I didn't realize it until I went again last night, but I've actually been to this theater a couple…read moreof times before... it just wasn't under the auspices of Illusion Theater at the time. The Illusion Theater is housed on the 8th floor of the Hennepin Center for the Arts, which is also home to Zenon Dance Company, Minneapolis Musical Theatre, and many other performing art companies. The building itself was constructed in 1888 and originally housed a Masonic Temple; it now appears on the National Register of Historic Places and is a beautiful example of preserving architectural gems for functional use. The stage at the Illusion is an "end-on" or proscenium space with audience members facing the performance straight on. Seats are ample and comfortable; the area for those using a wheelchair is convenient and easy to access. There's plenty of parking around the theater, but if there's an event going on in the area, look for parking east of Hennepin--you'll save a bundle. On our recent visit, the surface parking lots around the theater were charging $14; just a block away we scored enclosed parking at the 50 South Sixth Street ramp for only five bucks.

The space is perfect - small enough to feel intimate and personal, but large enough to be able to score tickets. The interior is quite understated (read: a bit outdated) but charmingly quaint. A couple of cons: Audiovisual work is quite sub-par. The projection for the show was blurry and dark. Also the drinks are over priced for the service size. All in all, it's a cute hometown theater that deserves patronage for their commitment to local talent. I'll be back.

Incredible Art Deco interior that will occupy your mind while you are waiting in quiet desperation for the act you came to see. Beer, wine and a limited bar offers the patrons something to enjoy your event with. The audio is generally pretty good, depending on where you sit. The seats are extremely tight, not much leg room and a bit uncomfortable after a while. I feel like the guides weren't very helpful at getting people to their seats. I I'm still not sure where they label the sections, I had to ask several people and that made some other people realize they were in the wrong seats/section. The lobby opens 1 hr before the show but the doors to be seated don't open until 30 min prior. I suggest getting there 15-20 min before the show starts for smoother entry. You will still have time to grab a drink and find your seats without the hassle of the pre show crowd. It was so chaotic. The drinks are spendy for what you get but they don't take tips so I guess it somewhat evens out. You can request a lid for your drink which for me is a must in these crowded spaces. Not my fav theatre but the if there's a play I'd like to see, I'd go here!

Seating is excellent... not a bad seat in the house. I didn't know photos weren't allowed, the one picture I took and posted of the set was when I walked in. Oops I turned off my phone after that was announced. I loved the play and the theater. I plan to come back again and again! From the street the theater is part of a strip mall on Osseo and isn't anything remarkable. Parking is plentiful and fairly well lit. The theater still requires proof of vac, and that patrons wear masks. Being in a high risk category, I appreciate the precautions! Yellow Tree is a great local theater worthy of your attention! The restrooms were clean when I visited at the start of the evening. I'd come back for shows considering it's so small. The only complaint, exit was slow and crowded even though there were plenty of exit options but they were kept close, leaving one bottle-neck exit out the main doors.

The theater is located in downtown Saint Paul with lots of neighboring restaurants and bars if you want to pre or post show party. There is no designated parking area but there is paid street parking (free on Sundays and after 10pm) as well as plenty of paid parking lots and ramps nearby. There is a slightly raised platform with a railing that I always try to snag a spot at as it offers a great view (especially for us short people). Most of my pics are taken from that exact spot. The floor can get pretty cramped but most of the crowds I've encountered have been very friendly. The theater itself is old but beautiful. The upstairs area shows exposed beams and bricks which I think adds to the charm!

I may have an above-average tolerance for more modest community theater productions, but I still think you can always expect the utmost professionalism from Artistry. They routinely mount productions that are both ambitious and crowd-pleasing. It is normal for them to put on four musicals each year, shows with large casts and which demand real skill from the performers. They pull off shows with enormous scope, like Les Miserables, and ones which hinge on intense performances, like All My Sons and Doubt. They do succeed with dramas like that, but the musicals are the flagship productions, and the work done by the singers and orchestra is particularly impressive. (The musicals are very popular, so get your tickets early.) They have two stages; a proscenium theater with a really wide stage, and a small black box theater. The width of the proscenium stage allows them to fit a lot of seats without any that are very far away. But there's no center aisle so it's very normal to skooch past a lot of people to get to your seat. The black box house is more intimate, but has pretty uncomfortable seats. Artistry is right to be proud of the work they do on those two stages, and if you want to see some theater with minimal mediocrity, plenty of polish, and a zeal to connect to the audience, these guys gotchoo.

While I have so many old pictures from 2011-2016, I will refrain from going back into the archives. Rather, I will speak towards my most recent 2025 visit as it's been a blast seeing the transformation. Pros: free easy parking, tickets can be purchased online with options for fast passes (a touch more expensive) which skip the line. Very well oiled staff who understand the importance of parking assistance, ticket services, line movement, hayride safety rules, concession stands, etc. Fun ambiance - giant chair to take photos in, gift shop, spooky fun music, concessions, and weekend beer garden. Variety - main process is to attend both a haunted house and hayride. You do have the option to do less or skip one (some people are fearful of 1 vs. the other) My biggest giggle is now that I'm older, I'm not as afraid. When I was younger, I used to think the Hayride was so scary but as time has passed, it was more laughable this year. I appreciate the efforts but everything was so predictable and the chainsaw skit hasn't changed (I don't want it to either - just repeated acting). Thank you to the staff, actors, actresses, etc. who keeps this running year over year! It's truly historic and nostalgic for me. I look forward to next year in 2026. Happy spooky season!

A girl in front of us was too scared and they let her out a side door so there is a way out if you don't like it! I gave it a 9 because the hayride wasn't as scary. Loved the set ups but they could have used more actors. There are different ticket options- 1. general admission (GA) haunted house and hayride 2. Fast lane- both with faster lines 3. VIP- Haunted house, hayride and Massacre (where they can touch you and it's in a corn field) plus shorter lines! We did GA and didn't wait too long. I thought the price was reasonable! It's also cheaper to buy online. We got there at 6:30pm so the lines weren't long and didn't have to wait. Highly recommend! It got really busy around 8pm. They have concessions, food trucks and everything is affordable. I attached pics of food options and pricing. **They only serve alcohol on Fridays and Saturdays** Plenty of porta potties and parking - parking is free! There were the cutest goats you can pet, pumpkins, mums and a cute store you can find decor, jams, etc. There was a psychic reader booth but they weren't there when we were there. $20 for a reading We talked to one of the owners. He was very nice and you could tell he enjoyed his job! All of the staff were nice! Next year is their 40th year so he said they are going to make it extra special! Definitely plan on going back next year!
