White Pass has some of BEST terrain that I've seen for intermediate level skiers looking to improve their skills in Washington state. The Paradise Basin part of the ski area has lots of trails with a constant, moderate grade and doesn't have many skiers during the week. The only catch is that you need to have enough skills to at least be able to get down a Blue intermediate run and there is a SHORT Black expert pitch to navigate on the way back to the base lodge. My tip here is to learn how to side slip down this short grade. Look up side slipping on YouTube, Instagram ot Tik Tok. That's a useful skill for a progressing skier to get down slopes that turn out to be above yourr skill level. If you're skiing Paradise Basin, check out the High Camp lodge as an on-mountain place to stop with great views. Especially during the week, we'll be back. White Pass is a nice alternative midweek to fighting the crowds at Crystal Mountain, Stevens Pass and Snoqualmie.

Yelpsop's Fables "The snow-covered sable"…read more One fine winter's morning, a sable paid a visit to the White Pass Nordic Ski area. He was road tripping, as sables these days tend to do, and was on his way to distant California, but he decided to take a break to explore the Cascades before moving on. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/nordic-center-at-white-pass-naches?userid=73DZUFYAXuycbJ_eEAox1Q#l380p_9V5kIa0btFzh8XFg So, with several hours to spare, he strapped on his snowshoes and set out onto frozen Leech Lake for a partially frozen waterfall several miles away. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/nordic-center-at-white-pass-naches?select=C1dMvHtw1r5f3GR4UWyoFg#42qdaItb6lCXxT3e8wgY2Q It was a pretty day, with snow and clouds and sun from time to time. There was a lot of fresh powder all around, and he plowed through the gigantic snow drifts with carefree curiosity. He reveled in the moment, in the strange new circumstances in which he found himself, in the endless expanse of trees, snow, and sky. Several xcountry skiers were sighted from time to time, and a few snowshoe groups, but mainly he and his partner were alone in the whitewashed woods of wintry Washington, silently taking in the sights and sounds. For a $15 fee, they had access to the trails and wandered them to their hearts' content, for several long and enjoyable hours. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/nordic-center-at-white-pass-naches?select=C1dMvHtw1r5f3GR4UWyoFg#EkF6FOuXSlyTGTUawg4OMw And then, snow-covered and satiated with winter's magic, they returned to the waiting car and sped off, down the mountain, for Oregon and the Willamette Valley and the Pacific coast after that. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/nordic-center-at-white-pass-naches?select=C1dMvHtw1r5f3GR4UWyoFg#f9eT6duYkfGqAsWTH5JA7A Goodbye, White Pass! Perhaps we'll meet again someday. Moral: Road trips aren't just about the road. Get off the beaten path sometimes, and bring your snowshoes with you. You never know when winter's magic will come a'calling. When it does, be ready for frolicking fun. Just like the snow-covered sable.

It's always better in a yurt…read more Yes, so I was ready this year. I bought my very first cross-country skiing set-up and a ski rack for my rig. I wanted to get my XC skiing on. But unfortunately, a winter which started with so much potential has been looking utterly sad as of late. After being skunked for two weekends in a row, decided to bite the bullet and head up to White Pass even if the forecast looked ugly (meaning warm & wet). Sure enough the drive up didn't instill confidence. We didn't see ANY snow for much of the drive up, but luckily right toward the pass, the snow started to look a little more substantial. White Pass wasn't completely packed, but I was surprised with the lack of parking near the Nordic Center. I was further surprised by the number of people at the Nordic Center. So we went to the Nordic Center which is basically a yurt (a Mongolian tent/cabin-like structure). We were greeted by staff here, and we got the 411 about the trails. We also bought our passes for the day (they were only $9!). As of the last few weeks, the only issue up here is a washout on the trail south of the lake. You'll have to get out of your skis and follow the walkway through it. Now most of the trails are groomed. They have also opened up a loop called Zig Zag which had been closed for a few years. Oh, and snow shoe-ers are also welcome on the trails up here, too. As for why all the people---the Nordic Center dude said it is because they were having a Jamboree. Basically it's an event to get people to come up from the East and West side to enjoy the Nordic style. It was cool. All the people here seemed really nice. My kind of people, I reckon! The yurt is cozy. There are a few tables to chill at. There are snacks and hot drinks available. There's only one bathroom in here, so you'll have to wait in line. We made it quick and tried to get on the snow ASAP. So, there's a (very) slight descent to get on the trails from the yurt. I suck at XC skiing, so I was a little scared of this, because I didn't want to eat it in front of the crowd hanging out here. Luckily we made it on to the trail with no issue. Now there are tons of trails here. There is lots of flats, some definite steep routes, and also some curvy paths. We were on the paths by about 2pm and were easily there until 5. For most of the time you are on your own because the area is big. I first came up in 2000, and with every visit, I always say I can't be a stranger. It's so much fun! Even though the weather wasn't optimal, it was still beautiful. The snow was actually really good. Being outside, barreling down a hill, sweating it up a GREAT cardio/muscle workout. The Nordic trails up here are awesomely cool!

