This place is horrible! They do not care about their patients! They do not listen to their patients. They do not ask about medical history, medications or diagnosis. Instead, they will prescribe old outdated drugs like Depakote, instead of the much newer drugs on the market. Without asking or consulting with you personally. They are currently being federally investigated for lengthy patient hospital stays and billing practices! This place is ran by Acadia Health. They partnered with Trinity Health to use the Mt. Carmel name. This is very deceiving. You will NOT get the same good quality of care! Communication between patient and caregivers is terrible. They won't tell you anything, even if you ask repeatedly. Instead, they act like they don't hear you. I asked,pleaded and begged to be sent out to Mt. Carmel East for testing due to severe lower back pain. It was very debilitating and I was in severe pain the whole time I was there. They denied my request to be sent out. After discharge I went to a local hospital emergency room for an MRI and other testing and was diagnosed with severe spinal stenosis and this place denied me medical care. It is so severe that I will be needing surgery and they totally ignored my requests when I could hardly walk or get around. Terrible place! Don't come here or you will regret it. The staff is abusive toward patients!! If you ask questions and cause too much of a problem you will be sedated against your will. They sent a whole group of medical staff into my room and held me down against my will and sedated me for several days in a row. I'm assuming because I asked questions and they never acknowledged me so I acted out. One worker (a very heavy male attendant) bent my right wrist back so far I thought he was breaking it. VERY ABUSIVE TOWARD PATIENTS. The doctor and staff do not care about your medical history or your well being. They are in it to bilk your insurance company for every penny they can get. Don't expect to get outta here anytime soon! They will keep you 8-12 days minimum. Which is way longer then the average stay at other behavioral units in the city. Go elsewhere, you won't be treated like a human being here! THIS PLACE NEEDS SHUT DOWN! I have already filed a complaint w/my health care provider and contiplating filing complaints with The Mental Health and Addiction Board and Ohio Dept of Health. They need to know exactly what's going on in this sh*t hole place. read more

This is a prison, do NOT go here. My wrist is bruised horribly from the tracker they put on way too tight and didn't fix until my 5th day in despite me pleading multiple times and them even noticing it as well as it was put on backwards so every 15 minutes all night when they did checks, I was woken up so it could sync with their iPads. Coffee was only offered with their disgusting meals and water was locked up and had to be requested. The TV remote was also held at the nurse's station and had to be returned immediately once a channel was selected. It was freezing cold at all times. There was one clock in the entire unit at the nurse's station, so we never knew what time it was as we were not allowed out of our rooms between 10 pm and 7 am. There was no individual therapy and the group therapy sessions were inconsistent, disorganized and worthless. Most of the staff besides Brandy was careless - so careless in fact that a patient in my unit named Joel Gullet died and they didn't even realize it until the next day. It was horrifying to the patients in my unit and I still can't wrap my mind around it. I was initially put in unit 200 because the "normal" units didn't have room and there were violent people there who literally said they were psychopaths. No one would tell me when I could leave. I am beyond traumatized and could go on and on. I'm shocked they haven't been shut down. read more

