It was a bit strange today having only one person swimming in the giant pool. It was overcast and rainy, Saturday evening... I guess I was the only one that needed to do laps but, when you're face down in the water, you don't really see anyone else or talk to anyone else. This is my favorite swimming/exercise spot . Can't say enough about it. Don't forget, the membership here also allows you to go to the other Reno area pools. Including Idlewild, north Northwest and Mount Evelyn or Evelyn Mount whatever it is. Ok, maybe it is a clean pool smell. The building, locker rooms, seating areas, parking lot and outdoor areas look good. If you haven't been and you are thinking it is just another community pool like Alf Sorrenson or Idelwild, it is not. This is a jewel in the Parks & Rec. Department's offerings. This facility gets bonus points for being fully self sustainable with the hot springs and solar. The rates are reasonable with discounts on Wednesday evening and Sunday. RecConnect passes start at $12 per month.

This Review is for the Bacon, Bourbon & Beer Event…read more Thank you Mike T from Yelp, the Care Chest organization, and to all the vendors & volunteers that made this such a GREAT event. Duplicate review to be posted at Care Chest & Bartley Ranch. Quality/Quantity - I have been to most of the breweries that attended. But it was GREAT to discover so many food businesses. I will be sure to visit them after this event. Also, I discovered so many local spirits and bourbons. Look forward to creating a "local" bar at the house. Atmosphere - Fun event that supports a good cause. So many food, bacon, bourbon, and beer booths. I ate and drank too much!! It was also good to see the regular Yelp attendees. William C (& Grant), we are attending all the same events, should we consider carpooling, LOL?! Some of the activities are: Silent auction, Beer Stein holding (I failed miserably! Might have been drunk by 4pm already...). Plenty of tables and chairs throughout and a huge shaded area near the DJ. Service - Amazing, from the Care Chest Team that greeted us during check in to all the vendors that supported this event. I met and spoke with so many of the founders of businesses here. So impressed that founders of good size companies can take the time to come and support! Thank you again! Price - Yelp invitation, don't forget to tip & donate! Owner Suggestion - Bartley Ranch - Love visiting and hanging out with all the horse owners here. Care Chest - Congrats on all your success since 1990, what a great organization.

I encourage you to support these folks, as personally, they helped us make one of our bathrooms wheelchair friendly. Since I am not getting any younger, I knew that it would be more difficult to assist my son with is personal hygiene needs. Since I myself have some back issues, lifting him into a tub would soon be crossed off of my list. Now I have a roll in shower with grab bars. My son has a shower chair. And I owe it to CareChest through grants and donations from supporters. Great event with foods from Chihuahuas, Fig Tree Catering. Distilled brews from Frey Ranch, The Depot, and many more! Jeff Martinez from Channel 2 News did a great job at MCing, and the music was terrific!

As a military brat, this organization holds a special place in my heart. I have donated to this cause for fifteen years, including posting a reminder daily on my Facebook page to vote for VGH to win a large donation from Home Depot years ago. And, yes, they won! Finally, I visited their wonderful facility at their annual open house on December 9, 2023. I am so pleased to see that we are helping our Veterans and their families with lodging while the Veteran receives medical attention at no cost to them! Many companies and other groups provide dinner nightly for those staying there! If you have a minute, you might want to take a quick tour to see how VGH "spends" our donations and I believe you will also be impressed. Please keep in mind that VGH operates solely on the donations of our local community! There are reading areas, a laundry room, TV rooms, and bedrooms from single beds to family-sized all with bathrooms, large open community areas like the kitchen and dining area. Please remember that our Veterans signed a blank check when they served our country and now we can help them!

Several times a year I drop off various greeting cards for the guests to use, as well as various dental items. They also accept cash and gift cards to several area stores. Throughout the year VGH has a few fund raisers. October is Boots to Fashion. A fabulous event at a Reno casino ballroom that includes a champagne three course lunch, raffle and auction items and of course a fashion show. Women veterans of all ages and branches donate their time walk the runway and show off the latest trends in women's clothing from local shops. A fabulous event that honors the many women in the military. Why are fund raisers needed ? Because VGH provides US military service veterans and their families a place to stay in Reno while they are receiving medical treatment at the VA Center or other area facilities. The House is like a small hotel with a common area living room and kitchen. It is not associated the Veterans Administration. Guests are suggested a $25 a night donation to help defray costs, but no one is refused for lack of funds. The house, located across the street from the VA Hospital, is a non-profit, and receives no state or federal money for its day to day operations. Huge kudos for everything the VGH does for the veterans. Thank you sir and mam for your service. For more info - veteransguesthouse.org

