Rainier…read more After turning off the main road, you drive up a narrow gravel pathway, and there it is, a classic log cabin, two-story, nestled amongst the trees. The place was clean and spacious and had all the modern conveniences, including a kitchen. Yes, it's in the woods, but we felt perfectly safe -- there are a few other cabins nearby, and it's not far from civilization. A few retail and restaurant places are within easy driving distance. My only negative is that it claims to be suitable for up to six guests. That's not my experience. There are two good beds -- a queen and a full. The queen might work for a couple, but the full is really only good for one person. And the third bed is a fold out couch that only one of our party could seem to sleep on. Might be OK for kids, though. A small other downside -- we saw a few spiders, but you're in the woods here so you need to expect a bit of that. The thing I liked best about it is the location. It's just a mile from the park entrance for the Paradise part of the park. Later in the day, you can see cars lining up to wait an hour to get in, but not you -- because you're already there you can start early and get in without a wait. Pro tip: Get some groceries on the way. There are a few restaurants, but not a wide selection and the cabin has a kitchen with everything you need to cook.

The cabin has a nice woodsy smell even though we did have to air it out and it felt very cozy right once you stepped inside. The place is quite secluded with only one other cabin close by and the other by the owners. The amenities offered here is great with the free Wi-Fi which is very good for a far away place like this so close to Mount Rainier. The signal strength was great and we never had a disruption in service. When we checked in, Janet was there to greet us and was very helpful to explain about hiking options at Mount Rainier plus all the dining options close by in Ashford. They have a wide array of DVD's for you to borrow since they don't have any TV signal, but during our entire stay here we were always too busy to watch any of them. The cabin we stayed at was just terrific as it seems as it was recently not too long ago remodeled. It has a full size fridge, stove and even a dishwasher. They also have utensils and kitchen utensils for cooking with pots and pans included. The interior of the cabin was nicely decorated and you can tell the place has been kept up with all the guests coming and going with each new reservation. The bathroom is large and has a nice big Jacuzzi tub with a skylight. The main draw of the place was the big hot tub right outside our bedroom door. It was fenced in so you have privacy throughout and you can freely jump in and out whenever you want. The place also came with a small porch with a gas barbeque grill which we utilized once for barbequing burgers. It was such a great setting to relax and have a couple beers before heading to the wedding. If I ever come to Mount Rainier again I would definitely choose to stay at this cabin again as it is quite a long drive back to Seattle if only coming for a day trip. The amenities offered here just seems to make staying in the woods that more inviting! P.S. They have no cell phone signal here and you cannot get any reception once you leave the premises.

The Jr. Ranger program was fantastic--it was easy, quick, and the park rangers were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. We also loved the gift shop and had a wonderful time!

I wanted a different view and perspective of Mount Rainier after spending time on the Skyline Trail the day before. Sunrise is the highest point that can be reached by vehicle at Mount Rainier National Park at 6,400 feet. The visitor center has some nice exhibits and a gift shop. Park rangers are available to answer questions. There is a larger gift shop with food and snacks in the building next door. The nearby nature trail around the visitor center has picnic tables for eating and relaxing. Mount Fremont Lookout Trail is next to the Sunrise Visitor Center and is a popular trail to hike. The views are gorgeous from this location. The parking lot is huge, but does fill up during the day. Sunrise is only open in the summer months.

There is a bathroom there but I didn't have a chance to use it since they were cleaning right when I got there. I think it has running water though, it looked like it would. This visitor center has a nice big parking lot just like the one in Paradise but don't be fooled - it'll still fill all the way up. By the time we were leaving around noon, people were parking in non-spot areas along where the trail and the road run along each other.

The Cascades Camp is taking volunteers to help clear the overgrowth and then some in order to facilitate a nice network of scenic and accessible paths. Our group was given tools and guidance as to what to expect with the paths, but pretty much left on our own to do as much or as little as we wanted, and the Camp leaders were full of gratitude. It was a great activity of bonding with friends young and old, and we were fed three square meals a day in a vast high-ceilinged well-ventilated dining hall. We had time on our own to explore the grounds, particularly by the water, and the cool boxcar lodging area. Really cool experience for whatever party stays in those! A great hidden gem outside of Yelm!

Different years, different purposes, but always the same joyful, delightful place. The Cascades campus is huge, something I appreciate even more after spending a weekend clearing trails deep in the woods. Once you drive in, you don't need to leave the property for anything--just make sure you sign up for the meal plan! The meals are always tasty and ample. Nothing fancy, but always pleasant. It's amazing how much a weekend at camp opens up when you don't have to think about cooking. The lake is great highlight. Even though I've never visited when it was warm enough to swim, it's always a beauty to view. And this past visit, I walked down to the Blue Heron Marsh for the first time, which is another lovely water feature. Cascades Camp is family-run. They aren't trying to make a buck off of you. It's a family institution that wants to serve other families. The service is incredible. You are welcome here, and you will find joy in that that will keep bringing you back just like it does me.

