Comparing great ski resorts is a little like comparing luxury cars. They are all exceptional for different reasons, and declaring one objectively superior can become a fool's errand. Deer Valley belongs firmly in the luxury family skiing category, with incredible grooming, excellent service, and an atmosphere that makes an already extravagant sport feel even more special. What I remember most is how easy and pleasurable the entire experience felt. The mountain was accessible, the lift lines were manageable, and the trails never seemed oppressively crowded. Every piece of infrastructure appeared to work as intended, allowing us to spend the day skiing rather than navigating logistical headaches. The grooming was especially memorable, with wide stretches of perfect corduroy that made it incredibly satisfying to settle into a rhythm and carve. One morning, I skied the glades with a friend who was far more advanced than I was. I spent much of that session right at the edge of my comfort zone, following him through terrain I probably would not have attempted alone. We made it through, had a great time, and then spent the rest of the day bombing groomers with considerably less anxiety. That combination of technical tree skiing and beautifully maintained cruisers captures what I love about Deer Valley. During these trips, we generally rented a house in Park City and drove to whichever mountain we wanted to ski that day. Deer Valley, Park City, and Alta are all remarkably close, yet each has a completely different personality and style of terrain. That proximity is one of the great advantages of skiing in Utah, especially when Salt Lake City International Airport is so much easier to reach from the mountains than Denver is from many of Colorado's comparable resorts. With a rental car and a little flexibility, you can experience several distinct versions of world-class skiing during a single trip. Part of Deer Valley's mystique comes from the hotels, even though I have never stayed at any of them. The Montage, Stein Eriksen Lodge, and St. Regis all look almost absurdly comfortable, and I can only imagine the convenience of waking up in one of those properties and walking directly into a ski day. I do have a particular fondness for the Bloody Marys on the St. Regis patio and the funicular that connects the hotel with the ski area. Even stopping there for a drink makes the resort feel like a full experience rather than simply a mountain with lifts. Someday, I would love to bring my children here and watch them experience skiing in a place that handles families so thoughtfully. Skiing is an extraordinarily expensive activity and a genuine privilege. Still, it is also one of the most exhilarating workouts imaginable and an incredible way to spend a day outside with people you love. Deer Valley combines that physical intensity with an unusual degree of comfort, polish, and hospitality. It has been a while since my last visit, but I remember the experience warmly, hope to return, and highly recommend it. read more

Still one of our very favorite resorts - total princess treatment with the friendliest staff and ambassadors anywhere, free overnight ski check, super nice facilities, and best of all, tons of great runs, lifts and skiing. As an added bonus - no snow boarders! Restaurants are really good, too. This year, they added 10 lifts and gondolas, 100 runs and double the terrain. But the snow this week was better on the traditional ones. You can check your gear overnight for $20 either in a multiple day locker or basket check. Finishing 6th day here. We were in deer valley resort for a week to ski. Our friend and us enjoyed the property which had friendly staff. Some of the issues were there was no conveyor belt for children learning area due to lack of enough snow. For a premium luxury resort curated for premium experience they did not have a backup plan. Children were spending more time to climb up than skiing. For a $4000 private lessons for 5 people this was not acceptable. Hopefully this will change in coming years and deer valley will think of some plan B for no snow days . read more

