This small intimate Montessori school is a gem. A bit off the beaten path in a more business-type area, it is an oasis, with large grounds, animals, beehives, sheep, turkeys. Very tranquil setting for students who need that. The class sizes vary but are small. Ethnically, it is diverse. It shares the campus with a convent, but I seldom have seen nuns. We had an amazing experience with the Toddler Montessori program for our son. I saw such positive changes in him after only one month. He followed directions better, was more independent, and sometimes did not want to leave school! You can really tell that all of the staff truly care about each child and their family. I went to Mt Saint Michael's in 1970. it was a boarding school at the time. I loved it. I know some other girls weren't thrilled but I have fond memories of my time there. We went on field trips to a lot of places. Yes we did work in the laundry but it was my first work experience for the real world. read more

I was at Mt St Michaels School for Wayward Girls in 1964 when I was 14 My father on his deathbed called me to apologize for driving me from Houston to Dallas and leaving me at this horrible place...if you were there I slit my wrist to be sent home it was a tiny cut but it got me back home I refused to work in the laundry because I had seizures The education was sorely inadequate The nuns were not nice and there were bars on the windows I was miserable and I missed my 4 brothers and 2 sisters I was made to be an example if you talked back to an angry abusive mother and still I preferred her to the school I too feel that the history of this prison school should not be forgotten by the Catholics I also bear scars from my time there both physically and emotionally A nun was going to hit me with a metal radiator brush and I told her if she did I would knock her down the stairs so I got locked in the typing room overnight It was just not a good place to be an awful experience I am sorry for any girl who went through this school read more

Mount St. Michael Catholic School (MSMCS) is an amazing school, a hidden gem in the DFW area. I have been a teacher at MSMCS for over 25 years and a part of the school community since it began in 1986. This is truly my family and I cannot imagine teaching anywhere else. The academics are rigorous following the Montessori (18 months - 5 years old) and Classical (1st-8th Grades) Pedagogies. The teachers and staff feel as if this is a vocation, not just a job. They care for each student and goes above and beyond to work with their students to succeed. The focus to help each student succeed and to reason clearly, choose morally, and serve faithfully. The average class size is about 12 students, which helps give more attention to the needs of each student. A focus of the school is "more green time and less screen time", which is seen through the Agricultural Studies program and the many outdoor learning classrooms. MSMCS is a faith-based school with daily Mass, monthly confessions and Adoration. It is truly a special place. I have read the reviews that are posted here and need to comment on the negative postings. I am truly sorry for the memories and ways that some of the girls were treated when they attended the Boarding School on the campus of Mount St. Michael. The Boarding school closed in the late 70s. The current school, Mount St. Michael Catholic School is NOT the same school as it was in the 1940s-1970s. Wonderful program! Our 3 year old is so so excited to go to school each day, and we are so grateful to have found a Catholic school that is steeped in the faith. Even the preschool students attend mass, catechesis of the Good Shepherd, and participate in the Angelus each day. read more

Worst of the Worst ... i was there late 60's early 70's Hell Hole it was. Working in a laundry (underage) not getting any kind of compensation but 3 meals a day and a so called education guess it was more like a prison than a boarding school. read more

I was sent here in the early 70s... What a horrible place... What horrible people. I was already a very disturbed teenager and they only made it worse. It took me decades to get over their abuse. It was similar to the Borg... It was futile to resist. Very abusive to the girls who were made to live there. It was basically a state-sanctioned detention center!! read more

I remember Mt St Micheals as a torture chamber for young girls. Yes this was an all girls school only! this is how the day started: We woke very early from our dormitory and dressed in our uniforms. Then went down to breakfast and after we either worked half day in a hot laundry for no money , had lunch and went to our classrooms. Of all the nuns there there were two that I remember and of those two, I remember only one being a v sweet woman who recently as 2018 answered the phone and i spoke to for a few minutes. I gave it a one star to be able to post. not because it deserves it I hope it has changed. If not i would not encourage anyone to take your child there.. read more

I am relieved to see the other reviews here. Every once in a while I would look for info online corroborating my experience, and I have finally found it here. Saddening and validating at the same time. I was sent there in the early 60s and it was like a prison. Abusive. Hit with sticks by nuns. Made to squat in the hall till muscles cramp and spasm then hit with a stick if I fell from my squat. Breakfast was toast that had been toasted the night before with peanut butter. The meals were horrendous. We were treated like slaves forced to work in an in air conditioned laundry doing sheets and towels for hotels. I was 14 working a huge, hot iron press. I escaped, was caught and sent back. Ran away again and never went home. Lived on the streets or stayed with friends. read more

This place has a history that they don't write about. I was sent here in 1967 and it was a NIGHTMARE. It was a girls boarding school back then for troubled teens. I had to work half a day in an un-airconditioned laundry. The nuns were mean as hell except for a few. I felt like a slave while I was there...thankfully I only spent one year there. I have been a parent of children at Mount Saint Michael Catholic school for 9 years. From my first meeting at Mount Saint Michael I knew it was a special place, guided by a deep and profound faith in and love of Christ and a commitment to educate and form their students with that faith and love as the guiding principle. The spirituality there was unique among other Catholic schools I had visited. The classical liberal arts curriculum is superb and a perfect complement to the faith formation. My children have grown and thrived at the school, learning how to think critically about the world around them, informed with an historical perspective that gives them a deeper understanding of themselves, their faith, and ultimately their vocation in the world. With 5 children now attending Mount St. Michael, I feel continually blessed by this community of committed parents, teachers, and staff and have seen the fruits of their education and faith formation in countless ways over the years. This is our first year at Mount St. Michael Catholic School and we could not be happier. From the first tour, we were excited to be a part of this community. While the school has one of the best academic programs in DFW--Montessori preschool through Kindergarten and classical first through eighth grades--what really makes this school special is the focus on Christ.