It was an honor to be part of this historic landmark hotel which was established circa 1912. There are 9 rooms in which 5 rooms have their own private bathroom. The other 4 shared two bathroom. Each rooms are named after favorite local hiking trail. Each room are also decorated with combinations of William Morris wallpapers with dark and light hues. If you see it in person, it seems like you're time traveled from the first time it was established. They were also able to preserved some of the original wood and decorations inside this historic hotel. Alyssa one of the staffs is the most kindest and warmest person who always greeted us. Her and other staffs worked so hard together to keep the place going and cozy as much as possible. There's also a fire place that's available to use during winter. Also a complimentary coffee, tea and cider to help warm you after a chilly hike somewhere. Every where yo set your eyes in this place has a very special touch from people whose involved in this place. Glad we stayed here throughout our Juander Mt. Rainier. Best decision to book here! The creaky floor was one of the original thing here so t'was a fun bonus. Walk slowly fellow Juanderers.... Cons: Price is too steep and for the 10 days that we booked here we only got 10% discount and at the time they don't serve breakfast nor dinner. No microwave available for everyone to use, it would be nice if they put one and is available to use at any time. Would love to come back and hopefully they'll give a certain big discount next time. My wife walked down to the site and saw it was really unlevel, and the back 15 feet just fell off. Gravel was dumped but not spread out, with no attention paid to where it went. The trees were so tight on every side of it, and at the site, there is just no way of either getting to it or getting into it with any safety. When we showed the pictures to the teenage girls running the office/store/restaurant, they said there were pictures of the site online, and we should have seen the way it was. There is one picture, and it's from a low level, looking back at a lake that was full years ago. Tried to explain that we could NOT get there safely, they said no refunds, and there are no other sites. We never PICKED that site; it was assigned by a manager months earlier when we made the reservation and explained what we had for a trailer. This was Labor Day weekend. We had to leave and try to find a different place at a moment's notice. No refund period at this place. Stay away. Unless you want a forest floor drive, Tree roots and all, and rude customer service. We camped at Silver Beach Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Unfortunately, after repeated experiences, it simply does not. As someone who frequently travels and dines at upscale restaurants and banquets, I can confidently say that what is marketed as refined here does not align with what is delivered. On multiple occasions, we found long dark hairs in our food -- including in my children's mac and cheese. This was not a one-time oversight. It became a pattern. Even more concerning, management-level staff with very long dark hair were consistently seen delivering food without it properly secured. When basic food safety standards appear optional at the leadership level, it speaks volumes. Beyond that, service execution is disorganized. Tables are crowded, and we repeatedly received incomplete settings or missing items -- condiments, steak knives, and at times portions of the meal itself. These are elementary details for any restaurant, let alone one positioning itself as upscale. The only bright spot was one blonde server named Sandi who handled the situation with professionalism and composure. She demonstrated the level of service the restaurant claims to embody. What ultimately makes the experience untenable is the atmosphere created by the head chef audibly yelling tickets and shouting at staff throughout service. A dining room should feel polished and controlled -- not chaotic and tense. After giving this establishment many opportunities to improve, we have decided not to return. High-end dining is not about price points or aesthetics -- it is about consistency, leadership, and standards. Those fundamentals are currently lacking here. Gorgeous place nonetheless.

I got it on my birthday instead of nookie and it took 10 days of medical treatment to expunge. I reported it to the health dept and they just repeated what the hotel told them about pH balance and sanitary levels. I spent three hours in a tub without a staffer taking levels. In Palm Springs, it is on the clock hourly. 2) in the snow tubing area, which was vast, I flew into a frozen pond and broke through to what smelled liked raw sewage, Suncadia reports it's just water run off. It was not quite "It's a Wonderful Life" traumatizing... but it's the first thing I remember about my birthday... even over the UTI that prevented me from making love to my husband for two weeks. 3) My gift was left in the room but never reported as missing. My only birthday gift this year. 4) Suncadia is a total cheap repelicant of rich people resorts. I don't want to go to those places because I detest rich people. However Suncadia is simple and overwhelmed, like the Vegas version of the Eiffel tower instead of the real Effiel tower.

This intermediate terrain had some steep faces and wide terrain to accomdate a crowd of people. There was one day, the winds were blowing up Sun Spot and was blowing snow up the hill, which I was told was not the norm. There were some icy spots but never any rock skiing danger. I did not venture out to Chair 4 where there were two other runs open. I had lunch both days at Midway Lodge. One pulled pork rice bowl and one pulled pork sandwich. Both pork products were juicy and well seasoned, great for a mid day break. There was pleanty of seating inside as well as outside. At the base lodge area, there are multiple places to access the bathroom and getting RFID card was a snap. Just showed them my payment email and was printed a card right away. The lifts were generally fast, and they did show down for the ski schoolers occassionally. Lines were mainly only about 4 to 6 people deep and once you got your lift ticket scan, off you were to sit a spell and enjoy the views. The staff was great, answered questions and nice all around. Since it was early in the season, parking was not a problem and I was always close to the base lodge. I did not try the night skiing, so if you did buy the day pass, you could continue into the night skiing hours if you had the energy. I ended my day bot times in the 3:30 range. I did download the PDF trail map but they also had posted trail maps at certian locations avaliable. As for wifi, this worked at the base lodge area and not at Midway Lodge. Cell service worked at Midway but I noticed a few times my text messages failed to deliver, but on the second try went through. I would return here since Stevens Pass has gotten very busy in the past few years and due to road damage, I opted to try MIssion Ridge, I am glad I did.

When I went back later to get the guy's name, I asked a man, Steve, what the boot guy's name was. Steve said, "Well, he's wearing a name tag." I said, "Seriously?" Then he gave me Al's name.
