Review for in-cabin chef services only: Chef Phil is a MUST when you rent a cabin in Broken Bow/Hochatown. I saw a video on Tik Tok by a well known hair salon owner in Dallas recommending him - LEGIT! Our hand-selected menu: - Prime Grade 16 oz Ribeye - American Wagyu 20 oz - Caesar salad (requested no anchovies but he usually adds them) - Brussels and crispy pork belly - Mushroom risotto - Smoked Gouda Mac and cheese - Herbed fresh green beans - Chocolate whiskey cake He will take custom food orders as well (even fresh seafood!). I cannot explain how EVERY bite of every item had incredible flavor. Delicious is an understatement. Chef Phil cooked, cleaned (counter/stove tops, took out the trash, loaded and started dishwasher), and provided nice to-go containers for leftovers. He did everything within 2 hours of arrival for two of us. The leftovers the next day were just as flavorful as freshly served! Reserve your date WELL in advance as his schedule stays full. Is it affordable? YES! I paid Chef Phil the same amount as going to a 5 star steak restaurant in Tulsa or Dallas and that included his time/travel (he should charge more!). The food was 5 star quality as well; actually, better! Besides being an amazing cook, Chef Phil is a kind, personable guy. Definitely a more gourmet meat market, but they work to serve your needs. Took a very thick New York strip and sliced for two. Perfect for the both of us. Meat grilled up very pretty and was super tender. You can pickup everything you need for a complete meal and go back to your cabin and half a great steak for half the price of any restaurant. We preordered and purchased a prime rib roast recently to have for our Thanksgiving at our nearby second home. Jessica is so helpful and she placed the seasonings on the roast and tied it up for us. At this point it was ready to place in the oven. We also purchased some of the awesome cocktail shrimp and Butcher Beans (baked beans); oh and let us not forget the horseradish for the beef. Grilling a $50+ CAB Prime ribeye on a gas grill without my sous vide / searing equipment and meat thermometer was a bit daunting. But the directions provided by the individual working the counter helped make it a success. I'm sure the quality of the beef also helped. Initially it was a bit too rare for my tastes and the additional 3 minutes put it to the top end if not just over medium rare but it didn't detract from the deliciousness. The salt / pepper / garlic seasoning provided at no charge was also a nice and helpful addition. Also got the mushrooms and stuffed potato. Both were acceptable but not memorable. Normally I'd wonder why a meat market / grocery story was asking for a tip but given the cooking directions and spices provided it was understandable and acceptable. Nice, clean environment. Nice addition to the area since none of the restaurants really grabbed our interest in their perceived ability to provide a high quality dinner experience. read more

We came here on a rainy day in 11/22 to look for steak dinner items. This establishment offers a good amount of not only meat, seafood and cheeses, but also side items, dry goods, spices, rubs and grilling accessories. The ladies here were superbly helpful in offering any suggestions. We had our hearts set on steak, though, and we walked out with two beautiful NY strips, sides of potato salad and mushrooms, and some butter - all for under $80. I reverse seared the steaks and they were damn gorgeous when they finished off on the grill. The meat was tender, juicy, and top-quality. If you have some extra scratch and the time, I highly suggest hitting this store for everything you need for a masterpiece meal. read more

Fantastic source of fresh beef and other great eats while on vacation. The are inside is full of great sauces, seasonings, and other food items up to the meat counter. The staff is very friendly and helpful. After our initial visit where I bought some ribeyes (1.9 lbs each) and some twice baked potatoes, we then returned 3 more times over the weekend to pick up some of their pickled items. Only one place further down south did as I preferred with roast meat but the flavor of Mountain Man Meat Market has outdone Louisiana boudin. Now I can only pray I don't get evicted from my state for saying such. This place is a little gem! We got sausages, jalapeño pimento cheese, rosemary & sea salt crackers that I could eat every day, their jalapeño poppers, loaded potatoes, oh, & that corn!!! When we have come to Broken Bow in the past, I usually procure some premium cuts in Dallas to take with us; however, this time... I wanted to try some of the meats from Mountain Man Meat Market since we were planning to eat our "steak dinner" later in the week. For my first trip, I decided on some Prime CAB ribeyes. Phil helped pick out some cuts that would fit the bill for our guests (3 steaks at around 1.25-1.5 lbs). I also decided to try a pack of bacon as well... since....well, bacon. When I returned back to our cabin, I got started on the grill while my wife started seasoning and preparing the meats. When I came in to check the progress, I noticed that my 3 ribeyes had transformed into a lovely looking ribeye and two long NY strips. I picked up the phone and talked to Phil on the phone and we were both perplexed as to how this happened; however, I knew that Phil would make it right. He offered to refund my order or to replace my strips for ribeyes. I decided quickly that I did not want to waste the meats and asked for just one of the smallest ribeye cuts he could find. I didn't doubt that the strip would be delectable; however, my son expressly told me he would be consuming an entire steak himself (all 50 pounds and 6 years of age). We had some of our house-mates going back up to the market to procure some sides, jalapeno poppers, and some salsa as appetizers and Phil had my cut waiting for them to take home. Needless to say, we ate it ALL; however, my son failed in his admirable pursuit of polishing off an entire steak by himself. Huge props to Phil for making it MORE than right with us and providing some great food to enjoy while in town. Will definitely be recommending and revisiting ! read more

Stopped in here on our recent visit to Broken Bow. Picked up some great hamburgers, buns, bacon, breakfast sausage, and sides (corn and bacon-wrapped asparagus). Everything was super fresh and delicious as we made it throughout our weekend. We even ended up bringing the bacon home to cook and still was so good! We rented a cabin for the weekend and this ended up being the perfect stop on the way back our cabin for the evening. The prepared sides also made our dinner as fast and easy as it was delicious. Came here for the lunch special. We had the hamburger special. We shopped around the inside for something. We bought boudin and some other things including some steak for a cook out at the cabin. The hamburgers were cooked just right. Lots of folks come for the meat here. The service is great with smiles. The price is not too bad. Lots of preserves and other canned items. We come here every time we stay at the area cabins. We usually get Steaks and the stuffed potatoes, asparagus, and bacon wrapped jalapeños. And it's all really really great every time! Pricey? Maybe a little. But less than dining in at a steak house. And we love having at least one home cooked meal while staying here at our favorite cabin. Selection is always good. Always friendly and helpful service. Oh and yes they are open Saturdays and Sundays. Don't rely on the hours posted online. We will continue to come here every time we are in the area.
