Today, Wednesday 2 August 2023, I discovered a new appreciation for its placement on I-5 in regards to heading east to Enumclaw following visiting the rest area, the turn for Enumclaw (Highway 18) was the next exit once I merged back onto the interstate from the rest area. There are two smaller restroom buildings, vending machines, designated parking areas per vehicle type, and grassy area(s) with picnic tables. The restrooms were busy and a little less clean than I have experienced in the past, but nothing appalling. I was running low on water, so I tried two of the water fountains at one of the restroom buildings and found neither worked. Going to the second restroom building, I found working water fountain(s) with water that did not have a funky taste. While typically busy, people utilizing the rest area have tended to be mindful in my experience(s).

It was rather disturbing because you wonder what in the world is going on in the rest area when everything was so quiet? Not only do they need to change the eight hour rule in Washington state in general, but they certainly don't need to endanger the rest of us to arrest some creep.

It is a medium size rest area and the bathrooms can have fairly long lines as times, especially if one of the restrooms is being cleaned. Thankful they have more than one for each gender. For the most part is has been clean. The parking spaces have been easy to navigate in a small car (more recently) as well as the family minivan (when I was growing up). Outdoor grassy area(s) with picnic tables provide space to walk and/or eat while stopped. There is posted information near the restrooms that may be helpful on one's travels.

We pulled of the freeway at the next sign that read Rest Stop. It was a sunny day and it really made this pit stop a sight to behold. The grounds looked awesome. There is an area for walking pets, dual bathrooms on each side. Water fountains for free or for some coins, you can get something from the vending machines. Ther is also a station for brochures and maps to help your journey. There is plenty of parking and plenty of shade. It was a much needed rest and an enjoyable one ta boot.

There's no way to indicate if someone is inside. Maybe this is to help with people experiencing medical conditions? Otherwise it's a utilitarian rest stop, nothing too unique or amazing. We had finished a nice morning hike and couldn't resist the view from the front porch. We arrived around 11:15 and learned that lunch started at 12 and there was no waiting list. We decided to wait and sat at a table on the front porch, but we were worried a long line would form. The nicest woman was setting up the tables and helped us! She got us a buzzer so we would be first in line and she let one of us stay at the table to hold it. She really relieved our stress! Once we officially had our table, we had the most wonderful server named Pia. She was the kindest, friendliest person we saw on our whole trip! Pia made jokes, asked us about ourselves, and was just a ray of sunshine. I had the grilled cheese with ham, and it was incredible! Crispy crunchy bread, savory ham, and sweet and tart cranberry sauce, and fresh crunchy apple slices- delicious! My friend had the chicken and avocado sandwich, which also looked great. The coffee tastes a bit like the kind of coffee you you get around eight thirty in the evening in a convenience store. I didn't want Starbucks quality, I just wanted a boost of caffeine. No way would I take off a star for the coffee. After tasting the raisin oatmeal cookie I knew it was time to do a review. I have not had this kind of cookie in thirty years and vow to make my son these kind of cookies. The kind Grandmothers make. The restrooms are clean and well stocked which is fabulous change from the cold water and no soap at the campground.
