Brought in my 2017 Tahoe with 73,000 miles on it the first week of November 2025 for an engine replacement, finally got it back ONE MONTH LATER. Was told it may take 3 weeks to finish so I was patient but after 4 weeks it became quite annoying, especially since I had to rent a car. Picked it up and was told that it had a bit of "hesitation" and that it was probably the transmission or dirty fuel injectors, Gary suggested high octane fuel and fuel injector cleaner. Why they didn't investigate this further prior to telling me the truck was ready was stupid and unprofessional, but I trusted Gary. I tried both and it still ran terribly. Brought it to a transmission shop and was told that the transmission was perfect. Brought the truck back to Motor Works and I was told that the truck needed a 02 sensors and fuel sensors, which were replaced by Motor Works. Left motor works and then found the engine had a vibration. Took my truck to a trusted mechanic that told me motor works never replaced the harmonic balancer which causes the vibration. Motor works should have replaced this part but never did. I was also told by Motor Works that the engine mounts should have been replaced, to which I agreed, but in hindsight I probably should have inspected first. Unfortunately, I was too trusting, and it was close to Christmas. The entire job cost me OVER $10,000.00 and my truck still runs with a vibration. During this disgraceful process, I was also told that the timing belt should be replaced, to which I acquiesced. Items like oil filter, oil, plugs etcetera were not included in the price that I paid to which I think is ridiculous. Gary speaks very well and appears to be educated in his business but at the end of the day my kindness was taken advantage of. There are other motor replacement companies out there. Don't be taken advantage of by this guy, you will regret it. Gary, I know you will respond back with bogus facts and will try to defend the shoddy work that you did, but you and I both know what you did. read more

Gary and his team went above and beyond replacing my bad engine and solved an unrelated vibration problem. They discovered a bad torque converter and fixed that too. That was after a transmission shop failed to find this problem. I am very satisfied and recommend Motorworks. read more

I'm a car guy so trusting mechanics is a big deal. My daughter needed a new engine in her 2010 Dodge Charger. Not only did they replace the engine they fixed her entire breaking system, and many electrical problems the car had. They even repaired some thing that another mechanic didn't even mention... and it was pretty obvious. They knew the car was being driven by my young daughter and they made sure that it was 100% safe for her to drive. Gary and his staff are the best.... I thought Motorworks had honest employees. But that appears to not be the case. The engine light came back on twice after having having engine work done on my 2014 Jeep Wrangler. I was told they didn't know why (even though the code was for a misfire) and they just reset it. When the light came on for a third time I didn't even bother calling them. I took it to a shop in my area, after they looked it over it appears motorworks crack the upper manifold and tried to repair it. After waiting and having my Ford Suv for more than 2 months and dealing with Car shield and getting no where I then brought it to Motorworks I dealt with Gary from beginning to end he took care of me and dealt with Car Shield who did not still warranty the engine but Motorworks was very reasonable and almost half then Ford dealer . They got the job done in around a week which Ford couldn't give me a time frame or told me 2 months or so . I had my hands tied and glad I used Motorworks and got the job done quickly and very fair price . Their customer service was great and after I brought back due to a check engine light that didn't pertain to them and they took time to troubleshoot . After having my Escalade serviced only at Cadillac for its entire lifetime the engine blew. They told me that engine replacement wasn't something they would handle at their shop. But thankfully they recommended Doug at Motorworks. Although the engine took a couple of months to get (no fault of theirs) they were upfront and honest about the timing, costs and expectations. My wife's car is back on the road and better than before. (They resolved some non engine issues as well) I would highly recommend using them. read more