Family of 5 w/3 5 and under…read more Ample room for everyone, looks like it was just remodeled in bathroom, bedroom, etc. This place has all the amenities you'd require for a comfy stay. Full kitchen with pots, pans, dishes, crock pot, coffee maker, blender, hot-tub, full bathroom, laundry, deck, loft bedroom, etc. Right outside the park & within 5 minutes of 2 local stores, town parks and amenities. TV for movies, game cabinet for fun times. Hot tub was fun, but jets stopped working 2nd night. Control panel looks waterlogged, but still was warm and comfy. Be aware of possible power outages in the winter/storm season. They do have a backup electric powerpack that handled the coffee maker for us and the tree lights for a couple hours. They also have a stash of flashlights and lanterns that will tide you over until the power comes back on. It only went out for us on our last morning there. (there was a huge windstorm the night before that downed some power lines) Would be back if we stayed in the area again.

Do you know how long it had to be there while rotting a d no one cleans it up. They keep taking the pictures down of the cobwebs and mouse in the house, I will send them to you. I would not rent from them ever! We even left early because the room had no heat. The bathroom is right by the back door so the bathroom is freezing at all times, I only took a picture of the hall way to show where the bathroom was to the door and the light switches are very dated and so is everything else in there. They tried to make a garage into a room and the hottest room in the house, the window didn't open so please I would suggest look elsewhere. Please hit me up for the mouse pictures and cobwebs. The biggest takeaway is that…read morethis is a service for people who are seriously prepared for an enormous mental and physical challenge - if you're looking for something wild to do without months of preparation, regardless of the trip you choose, you might feel a little put off with RMI. Rainier IS something you can do with no previous climbing experience, but that doesn't mean you can just show up the day-of and expect to be fine. "No experience needed" doesn't mean no training is required. They make it clear that you need to be in the best physical condition of your life to execute these trips. I am someone who wants to pursue mountaineering as a lifelong hobby but doesn't have a climbing community of my own to go with. As a result, finding a Rainier concessioner was a natural choice. And even though it's nerve-wracking to climb with a bunch of pro guides and strangers, I felt like I found the type of community I've been dreaming of! I'm a female climber and my first experience was less positive because I didn't feel very included as a woman, but this second trip was amazing. I think inclusivity can often depend on the attitudes of the guides. Shoutout to Dominic, Sam, Marissa, and Rylee for making sure I felt strong and capable. No notes. I had the BEST time with them! There are other Rainier vendors (or guide services for other mountains) that are known to be a bit more gentle and flexible in their approach and pacing of their trips. Consider those alternatives if you're not craving absolute grit. No judgement, it's a personal preference. All in all, putting on multi-day climbs with clients of all backgrounds and dangerous terrain is no small feat, but I believe RMI does an incredible job at this. For as long as I'm climbing and able, I will choose RMI again.

Rainier with RMI…read more From the first day of training through the climb itself, it was obvious that the guides (Stella, Annie, Drew, Erika) knew exactly what they were doing. They were professional, organized, patient, and extremely good at managing the balance between pushing us and keeping the team safe. What impressed me most was how much trust I had in the guides once we were actually on the mountain. Rainier is a serious environment, and there were moments when I was exhausted and operating pretty close to my limit. The guides stayed calm, communicated clearly, made good decisions, and kept the group moving. We were fortunate enough to summit, which was an experience I'll never forget, but I honestly came away appreciating the entire process just as much as standing on top. The preparation, the time at Camp Muir, the relationships built within our group, and the challenge of the climb itself made this much more than just checking a mountain off a list. RMI runs a very professional operation, but it never felt impersonal. I felt like our guides genuinely cared about getting the best out of us while still respecting the mountain and making smart decisions. If you're considering climbing Rainier and want a guide service that takes preparation, safety, and the overall experience seriously, I would absolutely recommend RMI. I'd climb with them again. We are very disappointed by their response and quite frankly, we've never experienced anything like this. We have booked trips at various campsites throughout the U.S., including State park and beaches, and even KOA's, but never have we experienced any location not wanting to refund us back our deposit. The resort is being inflexible & clearly must be hurting for money. For all the travelers out there, be very aware of this location and how they operate their "business". Don't fall victim to them.

Longmire is located at the southwest corner of Mount Rainier National Park and about six miles east…read moreof the Nisqually Entrance. It was once the site of the park headquarters when Mount Rainier National Park was established in 1899. In this area is the Longmire Wilderness Information Center, National Park Inn, a gift shop and restrooms. Longmire is a nice area for a quick pit stop after entering the park. There is some Wi-Fi in the area, but it is a little spotty. The Longmire Museum building was built in 1916 and was the first location of the park's headquarters. Years later, it became a museum with exhibits and a mini bookstore. The Longmire Museum is a small building and opens daily all year round. The exhibits inside the museum tell the story of the early days of the park. There is also a park ranger on hand to answer any questions that you may have. I stopped here and appreciated the ranger giving me a few tips about the park. I then grabbed a few things from the gift store next door and headed to my next destination. Cougar Rock Campground and Christine Falls are a short drive away. There are a number of hiking trails in this area and some picnic tables if you want to hang out and relax here in Longmire.
