Sad, out-of-date exercise in time-warp entertainment. Great history lesson of what follies show used to be in the '60s and '70s. Take your 85+ year-old former-marine great-grandfather and order a bottle of cheap-ass sparkling wine.
### This is *NOT* the Moulin Rouge that was set in the recent Hollywood movie. There are no modern outfits, or sultry dark shadowy figures. If I hadn't seen that movie, my expectations would have been considerably lower. But then I probably wouldn't have gone, either. :/
### horrible line management. Wait in line outside, check your tickets to walk inside, up stairs, be checked again, bags checked, walk to the back to a very old performance hall, be jammed into a room waiting to be let in (no line, just a big mess, so everyone crowds and pushes when it's time to go in), then be herded back out, down the steps, through a small corridor, up more steps, tickets and bags checked again, through more doors, then tickets checked again before you finally are led across the room to your table. FOCK OFF. How do you expect my 94-year-old former-marine great-grandfather to make it??!!
### listen to the GODDAM pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop of the bottle corks going off all over the room. Worst trick in the book. "Look, everyone's doing it! We should have some "champagne" too!"
+++ a dream come true for a budding drag queen performer.
All the fantastic bits of old follies you could hope for:
* marvelous big headdress pieces with feathers
* fuzzy boas with remote-controlled Christmas-lights inside them.
* male dancers in sequined jackets and pants
* penguin waiters in black bow ties and white shirts.
* red lighting everywhere
* old-school white-tablecloth banquet dining seating in multiple levels. Everyone has a good seat and a good view of the stage
* one mustn't forget the boobies. Boobies, boobies, boobies everywhere.
* and you MUST have a giant staircase that drops from the ceiling and hordes of dancers descend in sparkly splendor. Yes! They have it!
But the music.
### Fock, the music. The most recent bit was "I Will Survive" from 1978.
## think disco with orchestra tracks from the early 1970s
And the dancing.
# most of the time, the routines are off-cue and out of synch.
How many times have they done this show, and someone isn't kicking their butts to get it together?
# tired, lazy, stompy entrances and exits. Not elegant.
## they're not all smiling. It's part of the focking uniform. SMILE beeyotches! read more
