When you are at Papa Poblanos, you simply must let Lety (the best server on the planet) make your tableside quacamole......oh my goodness. Perfect flavors! We ordered double fajitas with chicken and beef and the portion was huge with plenty to take with us. I appreciated that there were lots of peppers and onions with the fajita meat. Staying in the Beavers Bend area for a nice quiet getaway with family. We all decided it was time for some TexMex and headed into town to Papa Poblanos. I had checked out the reviews and they were pretty solid. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. One of the ways in rate a TexMex restaurant is the quality of their salsa and chips. Papa Poblanos met the criteria, they were very good, not top-notch, but very good. I ordered a frozen Margarita, it was delicious. For my entree, I decided on a flauta platter accompanied with rice and refried beans. My sister and wife decided to share an order of chicken fajita nachos. It was more than ample to share between the two of them. My flauta platter was very good, totally yummy rice and refried beans. The flautas were fried a bit longer than they should have been but they had a delicious filling especially dipped in the restaurant's salsa. Its been five years since we were here. This time I brought we brought my mother in law. She ordered a beef quesadilla and once again we ordred the Molcajete for two. The food was good, the milanesa was done perfectly, came with rice beans avocado salad and a couple of tortillas. Not the biggest fan of the red sauce but the green was the bees knees! Service was what made the experience, Alex was the man, super sweet, when we had questions it was never a bother and he made great recommendations (dude even invented drinks that we tried and loved the pineapple margarita). The food was excellent! I highly recommend the molcajete, which is a giant bowl of all the meat with melted cheese and avocado. It's served with tortillas (similar to fajitas but so much better). The limeade was sweet, sour, and foamy. I loved it. Our service did get a bit spotty after we got our food. There was a drink station in the room we were in and we refilled our own drinks and got our own to go containers. The checkout was in the front, but there was a wait. Food 5/5. At first, I was a bit worried given the run down condition of the place. It felt dirty. Hence why I can't give more than 3 stars. But I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. TLDR - Papa Poblanos is really good, but waiter Harold was literally the best. The food at Papa Poblanos is very good. My daughter had enchiladas and she cleaned her plate fast! I had tropical fajitas and they were very good. More significant than the food though was the service. Our waiter was Harold. Harold was fast, polite, kind, and knowledgeable. He had a bright smile through our whole dinner. Harold called my daughter princess, which tickled her even though she's 13. He showed an interest in us (just enough to make us feel seen, no long conversation) and made a point to welcome us to the restaurant and to Broken Bow. Our food came fast and very hot. My daughter went to take a picture and Harold kindly took the phone from her and took a fast series of pictures of the food and us at dinner. When we asked for a beverage refill he saw we were finished with our food and brought us to go cups, with big smiley faces drawn on them, as well as a to go container, and with the check he brought mints and a small quantity of m&ms and a pack of fruit chews, in line with the Halloween theme. Written out, it doesn't seem to capture the magic Harold brought. His smile and enthusiasm and kindness turned what would have been an acceptable and enjoyable meal into a great experience. It felt like the kind of service that people get at fancy restaurants in the movies. We usually go to Mi Ranchito down the street but we decided to try this place and it was a big mistake! We are from Texas and we have eaten Tex Mex everywhere. I ordered a cheese enchilada and a chicken enchilada. When my plate came it literally looked like mush! My enchiladas looked as though nothing was in them, they looked as flat as the mushy beans. I took one bite of each of them and they were not good. I didn't want anymore and refused to eat it and this has never happened at any Mexican restaurant in my life. So our waitress comes and we tell her we want to send it back because I don't like it, she just stands there. She goes and gets another waitress and we tell her the same thing. She argues with me telling me nothing is wrong with it. I said I want you to take it off my check and she flat out lies and tells me she can't because her manager is not there. We say ok, and we just decide to pay and go even though I took 2 bites. So as I'm walking to the front, I see a man I think is the manager and I approach him and sure enough his name tag says manager. I tell him I didn't like the food and he tells me the food is fresh. Ok maybe it is but it's still not eatable. It was obvious they don't care if you like it or not, they want you to pay. They have no concept of making sure a customer is satisfied and leaves happy. And so when they don't, they leave reviews like this. We left and headed back down the street to Mi Ranchito and pulling in and seeing how many cars were there, we knew we were not wrong. I ordered the exact same thing and ate every bite. Do yourself a favor and go to Mi Ranchito, the people are nicer and the food is so much better! read more