The Tale of Missing Skis TWICE in One Day! MORNING: Another Deer Valley guest took my rental skis by mistake (look alike). After seeing another pair of skis that look similar but never moved... I mentioned this to the DV team and they contacted this particular skier to see if by chance they had the wrong skis - Yes, they had the wrong skis and all was rectified. This is the perfect example of how well Deer Valley Skier Services perform with excellent customer service to all guest. AFTERNOON: After lunch going out to hit the slopes, I went for my rental skis which were placed off to the side away from other skis - I looked, and looked again, thinking - this cannot be happening again. My skis were gone (once again) now missing twice in the same day. I notified Deer Valley Staff again and they also thought this is unbelievable. At day end, Deer Valley was notified that the skis had been turned in at Snow Park. DEER VALLEY STAFF: Many thanks go out to the entire staff who got involved in the "Missing Skis Twice Situation". Deer Valley Resort is a great place if you like to ski (you cannot snowboard here). They do have a reputation of attracting snooty people, but at the same time, this resort is impeccably well run. The staff here are very competent at their jobs, seem to enjoy working there, and I think they do get paid better than Park City Resort next door. I am happy that Alterra Group owns them, as I have an IKON pass and like to use the Deer Valley days on my pass. It's always a treat to come here. The traffic and parking are more reliable than the Cottonwood Canyon IKON pass resorts, which makes it a great spot to hit up when I know there will be atrocious traffic at some of the other Utah ski resorts. Additionally, you don't have to pay for parking. The other perk is that even if you are parked at the far end of the parking lot, they have a complimentary shuttle service that takes you to the main lodge from that part of the parking lot so that you don't have to walk a long distance in ski boots. I also appreciate that their food and beverage program is so well curated. They definitely put a ton of pride into making sure every aspect of the experience is excellent, and you can see that in the way they do food and bev. I highly recommend their famous turkey chili, and I like to load mine up with the complimentary toppings. They are also known for their chocolate chip cookies, so if you are wanting something sweet, give that a try. All that being said, know that there are some entitled people skiing here, as the luxurious experience and no-snowboarders rule do attract those types to this resort. Entitled skiers can be pretty dangerous to ski next to, because those people are not following rights of way, watching out for other skiers, or yielding when they should. Give those people lots of room and "drive defensively" because those are the ones that may collide into you. Also, it's very expensive to ski here if you don't have an IKON pass. It's one of the most expensive in North America if you are buying a day ticket, so keep that in mind as you plan your trip. read more

When you come to Deer Valley there are complementary ski and boot check in. There are soo many trails that are green, blue and diamonds. The ski lifts are good, there lots of places to eat. The ski runs and terrain at Deer Valley are top notch. From the ski valet to the friendly people on the mountain, it's no wonder this place is frequented by celebrities and the upper class. I will say the prices are steep. One day of skiing will run you anywhere from $289 to $329. Yikes! And forget about the food prices. Lunch for two people is easily $60. All that aside, you definitely feel elite when skiing this place. The trails are super groomed and nice and long. If you get a chance stop into the famous apres ski tent by the St Regis. Or get the fanciest free hot chocolate you've ever seen inside the hotel lobby. My boss and I stopped in on one of our runs. read more

Deer Valley is one of my favorite resort in Utah. Everything about it is top notch... service, lodging, food and terrain. It can be pricey for those who are not used to pay ski price. Lift tickets on weekdays are $249 and weekends are $269... Lunch, my bowl of chilly and bottle water was $25. The chili is tasty, lots of beef... way too much beans for my taste, but delicious. They are so have killer cookies if you get a chance. My experience at Deer Valley has always been excellent. If you're visiting from out of state you'll definitely need multiple days (it's big) Ohhh it's SKIERS HEAVEN... sorry no snowboarder aloud. read more

This is the first place we went to learn to ski so we enjoyed the bunny slopes and a lesson from an instructor on opening weekend. The staff here are so helpful and loaned my wife poles free of charge because she didn't have any. Our ski lesson was $260 each for a three hour lesson in the afternoon. I think it was a great value. The ski instructor was very skilled and helped us learn to stop, turn some, avoid injuries, and more. You can go here six times per season with the full Ikon Pass. The bunny slopes here are good, but some say the greens are steeper than other slopes. I can't wait to come back here but I think we are going to ski at Solitude until we get better as they allow unlimited visits per year with our Ikon pass. I also came back to add that we were able to drive to the resort in our front wheel drive Prius with no problems as the roads were mostly clear following snowfall. read more

While I love skiing Deer Valley and enjoy the amenities & service... they have eliminated the affordable Locals Ski Pass this 25/26 season. The new "Limited" pass is $1500 and makes it hard for non wealth locals and workers to enjoy the slopes. I find it sad and disappointing that Deer Valley is pushing higher prices and exclusivity over actual benefits for the sport & community ! read more