This business lies about the way I was treated, he says i didn't bring the car back within the warranty period, but did and he didn't fix the problem that he caused and gave me the run around, I couldn't afford to pay for it again which was his only option and now I see my original complaint is no longer in his site. He made a mistake with my vehicle he was cousin to my best friend and my friends father was used in his comersials on TV but that didn't make a difference shortly after the car was home the antifreeze leaked out or was never fully filled and the car overheated but when I filled the it with fluid it leaked out again and over heated again. No bbusiness is perfect and are bound to make mistakes but instead of standing by his work even if it costs him his profit on this particular job he refused to fix the issue and totally did not stand by his work instead he blamed the customer and lied about the warranty time line in his rebuttal to my complaint. He may have done right by future customers but I can't explain why he did me wrong. The car was taken away by the wrecking company and was a total loss. read more

My regular shop finally confirmed the engine diagnostics after a tear down. It was a blown head gasket, that warped the head and perhaps the block. They wanted to install a high mileage used engine. Instead, Motorworks sourced out a low mileage replacement engine from one of their trusted suppliers. The Honda is back together and runs as good as it looks, even after it arrived in pieces from my regular shop. Read all the reviews and then just bring your vehicle to this place. STAY AWAY! These guys are lying shysters! First clue was when you click on "request a quote" with ALL the info on your car, and the guy keeps saying "call me". I finally DO call, and get quoted like $4800. The manager keeps saying over and over "The only parts we use off of the old engine are the intake manifold and the fuel injection "spider"." and "It takes 3 to 4 days, outside a week start to finish." I leave a deposit at the very end of October and Gary says "It takes 8 weeks for the engine to come in due to covid and driver shortages!" Ok, I figure probably after Christmas. No problem, the van is still running. He calls me on Wed. before Thanksgiving and says "Your engine is in! Bring it down!" I ask "It's the day before Thanksgiving! I can't get a car rental NOW!" "Ok, bring it in on Friday first thing so we can get started on it!" I drop off the van, along with a brand new radiator and fuel injection spider and rent a car for a week. The following Wednesday, I call to check on the progress. "The guy is taking it apart now!" I said "Just taking it apart NOW? You've had it for 5 working days, I've got a rental car the whole time and it HAS to go back on Friday!" He says "So what do you want me to say?" "Is the van going to be finished by Friday?" "No" "You TOLD me it would take 3 or 4 days outside a week! Now I've got to find ANOTHER rental for ANOTHER week?" "What do you want me to say?" (his favorite line) During the NEXT week, he says that the brand-spanking new radiator that I bought "is leaking like crazy!", and, of course, I have to buy a radiator from HIM, now. Then, the water pump is leaky, too, and the serpentine belt tensioner is shot, BOTH of which I had replaced within a 2 year period. "OK, fine! (He's got me by the balls now, with my car in pieces) REPLACE them, but I'm picking up that van on FRIDAY! It's been TWO weeks!" I show up on Friday, after returning the SECOND rental, and the van is running like a cement mixer! "It's a little rough." says Gary "Give my guys some time, and they'll figure it out." "FORGET IT! GIMME MY KEYS!" I take it back to my mechanic who finds out that when the idiot was plugging in the fuel injection unit, he bent the tiny pins. Problems over, right? 2 days later, the engine dies, and won't restart. Towed to mechanic. Besides no spark for the engine, various other seemingly unrelated things are happening at the same time. 2 days later, my mechanic finds a bundle of grounds at the rear of the engine were never tightened. Back on the road again. The next day, I drive halfway across Long Island to a mall, and suddenly I've enveloped in a cloud of steam. All of the coolant blew out, and refilling it it pours right out again. Towed BACK to the mechanic AGAIN. He shows me the shaped hose coming out of my brand new water pump to the heater core is on BACKWARDS, and rubbed a hole in itself against the crank pulley. I drive away again. 2 days later, I'm hearing this loud ticking noise in the engine. I immediately bring it to my mechanic who discovers that the grooved serpentine belt was put on crooked (off a notch on one pulley) and had sliced off about 1/5th of the brand new belt that was slapping the engine as it went around. "So, what do you want me to say?" Motorworks are lying sacks of shit that I wouldn't let work on a bicycle! BEWARE! read more

