This cemetery serves the small community of McDade. There are quite a number of headstones from the turn of the 20th century, but there are many newer ones, including some very recent burials. For the most part, the headstones are neatly arranged in columns with designated family plots and there is a gravel road with a few entry points. This is still an active cemetery with several new recent interments and there's plenty of room at the rear of the cemetery to accommodate hundreds more. The cemetery seems to be relatively well cared for although there are some toppled stones within the 6-8 acre property. The oldest headstone that I could find was from 1904. There are quite a number of service members buried here, including a confederate one. After looking at the headstones, I did not spot any particularly notable names of local Texas history.

Most of the graves that sit within this 2 to 3 acre enclosure are primarily from the 20th century and later. There are a handful of stones from the 1800s. This is still a very active cemetery with many well adorned gravesites from the surviving family members. The cemetery looks relatively well-maintained although a handful of older headstones are lying on their sides. There is still some space for future interments, but it is mostly full. There are three entrances to the property with a single gravel lane winding through the property. For the most part the graves are laid out in neat rows and some family plot areas, but there is still a little bit of randomness in some of the graves as to how they fit in. I did spot three historical names here that are tied to Austin/Round Rock history. There were several graves dedicated to the name Gattis (Gattis School Rd) and Boatright and at least one to Bohls. The Boatright name seemed to be the most prominent name in the cemetery. Two other names that I found in number here are Templeton and Summers. There are some service members buried here along with 3 confederate soldiers, 2 of them are of the Boatright name. If you're looking for a forever home or just want to check out some names of history, this place is worth a visit.

As the name of this cemetery implies, its residents are almost entirely Hispanic. The majority of the graves are from the latter part of the 20th century and many are from the last 20 years. The oldest headstones that I could find dated from the 1940s. The good news is that if you're looking for your forever home, there's still room available here. Not only is this still an active cemetery, but it's quite clear that many surviving family members continue take care of the graves of their loved ones. The photos below clearly show their devotion.

I almost gave up looking for this cemetery because of its remote location. Google maps has it at…read moreone location when in reality it's almost a quarter of a mile away. It's very close to Highway 20 and Shiloh Road, which is just on the outskirts of Bastrop, Texas. In order to find it, you'll have to turn into a school parking lot and then very quickly veer left onto a single lane dirt road and follow it about 1000 feet until you arrive. This is still very much an active cemetery for the local residents. It sits on about 3 to 5 acres and still has additional room in case you're interested. After scanning many of the headstones, it is primarily an African-American cemetery judging by the headstones and porcelain portraits affixed to those markers. It has a single gravel road that dead ends at the back of the cemetery. There's a lot of randomness as to how the graves are arranged with lots of flowers left by loved ones. I did not spot any headstones from the 1800s, the vast majority are from the latter part of the 20th century and on. There were a few service members buried here and most of the graves have granite headstones, but some are in the cheaper cast concrete. It's a quiet place, but you can still hear the traffic on Highway 20 not far away.

The road that leads to the cemetery entrance is run down with some homeless encampments along it. There are about six parking spaces and you can actually drive into the cemetery itself. The one thing that I noticed that was conspicuously absent was a Texas historical sign which you would normally see at older graveyards like this. The cemetery would've been located on the outskirts of Austin in the 1800s, but is of course now surrounded by urban growth. There are quite a number of graves from the 1800s but there are recent burials as well. It is relatively well-maintained and there was even an information booth explaining who is buried where. This cemetery appears to be about 5 acres in size and has hundreds of graves. Many of the graves are from the turn of the 20th century or before, but there are a handful of newer ones. I did find a couple of graves from 2020. Despite looking pretty full, it appears there is still room for those who would like to be interred here. Plenty of pictures below with more information.

This is another one of those middle of nowhere cemeteries located on FM 916. There are quite a…read morenumber of headstones from late 1800's and I spotted a few Woodmen of the world markers as well. There is a Texas historical sign next to the entrance and provides some very informative historical information concerning this property. The Cemetery is about 5 acres in size surrounded entirely by farmland and appears to have plenty of space for future interments. The nice thing about this cemetery is the fact that it has been well-maintained and manicured with virtually no fallen headstones. I did come across some Westbrook graves of which I'm sure are related to the ones interred at the Westbrook Memorial Gardens about 10 miles away in Elgin (see separate review). If you're a local history buff, this may be a worthy stop for you. Plenty of photos included in this review to round out the story.

There is a short driveway next to McKenna Lane which fits one car in front of the gate, but no road in. There is a small Texas historical sign at the front gate and a kiosk on the property with family photos enshrined. The layout of the less than two dozen graves is in some order and they are almost all buried on the summit of the hill. Further back on the property, I did find a few more, including the grave of Robert Tarleton, whose headstone was cast in concrete and who died in 1949. Almost all of the graves are primitive in their construction consisting mostly of just simple bricks and stone. Some markers are cast in concrete, which is cheaper, but the rest are in granite. There were a few unmarked graves as well. Informative photos included, which will also be posted to Google maps.

The cemetery is located a couple of hundred yards behind the KIPP school buildings just off FM 969…read more You'll have to park in the CPS parking lot and then walk 500 feet across a soccer field to get to the gate. The small 1 acre cemetery site sits on a sloping hill with a great view of the Austin skyline. Behind the cemetery are many acres of undeveloped land at this point. What is interesting about this cemetery is that there are no headstones above ground. All the headstones lay flush to the ground for mowing purposes, and after walking the property, I counted close to about 100 headstones or more. The majority of them sit on the east side and they are predominantly from the early to late 1960s. The graves on the west side are from the 70s through the 90s. The markers from before 1970 are cast in concrete (found a couple in granite in 60's) while those after 1970 are chiseled in granite. The ages of the decedents here vary from the young to the old. This may no longer be an active graveyard since the last head stone was laid in 2002. The photos in this review tell the rest of the story.
