I love Movement, this is my home climbing gym. The membership can be pretty expensive, but it comes with a one time 20% off purchases from the store, multiple guest passes, and access to their workout gym and classes (yoga, skill classes for climbing). They have lots of routes available (both toprope and bouldering). As a heads up, it can get really busy later in the day, and the parking lot can get full so you may need to do street parking.

I can't help but still call this place EarthTreks. This has been my home gym for about 4 years. I've really enjoyed climbing here and from my experience the people and staff are quite nice. Pros: -During the pandemic, EarthTreks did their best to keep folks safe. There were limitations on the number of people in the gym and mask requirements as guided by the CDC. Now they are back to "normal". -Routes are updated on a pretty decent basis so there is always something new to try. -Free classes for members which is pretty awesome. Cons: -Sometimes smells like feet. But, you can't really hold that against them since they are a rock climbing gym and the gross climbing shoe smell is inevitable. Solid option for climbing in the north Bethesda area.

Great climbing gym with lots of top /lead rope climb options as well as bouldering. Staff are friendly and helpful. They also have a good gym and room for yoga and classes.

Great open space with lots of resting spots, clean facility, friendly staff. Lots of lockers and cubbies to store your belongings. Parking lot is a bit small though.

Bae and I went for a date. We really enjoyed our instructor and had a good experience overall.

I will say the place can get kinda crowded on weekends which is nice but first timers beware. We had a great time. For first timer the intro class is a great way to learn and try it out. It's best because your instructor will have tons of patience and go step by step. I love this place and will be back

Hi Ursula! You can definitely bring your daughter. Earth Treks Rockville has open climb session every Saturday and Sunday for 30 dollars per person for 3 climbs from 9-5, with harness included. I've seen staff belaying for people during open climb.… Read more

Earth Treks is really good with changing out climbing routes, so every few weeks there are new routes to try out.

The Sterling location isn't as big as some of the other climbing gyms, but it is plenty for a climbing session. I will say, the one issue of this location is that since it's a little small, the bouldering section is a little cramped in spacing compared to their other location in Alexandria. Not a a big problem at all, but can be during peak hours. Their staff here are very nice and friendly as well. Always a good group of people being welcoming to new guests and members. The facility itself is also well kept and clean.

I tell myself that making time and partnering up is better motivation and will ensure that I actually make the time to work on my fitness. Forget all that. I come for the eye candy. Plus, I lie to myself and imagine that if I keep up with climbing, I'll also have a ridiculously ripped, lean, toned body with a perfect V-shaped torso. No, don't burst my little dream bubble. Fair warning. Until you obtain a membership card (which took us roughly three weeks from signing up), you'll have to deal with the stench by the front desk. Our suspicious: the stack of rental climbing shoes that have been worn by countless people. Fortunately, I can now hold my breath or breathe through my mouth as I navigate past the worst of it. Once you're back into the main part of the gym, it's much easier to breathe. With plenty of bouldering, huge tall walls for belay climbing or top roping (which I still haven't experienced myself), and a couple of auto-belays, there has always been ample room to find a wall to climb. Plus, membership benefits include free yoga classes, a significant discount on climbing gear (which, believe me, I looked... it's never on sale anywhere), and a huge benefit on pricing for classes. The staff here seem well-informed and helpful, and it's always been easy enough to hunt someone down for questions about the gym, equipment, or suggestions on how to improve. After about a month, I can legitimately say that I'm pretty addicted. Whether it's on the climbing itself, or the view... well, jury's still out.

My only slight complaint is that it's a bit pricey, but being the only bouldering gym in DC, that's pretty understandable. Despite the price, the first visit is free, so I enjoy taking people here to check it out. The bouldering sections are huge, especially for a city gym. The entire gym is also very clean and well-maintained. The bouldering walls have a lot of unique features, mainly the small cave structure and the overhang ramp. The staff is also very friendly and excited to help show you around. If I lived in DC, I can see a lot of value in the membership, since it includes the bouldering walls and the regular gym amenities.

Was excited to give this place a try since I've only been to Sportrock and Movement. The Facility: Nice and spacious building. Has a nice variety of walls for you to choose from (Cave, overhang and moon board). They also have a small little fitness area with dumbbells, barbells and some cardio equipment as well. The mats are are well cushioned too, to catch your falls and there are plenty of cubbies to store your gear and be put out the way. The Routes/Grades: Their routes are on the v-scale and were somewhat accurate to the grades from what I've seen. I saw a mix of grades that I did and didn't agree with, and I can see this being a little hard for some beginner climbers. But, my biggest problem with this gym is that the holds here are all old and dirty. For the most part, the whole gym was kind of dirty and didn't looked well kept. For some of the routes I was on, the holds didn't make it enjoyable as dirty holds left me slipping off my feet. They were quite dusty and full of rubber shavings and the whole gym didn't look well kept at all. The Staff: Staff here are very friendly! They were helpful with any questions I had and were respectful. Overall, a 3/5. Was quite disappointed with my experience here at Vertical. For the amount it cost for a day pass, I would look elsewhere like Movement or Sportrock.
