I had a blast going solo on a 5 day Yellowstone/Grand Teton camping trip. Justin and Eric went above and beyond to make this trip top notch. They did not disappoint. If you are going solo, as a couple, with friends, or family this trip is for anyone wanting to check off several states or national parks off your bucket list. The guides take care of everything which makes it easy, stress free, and that much more enjoyable! MountainBased provides tents, sleeping pads, and sleeping bags to use during the trip. Not to mention they cook and prepare each meal along with sharing their knowledge of each park on hikes, at camp, and while in the van. There were 11 of us on the trip. Myself, a couple, and 2 families of 4. We traveled in a nice comfortable 15 passenger van. Best to bring a day pack/camel pack, layers, good shoes to hike in, and bug spray. The level of customer service MountainBased provides goes beyond guiding. I have to admit I was nervous about going on this trip solo. Even the first moment I called to inquire about the trip James quickly eased my fears and answered the million questions I had. It's family owned and operated and they take pride in what they do and love what they do.

Being on my own, I didn't want to hike along for fear of safety issue so decided to pick MountainBased for a tour of the 5 mighty national parks of Southern Utah. Their reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor were all excellent so I signed up. Great choice! There were six of us customers on the trip with guides Eric and Jared. Both are smart, knowledgeable and caring young men who made sure that all of us were having a wonderful time. The 12 passenger tour bus is modern and comfortable. The accommodations and restaurants they took us to were great. The parks we visited were nothing less than fabulous. Being the oldest of the group and wanting to take many photos, I was allowed time to rest and compose the photos I wanted. Always, Jared or Eric would stay with me as the younger group continued alonNote: bring a good camera. All and all, a wonderful experience!!

MountainBased hosted a superb week in Utah's Mighty 5 National Parks! I traveled solo and felt safe the entire time. Had two incredible guides - Nick & Chad - as well as a wonderful group of 11 other travelers who got along great. Everything was top notch! I highly recommend and will be looking into the other trips they offer.

My boyfriend, Andy and I had the experience of a lifetime exploring Zion and Bryce through Mountainbased. They picked us up in Vegas, provided all the camping gear, food, and knowledge of the area for some incredible hikes with views that'll leave you in awe. Nick, Eric, and James were excellent hosts and ensured we were prepared for each days adventure. Andy and I are so grateful for the hard work you three each put into making the trip unforgettable for us all. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Don't hesitate! Book it! You will NOT regret it!

Just finished an awesome five days with Justin and Steve, who led us on amazing hikes in Bryce Canyon, Grand Staircase-Escalante and Zion. Great guides, with a wealth of knowledge about local history, geography, flora and fauna. Nice campgrounds. This ranks as one of our best family vacations.

Can't say enough about our adventure trip with the fantastic folks at Mountain Based! My wife and I did the Utah Mighty Five camping trip and our two guides Justin and Nick who took care of every single detail. The camping equipment, camp food, daily hikes, agenda, logistics and FUN were all arranged. They hikes they arranged were absolutely amazing! I would recommend Mountain Based to anyone who wants to change it up and climb on big rocks. It was truly a trip of a lifetime for us! We are already booking for next year's trip to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons.

We had an incredible time! Jared and Eric are amazing! Professional, knowledgeable, and fun! The hikes were gorgeous and the lodging was incredible. The views were truly remarkable! They've thought of everything! We plan to book the Yellowstone trip next and will be shouting how awesome Mountainbased is from the rooftops! Do yourself a favor and book this trip NOW... you'll thank yourself when you're overlooking the canyons in Zion.

We booked with a large group and several of the group members felt that they were treated rudely by her. She was incredibly hard to get ahold of through both email and phone call. We contacted her several times through email and by phone about her using an incorrect email address for us that she never did correct. When our flights were canceled due to weather we were not helped by the office. We were informed that they could not help us with anything due to the trip being within 24hrs. We where directed to a phone service that we were on hold with for 4.5 hrs. After an hour of hold I called the agency office back to ask about cancellation policies and refunds for days missed and they informed me that they couldn't help with any changes and that I would have to wait on the phone like everyone else and they didn't have a magic button to push us through in line. The online service took so long our original airline was already booked full and we had to pay extra to fly with a different airline. We were also told that we would have to pay a penalty fee for missing a day at the resort due to weather, even though weather was out of our control. Overall we were very upset and would advise against anyone else using this agent or agency!

