Approximately 2 years ago I went in for cataract surgery and had both lenses replaced in my eyes. So they did not require me to have glasses to drive anymore. Well about a year and a half after the surgery my eyes started going fuzzy again. I went in to see them they did an eye exam and said oh looks like you need to start wearing glasses again. Then they gave me a prescription that was completely wrong I ordered glasses couldn't see out of them and had to return them and go somewhere else for a different eye exam. I would avoid these guys at all possible. read more

This is the first time in 55 years that I have ever felt the need to complain about a medical appointment. My husband and I have been to Mountain View Eye Center many times over the years and although the previous owner was quirky, it was possible to get an appointment with her and she was always kind to us and took the time to talk to us. My recent experience was so different. I now know that if you visit Mt View, you will spend a great deal of time with technicians and very little time with a doctor. While some of these technicians are very kind, many of them are rather prickly and you don't get to choose who sees you. Since these are the individuals who will be poking your eye to determine your eye pressure, I would like to have some consistency so I can build up trust. Ophthalmic technicians may have Associates Degrees, but it is also possible that they just have a high school diploma, on the job training and passing certification scores. All this is fine and they are common in the industry, but Mt. View has 10 people in the technician department. During my recent visit I saw 5 different technicians and spent very little time with an Optometrist or even more importantly an Ophthalmologist. The only reason I chose Mt. View was because I was hoping to be seen by an Ophthalmologist. I probably would not have been upset if I had been seen by the same Optometrist I had during my last visit, but I was not offered the choice to be seen by him. Honestly, I thought because it took several months to get an appointment and because I was now on "glaucoma watch" I would be seen by an Ophthalmologist. When I went to my first appointment this year, I was greeted by a very kind technician. She did all of the preliminary tests and was the one to do the "poke" pressure test. After waiting many minutes an Optometrist rushed in with another technician. The 3 of them spent most of their time talking to each other and I was asked very few questions and there was no attempt at friendly conversation. I was given the shortest eye exam I have ever had in my life and although it is great to have a new prescription without scratches on my lenses, my vision is clearer with my old prescription. Although the Optometrist made no mention of the syndrome I was diagnosed with, I was at least told to schedule tests and an appointment to have the tests interpreted. I was told that I could not do them on the same day as I had done every other time I have had these tests due to "insurance reasons." I accepted the necessity and three weeks later I went in for the tests and the next day I came in for the appointment. I was excited to get the results and discuss them with a DOCTOR. When I walked in the room there was another technician! She started by putting up the eye chart and had me go through and read them. I explained that I had just had an appointment and I was wearing the glasses with the new prescription. She then wanted to stick her fingers in the air and test my peripheral vision. Confused, I reminded her that I had just gotten a Visual Field Test the day before and was here to get the results which would be much more accurate (and expensive). I finally asked if I could just see the doctor. I was now 20 minutes into my 3rd appointment (after 3 months of waiting) and was really hoping to just have time to talk to a doctor. She went and got another technician and I was told that I could not have the doctor explain the results to these expensive tests unless I let one of them poke me in the eye and test my pressure. Again I wondered why the doctor couldn't do this as I have experienced many times in the past. By then the idea of either of these upset technicians poking me in the eye was unacceptable. I started to realize that if I was diagnosed with glaucoma, I would have to continue being seen only by technicians, with a very few distracted moments with an Optometrist. I have worn glasses since I was 10. It has always been a dream of mine to simply wake up and just be able to see. Thanks to Dr. Kearsly and Dr. Lantz, my dreams have come true! My lasik surgery was amazingly smooth and well explained! The staff is amazing and extremely accommodating for nerds like me who ask 100 questions - huge shout out to Kyle Swisher! As someone who is constantly active - outdoor bouldering, mountaineering, hiking, diving, and running NBC's American Ninja Warrior - I've spent hundreds of dollars and countless time using contacts or loosing glasses. I'll never have to worry about my comfort or safety again! This surgery has truly changed my life and I'll never "look back", excuse the dad joke. A few years ago, I heard great things about this clinic so scheduled an appointment. Through several phone calls and questions by me whether they would like my records from my prior eye doctor, I had no comfort level in how they operated. So I cancelled my appt and when to another doctor. Recently a very good family friend sang their praises so I thought the issues that made Uncomfortable originally had been ironed out. So I tried again. I had a much Better comfort level (they asked the right questions, they even called to reschedule sooner, texted with a reminder and even called about insurance!!). BUT WHEN I SHOWED UP, they said that the doctor I was scheduled to see (by their choice) wasn't available to see me with the type of insurance I had. I had Taken the afternoon off work knowing I would be spending most of my afternoon here. With all the communication between us, you'd have thought they'd be more organized with how they handle their patients. Well no need to worry - I am not now nor will I ever be their patient. "Would you like me to reschedule your appt?" We did that and look what happened. You scheduled me with a doc that doesn't take this particular insurance. Doctor Johnson, your front office customer service is sorely lacking. First time shame on you; second time shame on me. There won't be a third time. read more

I saw Dr. Johnson and her team a couple months ago for a routine eye exam. She was exceptional, as was everyone with whom I interacted. Competent, courteous, and efficient - I could not have asked for more. I left with the most thorough eye exam that I ever had and confidence that all potential issues had been uncovered and addressed. I strongly recommend her and her clinic. read more

So after being a patient of fairbanks eye center for over 16yrs, moved to montana for 5 then back to fairbanks....we have eyemed through our dental program, which 4 facilities take in this town...after calling 2, they denied accepting eyemed, even though i verified...I decided after a dangerous situation with my eye, and fairbanks clinic unsure how to handle I thought it was time to change....so i went to mountainview eye center....what an experience...8 tests, 2 optic test, the eye pressure test and additional test for nerves...never in all my years of wearing glasses and contacts have I had that much testing, they take my insurance, I have discounts for glasses, the dr. Danica Lantz was informative, explaining all she saw and what needed to be watched out for...I therefore called my family members and said...move your paperwork over to mountainview eye center...I have a medical background as well, although not optical...enough to know when a MD/OD/OPTHomologist Optomotrist knows thier stuff through how the test and respond....top notch business here...I will trust no other from now on...now I just need to get my dilated eyes to calm down so I can read a little better!! This needs to be your choice for quality eye care. read more

I have a feeling that I'm not alone when I say something's not quite right here. I feel like none of the doctors want to explain why I need to come back time after time. I almost get the feeling that they need cash to pay for that big new building they're in. I've switched to another eye doctor in town and so far I'm happy with the service and billing. read more

I recently took my 91 year old mother to the Mountain View Medical Center. I was very impressed with the professionalism of the Drs. here and their willingness to take the time to explain everything to my mother and myself. The exams are very thorough and the staff, from the front desk to the Drs, are outstanding. When my mother had to have cataract surgery I could not believe how much time they took to explain the procedure to her, to provide charts and paperwork to track the eye drops that would have to be administered after surgery and once she was in the hospital we saw the surgery coordinator at least 4 times and the Dr. just before my mother went in. At no time were we left hanging or wondering what was going on. I have never seen such fantastic caring or service. We will definitely continue to go here for our eye care needs. read more
