My boyfriend and I had the immense pleasure to stay in one of the Mountain Air Cabins. We couldn't have asked for a better place (the cabin was adorable with all the amenities we needed) and better hosts. Every morning we woke up to a view of the mountains with thunder breaking above. It was so restful and relaxing, including the great hot tub, that we returned to the "big city" feeling what it really was like to fall in love with the stillness and peace of nature. Gracias! Was refunded for my cancellation except for a $35.00 "administration fee" which I had to dig into the 12-page contract to find. And this was 19 days after I cancelled the same day I booked. If I had not called, I would most likely not have gotten anything back since they switched computer software. It's funny how places like this make you book and pay and THEN they send you a contract with the additional details not found on the website, This includes VRBO and Air BNB by the way. Had to run ac on 58* with 4 box fans blowing full speed to get temp to hold at 78* during day. Read my review from June 19-22. Don't waste your $ and precious vacation time on this company. We stayed at the Deer Medows and Wildflower cabins in Ruidoso NM, checked in on November 8 and left on November 13, 2022. My husband passed away the end of August and we had a cruise booked that week to celebrate his birthday (November 9th). I cancelled the cruise and booked this cabin so my family could be together that week. The management company was very helpful prior to our arrival but not after we arrived. Twice I have requested a call from the owner of the management company, and they will not call me back. I would recommend that you go to the management company's website and read their reviews. It looks like about half of them are bad and complain about how rude the management company is. Mountain Air Cabin Rentals. This was our experience with them too. The management company's manger told us that the cabins are only "deep clean" twice per month, give the world we are living in I would expect the cabin to be thoroughly cleaned between each guest and you pay a cleaning fee. The cabin is in a very nice area and centrally located to town but still feels like you are in the mountains. The cabin is nicely decorated, the kitchen is well stocked with dishes/pots pans etc. The beds were comfortable. The gas fireplace is a nice touch, so you don't have to mess with firewood and ashes. It was an accumulation of things that made the trip not enjoyable. The pictures are very misleading as to the size of the cabin. When we arrived, the cabin was not clean, not the end of the world, so I cleaned it. The floor was not swept, and the rug was filthy. I swept and wiped all the counters down and washed the dishes (not knowing if they we clean or not). The shower curtain was moldy. There were huge cobwebs in the bathroom and long black hairs in/on the tub and shower surround. The hot tub cover was broken, and it took three people to lift it (it appears that it is only missing two screws), the hot tub jets only worked on low. The shower in the small cabin did not work, which makes me wonder if the tub was even cleaned. The maintenance guy was great and came out twice. There were no blankets on the beds, just a sheet and light bedspread and only sheets for the hide-a-bed. The Short-Term Rental permit in the cabin had expired over a year ago and was only for 6 people, I did not see one for the smaller cabin. There were piles of black dog hair in the cabin and trash under the couch. All of that was a disappointment but the thing that made the stay unpleasant and unacceptable was the Hide-a- bed couch. On the Thursday the last two of our group came in and were planning on staying two nights. And we were getting ready for bed and pulled out the bed only to find it was filthy and broken. The plastic mattress had pee and what appeared to be blood stains on it and stunk. The bottom section of the bed was broken, no support for the mattress, wires sticking out, they had tried to duct tape it back together. I called the management company, the "manager" came out. She would not even look at the things that were wrong. All she said was that the hot tub cover broke three guests ago and "since this is a mountain resort town" that there was not a repairman or a place to replace it and they were aware that the hide-a-bed was broken and that they were very expensive and not locally available, so the cabin owner was looking for one. She also said that in the listing the listing that it was only to be used for kids. The listing stated that it will sleep 8 adults nothing about kids. Why would anyone let kids sleep on the bed in those conditions? They could easily fall through the end of the bed and seriously hurt themselves on the wires that were sticking up. She also said that no one would think that adults should sleep on hide-a-beds. She said our two opens were 1) pack up and leave tonight or 2) take it as it is. Wow!!! I had to spend an extra $380 to get a hotel room for two nights since the bed was not usable. They were not the cheapest nor were the most expensive, I picked them for the location and the hot tub (which was a disappointment). I could have spent less money for one without a hot tub. The manager also laughed when I told her that I would be reporting this to VRBO, her response was they will not do anything. I do find it interesting that they have changed the listing to say that the couch is for "kiddoes", I have screen prints of the listing before the change. I will never stay at one of their managed properties again. I will be requesting a refund. read more