If you've never skied a ski-only resort, Deer Valley offers that as just one more reason to go. It's a lovely mountain with great runs. It's one of the most expensive single-day tickets I've ever bought, but it was well worth it, even this season so far, when the resort has had to make $2M worth of snow because they haven't been getting much. There are obviously tons of amazing ski destinations in Utah, but what sets Deer Valley apart is the experience and the customer service. Everyone working is there to help make your day and your experience as seamless as possible, whether you're skiing, visiting the spa or just working from your computer while your friends hit the slopes. It is extremely expensive, but you do get what you pay for. It is definitely a destination for people who want the full boujee ski experience complete with a fun lunch and apres ski. Interesting day. Big Cottonwood Canyon was backed up due to heavy snow and avalanche control, so I drove around the mountain to Deer Valley. It was the first time I had ever skied here. The mountain was fun, with easy and expert terrain--something for every level. The only thing is there is no snowboarding, so if you want to switch to the board based on conditions or for any reason, you can't. Would recommend if you like to ski and want to get away for a minute. read more

Overpriced lift tickets and restaurants for the quality of the slope. Parking is an absolute joke as we had to walk 1/4 mile back to lodge. They do groom and valet skis which is nice but they should for the price. Park City is a much better value , experience and overall maintained and larger mountain and quality runs. Do not use the scenic chair lifts here!! We've been stuck on the lift for almost an hour now with our two children. I called to see what was going on and was told that "it does that sometimes". That is insane and unacceptable!! My 6 year old is traumatized! We'd go 20 ft then it'd stop for 5-10 minutes and kept doing that over and over. read more

Deer Valley has one advantage over other destination resorts: crowd control After that, it comes in second place in head-to-head competition with other resorts. It has some good terrain off the Mayflower & Sultan lifts and the chutes off Empire. Otherwise it's deluxe groomers. It's best suited for people who don't live near quality resorts and prefer a safe option with kids or aging relatives. It is exclusively for skiers; no snowboarders. read more

We have ski in/ out accommodations at Canyons but always make the drive to Deervalley at least twice to get that special pamper that simply can't be compared to the three star service and grooming at Park City. Came here after sking another resort for a week. This was hands down the best day of the week. The staff are so friendly. Everyone, and I mean every staff member I encountered was nice and proactive in helping. The lodges were clean and bathrooms kept clean as well. They have racing which the kids loved as well. Friendly staff in the still offering tips to them. Really a gem in Utah. The parking was not very easy but we did find a place. The lodge food options were good. We ate in the Silver Lake Lodge, Pho, salads, pizza, burgers and chicken all fresh made not like some fast food. Can't wait to come back! read more

I went downhill biking for the summer and it was an amazing experience. The staff was very experienced and the bike rental adjusted the bike based on my height and weight. They had two large flow trials (5 miles) that were more fun than a roller coaster. In addition they had blue and black trails for those that wanted a more technical challenge. This is my favorite resort in/near Salt Lake City, UT. We usually ski the resorts in the Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons, coming to Deer Valley is a different experience!! Also, Deer Valley is a ski only resort. From Salt Lake City, it's a hop onto the 215 and then onto the I-80, about 40 minutes drive when there's no traffic. There are plenty of parking, 5 lots with Lot #5 being the largest. Free tram/shuttle take you to/from the main lodge and these lots. There's a nice pick-up/drop off area if you want to unload your people and equipment first before parking the vehicle. Lots #1-#3 is okay walking distance with skis and boots on. In the main lodge (Snow Park Lodge), there are day lockers and baskets to put your shoes/boots that you can rent for the day. The restroom facilities are nice here too, the ladies stalls are roomy for you to use the toilet comfortably. At other resorts, there's barely any room to move/maneuver and I was always bump my helmet on the bathroom door and have a hard time lowering/raising myself from the seat! The ladies' restoom here also supplies complimentary pads/tampons! The greens are nice and wide for learning/beginners. The blue trails on Carpenter Express may be a little daunting for skiers just starting on Blues, Last Chance is doable. The Northside Express is the best lift for beginner Blue skiers. Sterling Express is advanced blues! The trails there are a little steeper! Another thing I love about Deer Valley is that they'll have marshalls at the lift lines 99% of the time to keep everyone civilized and fair loading onto the lifts. Also, the vibe and feel of the people that ski here, seems more considerate and polite. You'll still have the occasional skiiers that will totally zoom by you, but I guess that's normal. One drawback is that the lift tickets here are on the pricier side. Also, the food at the lodges/restaurants are also high. Expect to pay $15-$20 for a bowl of chili. The coffee shop at one of the lodges only charged $5 for coffee, so that's not too bad! I would totally come here as often as I can! read more