I recently had to have the engine replaced in my 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. I had the truck at my local mechanic and was given the "I really don't want to do it price" . I did a ton of research and got a number of prices. My research led me to Motorworks in Amityville and I am happy it did. They came back with the lowest price and the fastest turnaround time. I was very impressed with my salesman Doug. His courtesy, professionalism, knowledge about issues with my specific engine told me I made the right choice. Doug, Gary and the rest of the crew at Motorworks made the best of a bad situation. Doug took an "if it where mine" type of approach when looking at my Jeep, provided timely updates and a quick turn around. I came to him after being told my my local mechanic that i might have engine problems. He could have over sold me a big expensive motor job if he wanted to but didn't. Doug tested and found no immediate compression issues. I have no problem recommending Motorworks and will keep them in mind in the event I need anything in the future. read more

Save your self they redid my motor which took for ever then when i actually got it back the computer wasnt program correctly then when I called and fax them to fix it they told me it was my responsibility and they couldn't do anything for me maybe it's just me but isn't the place called Motor Works, than 19,000 miles later my engine was leaking from somewhere called again and they blew me off very unprofessional and don't stand by their work save your money save a headache find someone else read more

My 2000 XTera needed head gaskets The motor had 140 on it I wanted a rebuilt motor from a dealer They charged me over 5 grand for a motor that is running from day one just like my old motor it runs the same burning antifreeze I want to check the serial numbers to make sure its not my old motor.The warranty is short so they can screw you and not fix anything I would never bring my car their again or tell someone to go their ! read more

I'm not one to write reviews and had to create a Yelp account to write this but I felt obligated to. The people at Motorworks in Amityville were exceptional. I did a lot of research on the cost benefit analysis of replacing the engine in our 2003 Suburban (it has 174,000 miles and I have 5 boys, 3 who have learned to drive in it and 2 more to come) and decided to go with a remanufactured engine. Motorworks was by far was the most professional, informative, and pleasant of the many places I spoke to. The work was done just as they said it would be and they fixed several on going problems the car had. When I asked how they figured these problems that had not been solved after many trips to several dealers and garages, instead of pointing blame the shop calmly says that with the engine out we can see things that "would be difficult to see otherwise". Through a lot of the process I was at work and my wife delt with the shop. She is no car enthusiast and her comment was that they explained things so I could understand them easily. We have the car back after 5 days and it runs s beautifully, under the hood is looks brand new, it looks as if the exhaust manifolds were sand blasted, and I could not be happier. The whole process was pleasant and actually quite informative and done at a very fair price. I would highly recommend Motorworks of Amityville if you are contemplating any kind of engine rebuild. money shifted blew engine misfire on every cylinder. their diagnosis ? engine replacement @ 16 hours labor for a 4 cylinder acura rsx . i refused obvious gravy time. they charge me for a compression test as diagnosis cost billed as "diagnosis time" no test results compression test to diagnose a blown engine @ 2.25 hours for a compression test not a blown head gasket not burnt piston rings a money shifted blown engine which i told them about before hand it took them over 2 hours for a compression test on 4 cylinders to diagnose something i already told them about did they go inside the engine to see what was broken ? nope vanity cover still looks dirty as shit not even a single print what ? hahaha good one guys i like how you have no reviews on here and so many glowing reviews on google ;) check their bbb too they should just call them selfs engine swappers that take really, really, really, long or incompetent compression testers that take 2 hours to run 4 cylinders and can miraculously not disturb the film of dust i had on the vanity cover since my last tune up dont think they'll ever bother looking inside an engine to rebuild at all just recommend the easier swap billed at ridiculous amounts of time with an engine 100% over retail price and when you refuse ? bill them for a compression test ! yea! we needed a compression test to figure out you need complete replacement on an over reved engine ! what do you mean you could of just bent a valve, snapped a rod, cracked a piston ? nah not looking inside, just swap the whole thing out ! it's easier for us ! dont market yourself as rebuilders if you're just going to offer swaps any one can do swaps see my google review for more details! read more
