The teaching is BOLD- Fresh Real Powerful. I can see how it would irritate a lot of lukewarm Christians because at first we were tweaked! However something (later on realized it was the Holy Spirit) told my husband and I to keep coming back. Our lives have transformed in such a good way!! This Church helped us grow as Christians, heal, and put God's word into practice daily. I've never consistently read the Bible on my own before Awaken- now it's my special time with the Father to get to know Him more. Yes this Church has strong stance on Biblical principles And we are called to fight evil, false prophets and also the antichrist. Which can offend a lot of people who believe / tolerate those things. We also believe in self responsibility, self leadership first - and then discipleship- be discipled and disciple others to bring them closer to Jesus. Some people get mad about Awaken teaching on being prosperous, and how to be prosperous- which is biblical and also what the Father wants for His children. I am so glad to have found a Church that is not shy on teaching biblical truth and standing up for what's Right. Many churches are silenced and walk on eggshells so they can keep the congregation attending. I've met the most authentic, amazing people at Awaken and so many of them with a servant leader's heart. They offer their own time and anointing to serve others well. Many leaders poured into us (and others)- which we are so grateful! When a Church isn't lukewarm- it gets haters. Pastors aren't knowelegable about the bible. I go to Daybreak Church now and luckily aren't as traumatized as people I know that went to Awaken and don't ever go to church again. I have been attending for years and this church is more than it's Sunday service, it's how they foster community. It's ridiculous to make assumptions when you don't take the time to get to know the people and see what the church values. I've attended many churches in and around San Diego. I think it's going to outgrow it's current location at the Lake Pavilion because people are starting to find out about it and they are joining and inviting their friends. (The office address is not where they meet). The pastor, Jim Brown, has a way of explaining the bible (it's a bible based Christian church) that makes you not only understand the bible better, but it also makes you want to be a better person. His wife acts as the church hostess and makes sure that all feel welcome and handles announcements, and logistic issues for the congregation. It's a community church, so there are many different denominations that attend, and probably some non-believers as well. When I started coming here I figured the average age was about 85. The average age is lowering now, (I'm seeing some people in their 30s) and as families start hearing about the pastor and the general welcoming feel of this church I think this will continue. Right now there is no youth program so if you have children you need to be aware of that, but I do think that this will change over time. There is one 10 year old who attends. They do create CDs after every program, so you can also listen to a sermon if you want to hear more before you attend. I give it five stars.

Mission Hills Church has a very welcoming environment. The Pastor delivered a very touching sermon and included all the children in attendance. My children were encouraged to speak as much as they wanted to. This is a large church with a huge parking lot. There is also a building for hosting a small reception.

Because the program relies on store donations, the food isn't always fresh. People understand that--when you're hungry, you adapt, even if items are close to expiring or need to be used immediately. What isn't acceptable is how the operation is run and how people are treated. Recent distributions have felt like a chaotic free-for-all. Food is set out on outside tables, but if someone touches an item before an arbitrary signal is given, volunteers talk down to them like they've done something wrong. Instead of letting people use their own bags, everyone is forced to carry around heavy, leftover store boxes that are weighed and tracked, even though one box isn't enough to feed a family. To make matters worse, volunteers treat guests with constant suspicion--falsely accusing people of trying to "double dip" Meanwhile, volunteers routinely hoard the best items for themselves, play favorites, and allow line-cutting--often with clear priority given to "pale" visitors while others who have waited for hours are pushed back. Being in need of food assistance shouldn't mean forfeiting your dignity, being falsely accused, or watching volunteers stack the deck for their favorites. Leadership urgently needs to step in, oversee their volunteers, and address this bias so this center can treat everyone fairly.

Like all calary chapels the Bible is taught chapter by chapter verse by verse and then they start all over again, this process can take many years. Its a great way to go through the Bible, there is so much to learn. They have weekly bible studys and prayer meetings for men and woman and monthly mens breakfast and BBQs. They go out as a whole church group and have lunch together once a month. The worship is fantastic. They are small in size so its easy to get to know everybody they are very friendly. I do have to agree that it is a church that almost seemingly results in a religious cult. You ask your self what is a religious cult? A religious cult can be described as religious or semi-religious sect whose members are controlled by a single individual or by an organization. This type of cult is usually manipulative demanding total commitment and loyalty from its followers. Another good example of a cult is they claim to be Christian, and even consider the bible to be authoritative. But they manipulate the scripture to fit their own beliefs.