Summer. My heart can hardly take it. Summertime is that magical time when anything is possible, when things are so alive, and it seems impossible that things will be cold again. Summer is still so full of promise, and hope, and sunshine that makes you want to discover something new every day. Might I suggest discovering Deer Valley in the summer? Oh sure, winter is when the skiing takes place, and the rooms are booked, and the PIBs ski down the upscale slopes. But please, oh please remember the summer. Perhaps no one event better exemplifies this than the summer concert series. I recently went to see a concert here and it nearly broke my heart how almost perfect it was. I've been a fan of Amos Lee for a decade, and never managed to see him in concert. When a friend had extra ticket, I jumped on the chance and made the drive up. Deer Valley in summer is gorgeous enough as it is: there are trees, the large green lawn, lots of luxurious places to stay, and you're only a few minutes from the heart of Park City where you can shop and dine to your heart's content. There's some great dining in Deer Valley proper, so don't overlook those options. We opted for none of them, as I was with a small group and one of the fellas brought a picnic. That's the magic of the concert series. You get a ticket on the lawn, and you go and spread out your blanket (or your chair--height limits apply) and have your own picnic. I sat there and listened to Amos sing "I am at ease, in the arms of a woman," the Utah Symphony providing his backup, and the sun setting behind him on the stage. I thought about that feeling: being at ease in the arms of a woman, and how it also perfectly describes a backyard summer picnic. That feeling of knowing you're in the right place, at the height of the right time, and if you are in the arms of summer, that redheaded woman in the long flowy vintage dress, you could almost stay there forever. 5 stars all around. I took a newbie to ski and was SUPER impressed on the green runs and bunny hills to teach her. Excellent small chairlift hill for teaching. You first start on a small bunny hill, then there is a longer one, then u advance to the chair lift hill. On top of the customer service of a super duper fancy resort, the newbie I was with, dropped her ski off the lift and I kid you not, the ski came up on a chair all by itself without even telling them. The service there was impeccable. The weekend rates were $229 a day so be prepared to drop some cash!! PS- I overheard an employee say "It always shows on Friday's" so make sure and come on a Friday wink wink... read more

Let me just say, Deer Valley is famous for a reason! I have never skied in such luxury before! The numerous lodges around the mountain are so relaxing and beautiful, you may just want to stop skiing altogether! The runs are perfectly groomed and, while they do have more beginner terrain than other mountains, there is terrain suitable for any level of skier so bring the whole family. We did! Lodge food is never thaaat great but the food here was pretty good! The lifts have gorgeous views of the many mansions in the area as well as the rest of the mountain. There are also sites from the Salt Lake City Olympics that you can see! Yes it's expensive ($150 a day) but it's unforgettable. Just remember it's ski-only so leave the snowboard at home this time! read more

We have been coming to Deer Valley for years and have normally had exemplary experiences with the customer service and the private ski lessons. This year, however, we had a terrible instructor who could not handle three beginners and gave up within 25 minutes of the lesson. Instead of trying to accommodate us and find a different instructor to replace her Deer Valley was not helpful and charged us $1250 for one hour of instruction. The support staff was rude and accusatory and gave zero consideration to the fact that we are yearly customers who spend an insane amount of money at the resort. Instead of helping reach a resolution or even apologizing for what occurred, the manager I spoke to conducted a cross examination and suggested we were fabricating the story. We have reservations to come back in 3 weeks and I wish I could cancel them at this point. We are extremely disappointed. read more