My sister and I rented the Moon Shadow 2 cabin for three nights during the July 4th holiday. It was quite expensive--more than $700. Upon arriving, we saw that the road leading up to the house is extremely steep, unpaved, and gravelly. My Mazda3 just couldn't make it up the hill, despite many tries. Finally, my car slid backwards into a gravel ditch. Immediately, we called the people who had rented the cabin to us and told them about our situation. They offered nothing--not the number for a towing service, not an offer to come over and help us, not empathy...nothing. When we asked if we could get a refund, they said no. No towing services were available because it was July 4th. We had to drag all our luggage up a very steep hill and order food to be delivered for dinner. I thought I was going to have a heart attack--literally. The young guy who delivered our dinner couldn't make it up the hill, either, and had to walk. He was gasping for air, despite being not even 20 years old. We saw some people who were staying at Moon Shadow 1 on the same property. We asked them how they got up the hill. They said, "Oh, we used this other driveway, which is paved. They told us you would probably be parking here." Hmm. The owners/managers "forgot" to tell us about that driveway and about the possibility of parking there--just like they "forgot" to tell us that we would need an SUV to get up the main road. The next day, AAA sent a tow truck from Alamogordo. They were able to pull my car out of the ditch, but their efforts (combined with my efforts earlier) burned up my clutch in the process. We left this hell hole and checked into a hotel. I was able to drive around in town a little, but then my clutch died in town, in traffic. After many Texans drove around us for 45 minutes, two kind young men from the Travelodge saw us and pushed us out of the street and to safety in a parking lot. My clutch was gone. When we called to tell these horrible people that we had checked out after only one night of a three-night stay, the woman obviously didn't want to hear about it. She interrupted my sister and said, "I hope you enjoy the rest of your stay." Ummm, no. We didn't. Because of you. The same guys from Alamogordo came and got us, and we had to ride in a tow truck all the way from Ruidoso to Albuquerque, 180 miles. It is going to cost me almost $1,000 to have my clutch replaced. By simply disclosing a bit more information, this getaway from hell could have been pleasant, and the disasters could have been averted. Worst rental experience of my life. read more

Worst Father's day" vacation stay. We paid almost $700.00 to stay in a stinky dusty cabin with No A/C, water from the rain coming in the bathroom ceiling light, I called and got hung up on, Horrible customer service will never stay here again and don't recommend this place to anybody. My wife spent most of her time cleaning this place up... My buddy owns the west wind cabins here in Ruidoso way better prices with 5 star customer service. this place is horrible. We have used Mountain Air cabin rentals twice now. This past weekend we stayed at the Snuggle Inn located at 107 Dufo. The cabin includes many amenities with a hot tub. The size of the cabin was perfect for my husband and I. Management for the cabins are very professional, friendly, and welcoming. They remembered us from our visit in 2015. The place is clean and in good shape. Definitely recommend it and we will return to visit again. read more

We had a cabin reserved through Mountain Air Cabins for my daughter's Spring Break in March 2020. Alas, COVID-19 lockdowns commenced a couple weeks before our visit, and New Mexico became a walled fortress, dooming visitors to 14 days of segregated quarantine. A couple weeks ahead of our trip I called Mountain Air Cabins and explained our conundrum with the quarantines affecting our trip. The customer service lady who took our call had obviously heard this story many times before. "We need to cancel our trip, but perhaps we can reschedule after the COVID restrictions are loosened," I told her. "Sure, I understand," she responded. Through the trials and tribulations of 2020 the Governor of New Mexico maintained extensive restrictions on travelers from other states, so we had no opportunity to reschedule our visit to Ruidoso. A year later in February 2021, the COVID situation had much improved. New Mexico was at the forefront of US states in terms of COVID-19 vaccination rates. New Mexico's Governor relented at long last, and reopened the state to visitors. I was planning a getaway over my daughter's Spring Break, once again. I checked the Mountain Air Cabins website, and found that the same cabin I'd reserved a year earlier was available. Optimistically I called Mountain Air Cabins, hoping to book that cabin. The lady who answered my call was helpful: "Yes, it's available, I'll put in your booking." Great, I thought. "That'll be $XXXX." Hm. "Well, could you please check my records," I said, "We put in a $400 deposit last year and had to cancel due to the pandemic restrictions." "Okay, let me see... Yes, I see that you had this cabin booked, and that you cancelled due to COVID." I asked her, "Can we get some credit for our deposit last year?" "Well, I don't see any notes about that in your record," she replied. "We've been processing a lot of rebookings, but I don't see any notes in your record that indicate that you have a credit." I pushed a bit, "Surely you're giving credits to other people who cancelled due to COVID." "I'm not authorized to do that, only the owner can do that, and she's away," she responded. We went back and forth a bit, with her telling me that the owner of the business was the only person who could authorize a credit, and she was away on travel. I eventually booked our trip to Flagstaff instead of to Ruidoso. No refund, and no credit from Mountain Air Cabins. Maybe the lady I spoke to about our reservation was completely correct in that she didn't have authorization to give me credit for the $400 we'd deposited the year before. But then that I take to be a failure of management, a failure of customer service, of commitment to service. I'm very disappointed with my experience with this company. read more

Our very first stay was a little rough on the first night because a nasty storm was blowing in, but Ryon was quick to come to the cabin and help rectify a few issues we were having. This was pretty late at night and he went above and beyond. Every visit since has been smooth as can be, and even though it's been a while since our last visit, we will definitely be back! read more

We LOVE Mountain Air Cabins! The owners are fantastic folks! Its the only place we stay when we come to Ruidoso because it's the best in our eyes! We have stayed in four of their cabins and enjoyed them all. Mountain Air has the best location at Upper canyon with the best views. I booked a reservation through a 3rd party website for a cabin here. Amazing deal, we were so stoked! Well, needless to say, the company messaged me 3 days later saying there was a "mixup" with the pricing and they were going to be charging me $400 more! I called them to rectify the situation, and the owner, Alyx, started cursing at me, telling me he wouldn't honor the price I had already paid and that he "didn't give a shit" about my reservation and would be cancelling it because the price (that THEY listed) was too low! WHAT??? Unbelievably rude and I'm very disappointed with him and his lack of customer service. I'm sure the cabins are nice, and we were really looking forward to staying here; however, I would never recommend this place to even my worst enemy due to how I was treated.