As much as I like to buy tickets online these days, when it comes to international travel, I'd still go to a travel agent first. They have on occasion, helped me save a couple of hundred dollars. Sherry and her travel agency is quite popular among international students at the U and for a good reason. She'd be willing to explore all possible flight combinations before putting forward her best price and itinerary. Tickets booked through her have never given me any problems and the flights have been uneventful, which is always a good thing. Even the one time I had to cancel my tickets, she was able to ensure a quick refund. The downside is you need a bit of patience while dealing with her. The only way to get a quote from her is by meeting her in person. Good luck trying to get a quote over phone! Even if you manage to get one, you'd still be better off sitting with her and negotiating the best route and price. While I now know other travel agents who are easier to work with (over phone), Da Fa may not always be my first choice but it's good to know it's there.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly…read more We just returned from a Murdock Group Tour we booked for a Royal Caribbean Cruise traveling from Rome through the Eastern Mediterranean. The highlight of the trip was to be a visit to Israel. There were two groups sponsored by Murdock Travel on this cruise: 1) Our group, which was hosted by BYU professor Anthony Sweat, and which consisted of approximately 80 people, and 2) a "Gentri" group, which featured the singing group Gentri, and consisted of approximately 400 people. The GOOD: My sincere compliments to Dani Edmunds (Murdoch's Tour Director for our group) and Anthony Sweat, who both went above and beyond to make the trip enjoyable and educational. Our trip was to include a 3 day / 2 night land excursion in Israel, with hotel stays in both Jerusalem and Galilee, and which was, quite obviously, the reason that we all had booked this Murdock Tour. The price for this Israel portion of the tour was $599 per person. The BAD: As we were approaching Israel's port of Ashdod, the ship's captain announced that, as a result of the developing Israel/Palestinian hostilities, the ship would divert to the port of Haifa instead. All tours of Israel were to commence from there. We did land at Haifa and each passenger cleared Israeli immigrations in anticipation of an early start of all shore excursions the next day. During this process, the captain made an additional announcement that it had been decided by RCL that the ship should leave Israel and all Israel land excursions were therefore cancelled. To RCL's credit, in the same announcement it was clearly stated that all charges for those who had had booked the ship's excursions for Israel would be immediately refunded. In addition, without being asked, RCL credited $250 per cabin as partial compensation for the inconvenience and disappointment for this unanticipated change in their schedule, which was certainly no fault of RCL's. The UGLY: What was to happen to the $599 per person that we paid directly to Murdock for our Israel Tour? Had we booked something similar through RCL, it would have been immediately refunded. I asked that question of our tour Director, as I'm sure others did, and was told that Murdock management was looking into it. (Note: some of Murdock's management, including Larry Gelwix -- founder of Columbus Travel -- which merged with Murdock -- and host of his long-running "Getaway Guru" radio show -- were actually on this cruise.) To my knowledge, no general announcement was made to either of Murdock's groups that any refund was under consideration. It's almost like they are hoping the question will go away. Given the multitudes of hotel rooms not occupied, of meals not served, of busses not needed, of local tour guides not used, etc., etc., certainly Murdock's unrecoverable costs for the planned Israel Tours is minimal. Naturally my question (and that of many others) is what happened to our money? To-date, a week after the cruise has ended, we have heard nothing, not even a whisper. Poorly done, Murdock. You are better than that, and your customers deserve better than that. We're still waiting...

My family and I encountered the Global Travel Network / Casablanca Express booth at a local fair,…read morewhere they offered us a "free" 7-night vacation if we paid $50 and attended a sales presentation. We agreed, paid the $50, and scheduled the appointment. We were told that both my husband and I needed to attend, so we arranged childcare. After sitting through the one-hour presentation, we declined any additional purchases. The representative confirmed we still qualified for the 7-night stay. That is when the issues began. To even select a destination, we had to go through a long, multi-step process. Once we completed that, they required an additional $100 deposit, which had never been disclosed before. Then, we were told we would be contacted "in a few weeks" by an agent to select our dates. Eventually, we selected travel dates and were told we would not receive hotel information until 30 days prior to our trip. That made booking airfare extremely difficult. When that 30-day mark came and went without any contact, I began calling. I left six voicemails over seven days for the assigned "travel agent" without a single response. Finally, after contacting their main line and demanding help, I was connected to the agent. When I asked for our hotel information so I could move forward with flights, he told me he could not provide it and that the booking department would call me back in two weeks. That meant we would not know where we were staying until about a week before the trip, which is not reasonable for a family of four needing to book airfare and make plans. The agent showed no concern or willingness to help. This has been incredibly frustrating and feels like a total scam. After paying some money and investing hours of time into trying to claim this "free" trip, we are left with nothing. Our two children are heartbroken and we are extremely disappointed.

These guys made applying for our China visas quick and easy. We just printed out the form from…read moretheir website, followed their instructions, tips and tricks, and filled out our application like the sample application showed, took our pictures, printed out ALL of our hotel/flight plans (accidentally did this on card stock...oops), turned it in, paid the money, and that's it. 12 days later we had our 2 visas. I appreciated them looking over the application to make sure we did everything right. Both women I interacted with were very friendly and helpful through email and in person. Two things to note if you're looking to go to China... 1. If you live in Utah, you have to either go through a service like The Travel Broker, or you have to go to the Chinese Emabassy in Washington D.C. yourself. If you have a friend or family member in or near D.C., you could send them everything and have them do it for you as well. A weekend trip to D.C. probably won't cut it as it takes a few days to process it apparently. 2. If you can make it work, look into the 144 and 72 hour transit visas. These are free and you do them on the plane and when you land. If you did a trip to Beijing, Hong Kong, and then Shanghai, you could do it without paying $250+ a visa under these rules. Bonus tip that I wish I had known earlier...if your passport expires within a year, get it renewed before getting the visa. You get a 10 year visa if you do this...if you don't, you'll get a less than 1 year visa. Fortunately/unfortunately, my wife is planning on changing her name within the next 10 years, so we were going to have to get her a new visa anyways...though if I had known this beforehand I would have scheduled our trip to make use of the 144/72 hour visas mentioned above and avoided the visa cost in the first place. Oh well. I will say one thing...their website is bizarre. Just ignore it. My parents recommended this place to me, I went to their website and...well just go to their website yourself and remember it's not the same quality their actual service is.