Great resort. I've skied here a few times during the winter and have hiked during the summer and fall. Very beautiful place. Service has always been good abs some amazing hotels (St Regis and Montage) on separate sides of the resort). Like the fact that it's ski only and they limit the capacity, although it was insanely packed in the am on the last weekend of February. Definitely see myself coming back. read more

Wow! Amazing resort, and they know it!! Definitely a little pricy to ski, but had a fabulous time! I had come out from Florida and had an absolute blast. I was getting ready and having myself a cold one in the parking lot before going in. I got all my SNOWBOARDING stuff on and sat with my friends for about 45 minutes the someone finally came up to me and told me it was ski only. I guess I should've read more carefully on their website, but no snowboards were allowed. Thankfully I was able to rent and their ski rental area is pristine! All of that aside, we had an AMAZING time. The conditions were great, the employees were fabulous, the facilities were pristine and the lifts were fast! read more

This review is based off the resort for business purposes. I didn't stay here or ski. I came here for a business conferences organized by my company. Parking isn't marked obviously, but you can tell by where all the cars parked. The conference rooms are very big and spacious. They do provide a projector and other amenities needed. There is a person that is assigned to the event to clear plates/cups and set up all the meals and stuff. The breakfast and lunch that was chosen was delicious. Who ever plans the event gets to chose the type of food. The outdoor seating is really great to enjoy the food. There are plenty of hikes around the resort that people can enjoy. Across the street is a beautiful lake to enjoy a nice walk after you eat. read more

More expensive than other mountains in the area, but worth it. Last time we were in Park City, we skipped Deer Valley and were told by a few friends that was a mistake. So, when I had the opportunity to be in SLC, we decided to head back to Park City and ski here. Our lift tickets and rentals were higher than many of the other places we skied, but we liked how well the resort catered to beginners. Everyone at the resort was friendly and attentive from the folks in the rental shop to the ambassadors stationed at the lifts. Even the restrooms were nicer than most places - well stocked, coat hooks, etc. We spent the whole day on the mountain and skied almost every green they had. We loved having so many options; all of the runs were well marked and nothing was overly crowded. The snow was pretty good; not too many icy patches. The only rough part was the bottom of Success that was complete slush. As a mediocre skier, Deer Valley is a place I'd return. There are so many options, it doesn't get boring. read more

Deer Valley Resort was wonderful, the runs were great, and the views were spectacular. It's everything you would want in a ski-only resort. But what really sets this place apart is the staff that works there. Our car key was accidentally locked in the trunk of our car in the parking lot. Ski School Instructor Hunter Marlon not only called AAA for us, when AAA got repeatedly delayed, he waited with us in the freezing cold weather for a total of 3 hours (AFTER his shift). He even ran late to his family dinner appointment for us. And Hunter wasn't even our ski instructor! We couldn't have been more grateful. The warm hospitality and patience Hunter showed us definitely made us want to come back again to Deer Valley very soon. If you visit Deer Valley and would like an awesome person to be your ski instructor, look for Hunter! Con: The only Con I can think of is that there is no direct lifts that runs from the base to the summits. read more

This review is for the downhill bicycle rental. My husband and I had a blast. We YouTube'd the beginner trails and felt we were good enough. And after I spoke with one of the downhill teachers, I got a little bit worried, LOL. But I think we held our own just fine. We did the Holy Roller several times and then ventured into some of the intermediate trails and we loved every minute of it. We appreciate the military discount and would love to make this an annual tradition. We asked several employees about their feedback on some of the trails, and each one was very attentive and took several minutes of their time explaining things to us. I did find their opinions different, but I guess that's to be expected some discourage to certain Trail while another person recommended it. In the end, we were happy with the day. read more