If there was a number less than 1 I would have given it !~ Mt sister went to Mt Carmel with a panic attack and was held against her will for 3 days , oh but weekends dont count so it became 5 days . The communication was horrific , Noone EVER answers the phone , Noone EVER calls back if you leave a message , I called to check on my sister 8 times and got NO answer , I left 8 messages to call me back and got NO call backs . Wow where do I start? First off they take your clothes and make you wear paper clothes and underwear. They say they have to wash your clothes, but a lot of times you don't get them back and their lost. I have open wounds on both of my feet, and I am diabetic. The doctor told me I could get my feet wet. I ended up with an infection from the shower room in my feet. The facility doctor put me on bactrim when it says in my chart I am allergic to sulfa. So my stomach was killing me and I was not able to eat. They're go to drug is atarax. I already take that three times a day at a higher dose, so the one small pill they gave me was not going to do the trick. I was here to get over a benzo withdrawal that my family doctor put me in. I was trying to work things out in my head. I was already committed and signed in for 7 days, when they told me that they would not give me the Klonopin, which sent me into withdrawal again!!!! But I was stuck! I was put on a couple different medicines, which actually made the anxiety worse, and my discharge paperwork was all confusing and messed up. They had even taken me off of my blood pressure medicine, who knows why, and I was having really high blood pressures. You're locked down and stripped of everything, and all you can do is color like a 5-year-old. If you have mental health problems you are trying to deal with, don't put yourself into this prison. They really didn't do anything for me to make me progress further. So it was a waste of time, a new foot infection, and the wrong meds which friended me in the hospital again! Everyone's situation is different, but this was not the place for me. Some of the nurses are rude and hide in the med room and play on their phones. Some of them do it right in front of you and just ignore you. The techs are on a power trip. You're not even allowed to have your personal care products. You have to ask for your bucket when you want something and then they lock it right back up. Then act like it's killing them to give you those supplies that they took from you to begin with. Mt. Carmel Behavioral Health 4646 Hilton Court Drive Columbus, Ohio 43232 As a recent patient at the Columbus facility, I know there is much room for improvement. I fortunately found a medication professional named Steve, who was terrific! Honestly, the doctors and nurses are so short-staffed that I almost felt sorry for them. That being said, the shadiness of the "Techs, " along with their ability to somehow play Five Finger Lift Off, AKA steal from patients' belongings, was quite upsetting. I witnessed this firsthand with three particular "Tech" and one RN who thought it would be perfectly fine to steal your patient's cigarettes, and I'm not the only one who witnessed this. On approaching the nursing station one evening in search of Tylenol, I heard audible sounds being played from the RN's phone. It sounded sexual. I'm unsure why staff members can bring their phones onto the unit. I feel this violates my HIPAA Rights Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act. I witnessed this and watched them regularly load backpacks with storage supplies that left the premises. I will not call out names only if requested. There are several good "Techs," which I will call out Netty. This particular lady ran circles around four other "Techs." One RN found that the night shift was solely for sleeping, leaving his colleague in a terrible position. I don't mean to offend the kitchen staff, but that food leaves much to be desired. I lost 4 lbs in 10 days. I believe I saw numerous infractions, but I will keep those to myself without knowing your policy and procedures. read more

The reviews about this facility has me mortified and scared for my daughter who is currently a patient there. She was transported from Mount Carmel Hospital admitted Saturday. Upon arriving she suffered an acute asthma attack and was not, to my knowledge of writing this, given any medication or checked by the nurses on staff there. I was on the phone with her and can literally hear her wheezing and struggling to breathe properly. I heard her ask about three staff members if she could have her inhaler which was stored in her backpack. I heard each of them say that they would have to consult the nurse. Finally after several attempts, a staff member told her they don't give out medicine there. She however was able to receive a preventive medicine, which by the way does not help acute asthma attacks, she had in her backpack, She was diagnosed at ten moths old where she almost died due to an attack. She also told me that the staff was very rude and dismissive of her needs, that the food is horrible and they only gave her a minimum amount. I'm not sure how people can be in the medical field where they are expected to show empathy and compassion for the people in their care, but is lacking in those areas. I understand certain protocols has to be adhered to, but the patients there are human, have rights, deserves to be respected, protected and treated humanly. If it were a dog or a cat, I'm sure they would receive the best care and attention. Today is Sunday. I'm counting the days for when she is released from that hell hole! And the staff that looks like her should be a shamed! read more

The help you're suppose to receive from mt. Carmel you would think is suppose to be exceptional however this place is the total opposite. My child was sent here for help and counseling instead was put in a room and got medication. No counselor no doctor get her 1:1 medical counseling or help. This place is a joke. Don't go here if you're seeking help. The staff is not helpful either and seemed to hire anyone on the street. read more

i should have sued . i was sexually adult ed by another patient and basically got laughed at. left to sit in my own period blood because i only needed "one tampon per day" and then when i was crying a staff member threw a tampon at my head and called me a bitch , i was bullied by staff , so so bad . please keep in mind i am a nice , quiet people pleaser , i did nothing to them , i came out with so much more trauma , PLEASE don't go here . read more

