I didn't realize this theater was different than the Minnesota history Museum. We just saw the Glenn Sheen mansion production, which was clever and cheeky and fun! The actors and actresses were top notch. I could not believe the voices! Incredible! The venue is large and has an upper balcony. It can fit a lot of people and it seems like every seat in the house is a good one. But definitely will go back for another show!!

For my first visit to the History Theater I saw I Am Betty. What a fun show. Plays about history are such a fun way to learn. The acting and singing was well done. We sat in the first row of the balcony which was a perfect spot. The theater is small enough so there really isn't a bad seat. We parked about 5 blocks away because I had contracted parking in a ramp but there are plenty of ramps closer to the venue. There is also some on street parking that seemed to be two hour limit which may not be enough for most productions. Concessions were available but I didn't try anything. Staff was helpful.

We were lucky enough to attend the opening night performance of "I Am Betty". It was our first show at the History Theater and what a wonderful introduction! The show is wonderful, we will be encouraging everyone to go and see it. And the History Theater is such a gem! So thankful to live in a community with such a wide-ranging art scene. Can't wait to go again!

This theatre hosted Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show" when it was in the Twin Cities for the Republican National Convention. The space is really cool, it seats about 600 people and there is a thrust stage (semi-circle just like the Guthrie's famous Wurtele Thrust) so no matter what side you sit on you can see the action. There was an attached parking lot, which is a huge bonus in cold Minnesota. The show I saw was the Christmas show produced by the History Theatre, which was a musical. The singers were excellent, but the best part was that it was like going back in time to see St. Paul a long time ago.

My favorite play of all time was about two Supreme Court justices, Harry Blackmun and Warren Burger called Courting Harry.

How have I never reviewed the Ordway?! I come here often enough and for long enough…read more This is one of my favorite venues in the Twin Cities for theater. Seats are comfortable and have good leg room and not really a bad seat in the place. I also love the addition of the concert hall for smaller events. Staff are always helpful and friendly. The bars always do a fun drink that rotates for the show at the time. Do yourself a favor and pre-order a drink for intermission if you plan to have refreshments at that time. The one drawback here is parking. The ramps aren't super close (although, they're within an easy walk) and street parking in this area is always chaos, so give yourself plenty of time before your show to find space. If you haven't had the chance to enjoy and event here, get yourself to the Ordway!

We've been coming to the Ordway for years! It's definitely my preferred theater in the Cities!…read more Parking is a bit of a toss-up...here are my go-tos: hope for a miracle and get street parking, pay a little more and get a spot in a nearby garage, get a bite beforehand at the St. Paul Grill and use their Valet :) The space itself is very modern and clean! I actually like that it is updated and not a "historic" theater. You don't have steep staircases, old bathrooms, or impossibly tight leg room! Tickets are usually reasonably priced, and my favorite "cheat code" is to buy the "limited view" seats in the front corners, as they are significantly discounted, and often only have a minimal disruption in the view. Staff is always friendly and excited to welcome you to the show! They have snacks, coffee, and alcoholic drinks available for purchase, but often frown upon you bringing it into the theater with you, so plan ahead and get there before the show to enjoy!

The performers did a fantastic job blending humor and audience participation, making it an unforgettable night. Brian, the actors, along with the staff at the Sheraton in Bloomington worked so well together, you would have thought they were one! We had had a terrible experience trying to deal with a different company originally and we ended up having to find another company and I am so so glad we found the Mystery Cafe. First off, Brian, who is the owner, was just fantastic all around, responsive, accommodating, kind, and organized. The night of the actual performance, I did not feel nervous at all, he and I had communicated multiple times and also already tested all of the electronics weeks prior to the event, it went off without a hitch. It was fun because it did require audience participation, but it was not too high pressure and they made the atmosphere just so light and exciting and it was FUNNY! There was so much humor and I found myself laughing a lot more than I had thought that I would. 10/10 would recommend. They came to our event, there were 3 actors and I must say, I think that the cost was very fair and reasonable. Great time!
