Went in today 9.12.2022 for car inspection and set of 4 tires replacement. Spoke to a heavy set Asian man, around 5'10", In his fifties with a gold chain around his neck, dressed casually, not in mechanic uniform. From his overall demeanors one can fairly assume he's an owner/partner there. Was initially told it will take 1.50 hours to get everything done, no issues there and was let in (the car) in less than a few minutes. One of their staff mechanics started on the vehicle inspection process, and I proceeded to inquire about the tires from this same gentleman (heavy set guy) , herein in will be referred to as HSG, as he led the way to show me the availability of tires. Note this HSG person did not once go near my car as it was undergoing the inspection process. Long story short, I found the tires this man quoted to be overpriced and as I returned to the actual mechanic who's completed the inspection with a PASS and the new sticker already put in its proper place on the interior side of the windshield adjacent to the registration sticker... I told the mechanic the new tires are overpriced and THAT'S when the HSG freaked out and ordered the mechanic to take down the PASS inspection sticker, and get rid of it. The mechanic replied "it's already on the glass". Was told then by HSG I need to replace at least 2 tires. WHAT??? NOW, taken by surprised in this whole ordeal I needed a couple of seconds to realize this craziness is actually happening, so I told the HSG "you passed the vehicle with the sticker already on, you can't do that (reference to what gross negligence he and mechanic had committed should they proceed to take down the sticker). As soon as I stated that, HSG ALTERED his tone and his employee to "just forget it, let him go, forget the tires." WTF happened to this place??? This used to be a decent auto shop you can go to without feeling like going into a shady gangsters paradise like back in the 90s. About 3-4 years ago you can go into the shop and get greeted by decent respectable mechanics, nowadays if you stay long enough it's just a whole lot of cursing in various Chinese dialect, usually from the single biggest loudest guy in the shop. New partnership, new management whatever you want to call it, if this place keeps going the way it's going they WILL lose tons of repeating customers like myself who has been going there for the past 10+ years. I ended up picking it up the following Monday, so it took about six business days, which wasn't too bad. My main concern was the lack of communication regarding the repair estimate. GEICO's initial estimate was $2,000. When I dropped off my car, I asked for a copy of the repair estimate but was told they didn't have one for me. When I picked up the vehicle, I learned the final repair cost was approximately $7,300. Although I only had to pay my deductible, I was surprised by the significant increase and would have appreciated more transparency and an explanation of the additional costs during the repair process. Overall, the staff was friendly and the repair work appears to have been done well, but better communication regarding estimates and supplemental charges would have made for a much better experience.

My Girlfriend has an SUV that has an alternator that was replaced less than a year ago by the…read moregarage down the street. I didn't care for their service for a number of reasons, although they seem to get only good reviews from locals. Maybe I'm surrounded by masochists and suckers. The alternator died on my birthday, taking the battery from the same garage with it. I tried not to let it ruin the day but it turned the event into a frustrating towing tour of garages in the queens area, a stay at a mirrored ceilinged room in a themed motor inn that became an obsession. (I have to get the room with the heart shaped hot tub pictured in the brochure and I will feel vindicated, the fool foolishly said in his darkened heart, unaware that apparently this room doesn't exist. And hasn't since 1996.) AAA roadside automated phone marathons kept things lively until we realized we had an alternator problem and the alternator had about a week left on the warranty. So my birthday became a catalyst that ended in a garage that I disliked and would never have gone back to, but it was going to be free work vs. the insane quotes some other garages were quoting. The AAA tow guy dropped off the busted down SUV for them to begin work on and they picked it up the following day. One week later and they've talked my girl into all new brakes and other brake related parts promising it's done you can pick it up tomorrow only to discover a new problem before it came time to pick it up. How can you miss that there's a broken axle when you're doing the brakes? How can an alternator covered under warranty become a 1600$ week long event? And when I went to pick up the car the guy tells me he did the alternator for free like it was a favor. It was under warranty and your shop installed it. Not to mention they wouldn't print up a copy of the brakes or new alternator warranty and the invoice for the brake work was all listed as having been done the same day I picked it up, but it had been a week. They closed on weekends. So we got a call Friday late afternoon saying they needed to do more work on it and then nothing. Closed Saturday. Closed Sunday. Tried to sell me on this broken back axle job but I wasn't having it. Just wanted to take it and go. So to make a longer story short and get to the reason I'm writing this in the first place, we had taken the SUV into another shop a year ago when the catalytic converter fell off. We thought it was bandits but bandits don't exist anymore. They've been replaced by morons who get together in one car with dealer plates and steal catalytic converters in Queens while people sleep. Whatever it was the garage we went to was Great Bear. I don't remember much about it but I can say that when we called today, the man we talked to, who was the owner was very helpful and told us to come down and he'd look at it for no charge and tell us what was up with the back axle and other problems we were being told was wrong with the car. So we went and they did as promised and didn't charge a dime and when they were done with it and brought it down off the lift, they told us there was nothing wrong with the back axle or anything else. Didn't try to sell us anything no pressure, and despite the fact that we weren't even at the location where the owner was, they still honored his promise, just honest guys who know the value of a man and keeping a man's word. They saved us close to a grand which is what we were quoted by this other garage to fix a problem that didn't exist. AND HERE COMES Nor-Great Neck Garage AGAIN entering in my car data on APR 4, 2025 , but THIS TIME entering in a Fake Odometer Mileage of 55,960 !! As of MAY 12th, 2024 my odometer is 133,335 miles. I have had to leave my cars there for a few days while they were being serviced and he always gives me updates. He even calls my husband to fill him in as well! The most recent time my car was serviced I was quoted $3000 (brakes, rotors, air hose, etc) on LI and Jason did the same work for MUCH less than that. He even showed me the parts that he replaced to assure me that he wasn't running game. He even found another hose that needed to be replaced that the last mechanic didn't mention to me and replaced it for free. Jason and his crew now service all my vehicles and my dad's. Between us we have a Corolla, Camry, BMW X5 & Dodge Durango and they do it all. If you don't live in Queens it's definitely worth the trip or phone call!
