Just a few more miles further from Zumwalt , you'll find the trailhead to the Mist Falls Trail ( not to be mistaken from Mist Trail in Yosemite).

The tree itself is truly impressive and worth seeing at least once--it's amazing to stand in front of something that massive and historic. That said, expect large crowds and long lines, especially during peak times. It can take a while just to get close enough for photos. Parking was also a challenge during our visit. Spots fill up quickly, so you may need to circle around or wait. We started from the top parking lot, and while going down is manageable, the hike back up is pretty exhausting, so be prepared for that. One downside was the restroom condition--they were quite dirty and looked like they hadn't been maintained well that day. Also, just a heads-up: not everyone we encountered was friendly, so patience helps in crowded areas. Despite these issues, it was still a memorable visit. Just plan ahead, bring water, and be ready for a bit of a workout.

The view is great especially when you can see some snow at the mountains. I would recommend this place if you are not able to fit in any other site seeing spots. Next, Tharp's Cabin is a very nice ADA accessible trail that I recommend seeing, very unique and wonderful close up views of sequoias and the meadow. The views on this easy trail fit the monumental national park vibes. Bird sounds and more remote and expensive. I would not recommend Lodge Pole trail to waterfall unless touching the river water is exciting to you or plan to sit and picnic by the river water on a hot day. The trail is similar to the Vernal Falls at Yosemite but views are meh when comparing the two. Memorial Day 2026 had shuttle waiting times of 40 mins per shuttle. The park was not equipped for the extra visitors so normally shuttles stop at 6pm but were still running when we got on the last shuttle at 7-7:30pm. The signs should change from the shuttle every 15 minutes to up to an hour on busy holidays. I felt bad for the people at the back of the line as they were announcing that they were going to start ending them. Certain parking lots or lodge locations had flushable toilets, but in the more remote trail head locations they were out houses. The Moro rock and crescent trailhead outhouses had wasps flying inside and outside the bathrooms May 2026 , so I would not recommend using those bathroom locations and plan to go before or after at a different place. The Big Tree Museum, lodgepole, The famous tree place, and some others had flushable toilets and some other bigger locations scattered around the park.

However, since we had my 73 y/o FIL with us, we realistically could only go one way (and pro-tip to avoid our rookie mistake -- go the other direction instead of what we did, which ended up being uphill). So we drove from Wuksachi down to Lodgepole, parked there, and walked up. After the family got back to Wuksachi, I made the walk back down to Lodgepole, but to get there faster, I walked down the main roads instead of through the woods. About 10 minutes into my walk, a car pulled up and the driver asked if I needed a ride. He is the owner of this tour company, and he thought I was a park employee. I explained the situation to him and he happily gave me a ride down to Lodgepole to get my car. He even gave me some tips on great spots to picnic, swim, and how to beat the coming weekend crush of visitors. Turns out he's lived here most of his life, having grown up near Kings Canyon. If we didn't already plan out our short stay, I would totally book them as it was clear they know the park inside out.

I felt like I was inside a Windows Screensaver! Absolutely mesmerizing. Pictures don't do it…read morejustice. Lots of trails and different walkways to take. We went early in the morning and caught a momma bear with her two cubs. We found a tree that was hallow on the inside and it quickly became my boys favorite part of the trail. As for me, the meadow was the best part, magnificent. We also saw deer. Highly recommend to get there early if you're hoping to catch any wildlife.

Marble Falls , Sequoia National Park…read more First time I did this 5 years ago it was breathtaking gorgeous. Misty , foggy , a bit dark in lush green rainforest like tropical jungle. Second time was like that also. Third time today (04.10.22) not so rainforests - like due to burns. Really sad. Almost the entire place was affected by the fires. Looked completely different from last two times I did this hike. Nevertheless the water was raging at the falls. Some sketchy areas on the trail due to washouts. Sad to see graffiti on some boulders ( they weren't there 4,5 years ago). Tons of native species like Mariposa Lilies , Ithuriel's Spears, Pink Fairy Lanterns, a few blooming Yuccas , birds eyes gills, popcorn flowers, fiddlenecks, Madia , Chinese Houses , Tritelea, California Goldfields, Brodiaea, baby blue eyes etc. First time I did this 5 years ago and second time 4 years ago , my hiking buddies and I did not see a single other hiker but today tons , too many to count. It's too crowded now. Because of the burns and the crowd , 4 stars otherwise if this was 5 years ago definitely 10 stars.

Not a difficult hike, and pretty close to the main entrance of Sequoia National Park. You have to…read morego through the Potwisha campgrounds and park your car at a small parking lot. You start by following an aqueduct and then at a sign, you turn right and start going up. It is a moderate distance, 3.5 miles to get there. The views are breathtaking and you have a waterfall reward at the end. Which actually may vary if in the dry season. Alternative: If you don't want to hike that long and still want to see a nice amount of water, instead of going left on Powisha Campgrounds, go right and park at this little construction site. Follow a small trail, that will lead you to a bridge. Before you reach the bridge, will see to your left ancient paintings and if you keep an eye on the grounds around the bridge, you will see holes in the granite (mortars) that were made by local tribes to grind nuts. We were advised not to go too far past the bridge because it "gets snaky". We didn't see any rattlesnakes, but kept close to the bridge, which was gorgeous with a swimming hole and a little private beach.
