I've had issues resulting from frozen shoulder for years. Tension from flare- ups require massage…read moreand I am very choosy about who touches me. I was referred to Pam by a friend who raved about her - and she wasn't wrong. It was obvious she knew her stuff and then some. I felt very lucky to have found her, and I will be back! My visit with her was last year during Covid. I arrived wearing my mask and though I saw another person post about this, there was zero issue with me keeping my mask on throughout the session.

Let me start by saying I have had a lot of massages. It is my go-to to "treat myself" to the point…read morewhere I treat myself on nearly a bi-monthly basis during non-COVID times. Most massages I have gotten in SF, but also when I travel (NYC, LA, Peru, Mexico, pretty much every major city)-so I have had a variety of styles and experiences, while some varying, only one or two of them have actually been bad. This experience was more strange than anything. I was gifted two gift certificates for Pam as presents from my family. I received the first massage over summer 2020 and the second massage in January 2021. The first was an OK experience, and a solid massage. The second experience was pretty mediocre, the massage still solid while not being memorable. It's clear Pam is knowledgeable about the body and enjoys talking and imparting her knowledge on her client, which is appreciated if desired but most massage therapists will "read the room" and if the client is just there to relax (i.e. not speaking, starting conversation or giving short answers) then keep the talking to a minimum-she talked for nearly the entire massage only breaking near the end. She asked if she could release my hip which I agreed, but it involved near 15 minute of extremely deep pressure in one spot--I would've preferred some sort of check in or warning that it would take up that much time, because I came to relax and had already asked her to focus on my neck and shoulders--no issues with my hip. The part that made the experience strange was when I showed up wearing a mask and she insisted I "throw it away" and immediately asked where I was from and proceeded to say that "You city people are programmed to wear masks, but I don't have COVID and you don't have COVID so you don't need to wear one." I'm not sure how she knew I didn't have COVID given I just walked in the door, but her persistence (not once but three times) that I remove my mask was off putting, as if she was going to convince me out of it. I didn't remove it and she appeared flustered by that. Lastly, she overcharged me. I had a giftcard that included an hour massage and a $10 add on for deep tissue (there was no difference from the deep tissue vs regular massage i received 6 months prior). I added on an extra 30 min, for which I paid out of pocket. The price seemed pretty high given the one hour price but I verified the cost of a $90 min vs $60 min with her just to be clear and she confirmed. As I walked home I looked at her website and the price was $20 less than what i had paid. I called her back and asked her about the discrepancy, she said she must've done her math wrong and told her to come back for my $20. I'm appreciative she recognized her mistake but it seemed suspicious given all her treatments are the same price so she shouldn't have to do math on the fly.