Kait set up an appointment with Bob, the owner, to meet with us to discuss our needs and concerns and let us know he would get back to us after working with the scheduler, Heather, to let us know if they could staff the hours that we needed. Bob also reviewed the costs and the company's expectations of us as clients. I have read some of the complaints and feel they are unfounded. Businesses can't survive if they don't protect themselves. Comfort Keepers works very hard to assign and schedule caregivers that can meet the needs of each patient and they deserve respect if and when service needs to be cancelled. I personally worked with each caregiver to make sure they were comfortable with my mother-in-law and that my mother-in-law accepted them in her home. Each and every one of the care givers were well trained, kind, and respectful. The situation was challenging, and they were all wonderful! I have nothing but respect for this company and the people they hire. The care givers told me that they truly love working for Comfort Keepers because they offer excellent training, and they are treated well. We arrived at 5PM to ensure that we had parking and that we had enough time to get our tickets from will call and grab a couple of seats for dinner, prior to the concert. While the tickets indicated that we could enjoy any entree, the people at the food truck told us that we couldn't get their two most expensive items. Which is fine, we just wish they stated that on their menu, so we didn't spend time looking at those items. The food was good, thank you Famous Dave's! We also received a couple complimentary drinks and decided on trying something new (for us) from a local distillery from Verdi. We decided on a Manhattan and a Whiskey sour. I could drink the Whiskey Sour, but neither of us particularly enjoyed the Manhattan, as neither of us are whiskey drinkers. There was plenty of fun events for the kids to enjoy. If it wasn't for the rain, I am sure we would have seen more families out there. The Beatles Flashback was a fun band, even if you do not care for the original group's music. They we full of energy and interacted well with the crowd. Somebody even noticed that they had one more member (5) than the original band had. Eli "Paperboy" Reed was the headliner and he didn't disappoint. He is a very soulful singer and has a terrific voice. I think we were sitting too close to the speakers because the music would drown out his voice, but when he sang accapella he really sounded fantastic! There was a raffle for some terrific prizes, I don't remember them all, and I hope that the winners enjoy them. All in all, it was a great evening, even if the weather didn't behave early on. We look forward to attending again next year.

We started our evening being greeted by the friendly volunteers and grabbing our tickets and purchased some raffle tickets (we just missed the rain, lucky us) - I just so happened to know one of the gals from FBNN since once upon a time ago I worked for the Food & Nutrition Division for the State of Nevada so this cause/event hits close to home and my heart in more ways then just through my former job. A wee bit parched we ventured over to the Verdi Local Distillery booth to have the bartenders make a suggestion of a tasty libation for me - Yeti Jackalope Gin Gimlit - I am normally a Vodka drinker and for my husband a Mahogany Whiskey Manhattan. Our stomachs definitely told us it was time for dinner even though we could hear the Beatles Flashback band play in the Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater we opted to eat and be serenaded by Beatle songs (heck we sang along too LOL) while we solved our current hunger issue at Famous Dave's Food Truck. We had used our resourcefulness prior to coming and read online that our food vouchers were valid for everything on the menu but the ribs, not a worry we had frequented Famous Dave's over the years so this gave us an opportunity to try something new. As we scoped out the menu to make our decision we chose the Catfish Tacos with coleslaw in flour tortilla that came with a choice of one side, so we went with the Spicy Mac-n-Cheese (I LOVE ANYTHING WITH CHEESE) with hints of jalapeno - both were delectable and Loaded Chips with Smoked Pork, baked beans, cheese and BBQ sauce - this was DELICIOUS and soooo filling that I literally tapped out and watched my husband pork out - pun intended LOL. **I would like to note here that ran in to another FBNN gal and all that I will says is that I recognized her when she said her name for her food order and I had the privilege of working with her when I was at the State and I would like to thank you C.J. for all that you do - you know who you are if you ever read this.** We finished up by grabbing a couple of waters and then stopping by the Java Ship Coffee to grab a couple of The Captain's Special's for $3.25 each it's ICE CREAMERY, ESPRESSO GOODNESS!! Double espresso over vanilla bean ice cream - ummmm yeppppppers sign me up!! We took our dessert drink into the Amphitheater found some fellow Yelpers, introduce ourselves to be greeted once again with huge smiles and with amazing luck grabbed front row seats near our new found Yelpers friends to finish our evening with the incredible Eli 'Paperboy' Reed soulful sounds, toes tapping and smiles on our faces - JUST SIMPLY A PERFECT EVENING!!
