt) and thought it would be a good idea to get properly educated on street riding before transitioning back to it. The two are similar and very different at the same time. My goal was to break some bad habits and develop some good ones. I learned things on the first night I hadn't picked up in decades of experience. I gained a lot of practical knowledge in the classroom, or Zoom in this case, that we then applied on the range the following days. In particular, getting ready to ride in terms of safety, strategies to navigate curves with confidence, and the hazard/crash avoidance techniques were all important to me. Nick kept the Zoom sessions interesting and interactive while Rick, Nick, Bob and Elliot were hands on with us at the range. Having the more complex exercises run through first by the instructors, before our turn, was a huge help. We practiced most strategies we covered in class multiple times. Coaching was ongoing during the exercises which built the skills and confidence. The selection of bikes was broad, something for everyone. And they even had an XXXL helmet for my huge head. I came out of it with the essential tools I was looking for and skills that I can build on with repetition and through their more advanced courses. I'd highly recommend MRE to anyone, beginner or experienced. It was time and money well spent. read more

I enrolled in MRE's beginner class as soon as I purchased a bike. Even though staying off of it until I completed the course was difficult, I'm truly glad I did. Being able to spend a concentrated amount of time in a classroom (the first one via Zoom), and two days over a weekend on a motorcycle on a course (MRE provides the bikes), made all the difference in my confidence once I finally climbed aboard for my first ride. Rick (the owner), Elliott, Bob (who really should do stand-up), and the in-person classroom instructor (whose name eludes me but his masterful, hilarious instruction does not), were universally fantastic. They're patient, kind (but firm), and most importantly, there to teach you efficiently and effectively. I came away from the course hardly feeling like an expert (it's clear to me this will take years and logging lots of miles), but someone who has a firm grasp of motorcycle safety basics. I was immediately able to put these skills into play during my first few rides and continue to do so. It's difficult to overstate how important this class was for me once I pulled into actual traffic the first time. I cannot imagine having done so without this course. The bottom line is the cost is worth every penny. It gives you peace of mind and a strong grasp of the basics involved in safe cycling. Every day I learn something new, but this is always reinforced by the basics I got from MRE's instructors. Just wrapped the course. I didn't go in cocky, but I did go in with a few years of dirt bike experience. I quickly discovered that I knew a little about how to make a bike move and nothing about how to ride a motorcycle - properly or safely. This course was a light bulb. And still only scratching the surface. The proof is in the pudding. Day 1 you had a group of riders, many of whom had never sat on a motorcycle or faced a manual transmission. Day 2 they're all properly navigating turns and hazards at varying degrees of speed, counter-steering, and leaning. That's the product of phenomenal instructors, a first class curriculum and suitable (and well maintained) bikes. Katie, Christian, and Bob all provided expert tutelage, clear feedback, and kept us engaged. I'm already figuring out when I can fit in the next course. Only regret is that I didn't do this sooner. Do yourself a favor and take the course. Even if you don't end up buying a bike and hitting the streets. Worst case scenario, you have an epic time. Second worse case scenario, you become a more aware driver and look out for motorcycles more (I feel like every driver should take this course!). Best case scenario, you learn the fundamentals, become a safer rider, go on to take the advanced courses and dramatically increase your chances of safely enjoying something awesome. I absolutely loved this 3 day course. Every part was beneficial from Barry in the classroom to Duan, Danny & Elliot. Duan really makes himself available to you even once the course is over. All these instructors genuinely love riding and want you to succeed. They provide the bikes & helmets, you just need to show up with correct riding shoes, long pants and sleeve t-shirt. From turning on the key on day 1 to doing 25 mph and practicing sudden stop drills. I'm really glad I took this course and made friends with the group I learned with. As a first-time rider, I am so thankful for the experience with MRE. The classroom instruction was well-presented and actually useful (thanks Dave and new guy whose name I can't remember)! The best is of course the hands-on instruction. The first day was very challenging for me as I simply got used to shifting (still working on shifting into 2nd and not into Neutral) and the throttle. The second day improved my confidence. While I came close to passing the practical portion, I did have to come back and repeat the 2nd day of instruction and retake the test. The class time seems like a long commitment, but it goes pretty quick and all the instructors have tons of knowledge and experience, their own personal stories and anecdotes to add to the material so none of it feels redundant or boring. I got to work with many of the instructors, I can vouch for Rick, Red, Bob, Duan, Dave, and Elliott. There are great video tutorials in class. The instructors demonstrate every new maneuver and every exercise is explained clearly. Some people reviewing on here have complained about being reprimanded or asked to leave, honestly the likely truth is they just weren't following instructions. I saw this happen a couple times and mostly it was riders with prior experience trying to be hot shots, not the actual newbies. Motorcycling is dangerous and yes the instructors won't tolerate people who aren't listening or following the rules. Experience or not. Rightly so. All the instructors are cool and have helpful feedback. I was so nervous I choked on the exam a couple times. I was too caught up in my own head. You get one free re-take that you can come back and try again, unfortunately after the second try since I failed again I had