My brother was admitted here for 1 week during a psychotic manic episode of his Bipolar and the communication from the medical team was awful. He was transported there from the Mount Carmel ER on a Thursday evening and I was not able to get confirmation that he was even there and safe until Monday evening. After leaving at least 10 voicemails with every person possible, no one ever called me back all weekend. During his 1 week stay, I was only able to talk with a nurse twice while he was there. The nurse practitioner managing him never called me after multiple attempts to speak with her. Even leaving a voicemail with the chief nursing officer who never called me back either. The nurse I spoke to at his discharge was so rude and short with me, providing me only the bare minimum information to be able to help my brother after discharge. Being a nurse myself I may have higher standards, but the lack of updates to family members was unacceptable. I would not recommend this facility to anyone! read more

My name is Christina Ratliff and I have mental health. I've been fighting depression anxiety since I was little to tell my story on Redemption and being saved on October 28th. I voluntarily went into my local hospital for a spiritual panic attack if they were doing their jobs they would have got me a preacher and ended up getting pink listed for evaluation for 72 hours to Mount Carmel Behavioral Health in Columbus Ohio on October 29th at 2:33 p.m. but they kept me for 16 days against my will. they wouldn't let me go and they never got a court order to keep me there they kept on jacking me up with medicine I wasn't no harm to myself or anybody else if people know me I'm a caring and I did not feel right on how they treated me and I'm a different person now I have trauma they didn't offer me counseling or therapy the whole time I even asked for a preacher a couple of times as well I was in there and I think they should pay and make sure that nothing like this is happening to somebody else I'm not the greatest at grammar and punctuation they wouldn't read any laws to me or the rules what about the sixth or seventh day I got sexually assaulted it took me a day or so to get off of medicine for me to tell them that I was having some bleeding and I was concerned and then I realized about the situation that happened with the guy with the tattoos on his face and act like he was gangster kind of scared my life they sent me to Mount Carmel East for a rape kit and never did the rape kit got me back to Mount Carmel Behavioral Health in less than 30 minutes after I was getting ready to sign over my rights I don't know if they were covering up something possible then they told me I need to take more medicine and they shot me up with a visceral and I was there for a couple more days I didn't get out of there November 13th told him I couldn't read and they didn't care something needs to be done so this doesn't happen to anybody else because in this world right now and it's causing a bunch of Mental Health and people are going to rely on a facility like this to get help and they're just going to make them worse by testing medicine and trying to get their insurance money because I only seen the doctor for 20 minutes out of 16 days and they go and diagnose me a schizophrenia that medicine cause me that I was having religious spiritual stuff happening I mean the whole time I was in there I felt like we need a God more than anything right now to play the game of life so I'm asking you today to give light about how we need to make sure that behavioral health facilities are actually doing their jobs for those that want to get help not forcing them to stay to test their medicine and get money because it's like $990 a day to stay in there and I was there for 16 days will I have Medicaid and cording to my insurance they only billed me for the 7th and I never got a bill so I was kind of confused a bunch of guys it was a complete joke and it didn't break me I feel like it made me more grateful and thankful that I had Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit on my side the whole time I was in there. They provide inhumane treatment. My wife was admitted on a Thursday evening, we were told by the hospital that admitted her there, and in a pamphlet they provided, that visitation was every day 7:30 to 8:30 PM. So we got there Friday at 7 pm and were told no visitation due to Covid! On 3/31/2022! We brought her clothes and some toiletries at that time. She kept asking about them and they kept telling her it takes about five days to go through things brought in to check for strings, wires etc! In the meantime, they left her in the intake hospital robe from Thursday night until Sunday with no toiletries! Not even a clean robe, the same robe! Sunday was the only day I was able to get through on their telephone number! The rest of the time your gave to leave a voicemail so nobody will call you back! When she called me Sunday, I discussed suing them for inhumane treatment and five minutes later, she got most of the clothes I brought in and some toiletries! She never met with a psychiatrist and was sent home with discharge instructions to go to a walk in psychiatric facility called southeast!