to retake the whole course. But I was not upset about it! I agreed with their decision, if I was screwing up on the exam I'd surely screw up out on the road and it'd be much riskier there. The third time was a charm and with the extra riding time and practice, and confidence, I passed with flying colors and the instructors were so proud! I cannot say enough about my amazing experience with MRE Corp! It has been my dream for over 20 years to learn how to ride a motorcycle. It's been over a decade since I've actively rode motorcycles and wanted to "sharpen the knife" (skills) before considering buying a new motorcycle. The class teaches to the lowest skill level at first, but quickly increases to average rider skills. As a beginner motorcycle rider, but experienced mountain bike rider, this class was very valuable and should be required to get a motorcycle license. And, MRE's CMSP MTC course is the one to take. First off, let me say normally I am not one to take training courses for basic things. As a person, I am pretty capable, perhaps overly confident. I prefer to work on my own and train myself to an intermediate level, if not higher before taking a course. But, as my life experience has increased, I realize that pros generally just do the basics really really well and getting instruction from those that know is the way to start. Moreover, taking MRE's CMSP MTC course was literally the fastest way for me to get a license after looking at the dmv time suck not to mention the skills I would have to develop on my own to get and pass the DMV driving test (the written test not being an issue). My experience in riding road bikes literally was one instance prior to taking MRE's CMSP MTC class. The first time I rode a road motorcycle was over twenty years ago at 18 when, without ever riding a motor powered two wheeled vehicle (let alone driving one), I jumped on my fellow inside linebacker buddy's Honda 1100 Interceptor and proceeded to ride: laying it down at two stop signs, down shifting to redline in third to pass a racing sports car, and pushing it over 120mph round the big-lake perimeter two lane highway in summer without any eye protection (there were insects hitting my face, --but I had a helmet on, perhaps the only responsible thing I was doing in that activity). I knew it wasn't smart after, but now I really know how stupid my decisions were in those 45-60 mins of my life . The training in this beginner class is invaluable. The instructors day one (forgive me, but I don't remember his and her names), instructors Rick and Bob day two, and Nate's virtual, educated and experienced instruction in class was all very instructive. The riding instructors were very attentive and observant (clearly well trained), providing active and patient critique but also positive reinforcement when it was clear that you were correcting/learning/working to do what they were recommending you correct. This is an active learning exercise, where you are learning with your mind and your body, something we generally are not used to in our sedentary, internet based lives and quieter-and-safer-than-ever car driving. Controlling a powerful motorized cycle is no joke, especially when you realize (as they teach you) how dangerous it is TO YOU when you or other vehicle operators make a mistake. You learn why and how you need to know and master your bike, which necessarily means knowing and mastering your body and mind (i.e. skills) in riding and controlling that bike. You learn that this (riding a motorcycle) is an exercise in risk, where we need to reduce the inherent risk in this activity by making responsible decisions in how we ride, view riding and keeping ourselves humble ready to learn what will make us better/surviving riders. Mastering your bike and yourself as a rider is the only way you can reduce (1) your mistakes and (2) be able to react properly to the mistakes other drivers/people make that threaten you. This is how you reduce and make the risk acceptable to ride. Riding a bike is exhilarating, challenging and dangerous. It is very different than riding a mountain bike down narrow steep paths, where your eyes are constantly looking down and then up for path obstructions. Motorcycle riding is head up then glance down. Through MRE's observant instructors, I learned that I need to keep my head up, to fight my learned instinct to ride with my head 20-30 degrees like I do when riding down or on the mountain trails. I am still learning, but soon it will be habit. I honestly do not know if I ever would have realized that I was riding head tilted down if I had not taken MRE's class. I cannot recommend this class and MRE enough. I took the class 10-13 June. I received my certificate faster than I expected, took it to the DMV that day and had my license by noon, 24 June. I already have nearly 750 miles on the paved and dirt road riding my 650GS. I am learning my bike and developing skill, while NOT downshifting to redline in third or exceeding a safe speed for the conditions ;-). Intermediate Course was very worthwhile! I just got a motorcycle, and needed to get better quickly to enjoy some upcoming road trips with my more experienced friends. This course expands on the Beginner, and gets you very comfortable ON YOUR OWN BIKE, which was so helpful! My afternoon ride home after the course through Topanga Canyon was completely different than the exact same route I took to the course that morning. I felt 100% more confident in corners especially. It's nice to feel confident in what your bike can do! Rick was a great coach! He always had helpful tips and was very positive and encouraging. I recommend this course to all bikers who haven't had any training beyond the beginner course. You may feel very comfortable on a bike, but reinforcing the practices they teach in this course can only make you a better and safer rider! I took this class just to get my license without having to take the dumb riding test at the dmv. I'd actully been riding for years illegitimately. I ended up learning quite a bit though. Elliot was my teacher and he was really smart and patient with us. I've been practicing some of the things I learned in the class, especially what I learned about countersteering and such. I feel like it has really changed my ability to handle my bike in the turns. I big thank you to these guys. I am a safer and better rider now. read more
