John is the owner of this company. The first time we used his company they went above and beyond. In July we hired them again and it turned out to be the worst move of my life. I'm not new to moving. This was move number 26 for me. It took him, his friend with a bad ankle and a high school boy way longer than anticipated to load the trailers. John called other movers who freelance to come to our house to help. John said he was going to be at our house because he is responsible for the guys he hires to help him. Here are some of the highlights of what our household goods looked like when they arrived in Texas. We have some very expensive antique furniture that can't be replaced for any amount of money. The hutch made in 1841 was scratched, gouged and is missing a piece of hardware. It should have been carefully wrapped in moving blankets, but had no blankets when it arrived in Texas. Many pieces of furniture have scratches and gouges. One coat rack is completely broken in 2 places. An antique commode had the leg completely snapped off. This doesn't begin to describe the damage to our antique furniture. There were empty beer bottles shoved into one of my wardrobe boxes. If that's not disrespectful enough, there was a bottle with urine in the trailer! The guys had full access to the 3 bathrooms in our house. We made sure the guys had water, sodas, Gatorade and tea to drink. We bought them lunch every day. We didn't feed them pizza because I know movers get tired of pizza. Then they disrespect us by drinking beer and shoving the bottles in with my clothes and not loading the truck carefully so our stuff wouldn't get damaged. One of the guys John hired even commented that we must have "deep pockets" to afford all of the stuff we have. Not exactly professional people!! You as the consumer can make your own decisions. If you want your furniture scratched, gouged and missing pieces then you should probably hire this company. If not, hire someone that's more professional. read more

As a military member, it seems like I move for a living. I've used a plethora of different moving companies all over the country, and Moving Stars Moving Assistance is BY FAR the best! They were so flexible and understanding whenever an emergency popped up, and we had to reschedule. This happened 3x in a matter of weeks, and whenever I called no matter how late it was or even if it was the night before, they were gracious, respectful, and kind. The day of my move they met me at the U-Haul and saved me money as I was renting things I didn't need because they brought them without me even asking. I didn't even pay close attention to the size of the truck I was renting because I was mentally fatigued at that point and I reserved the smallest truck with a ramp. All the while we get to my home, and we notice the truck may be too small for the amount of stuff I owned. They guaranteed me they would do everything to make it work! They did, it was like watching life size Tetris because they phenomenally fit everything neatly and precisely! I was amazed because I had doubts up until everything was in the truck and it was driving away. When I say they are the best moving company it's because they worked hard. Hourly movers can try to gouge you and drag the job out, but they didn't. I never had to rush them along or encourage them to go a little faster. They were focused and were asking me "is this box ready?" or "Can we take this now?" It was a privilege working with them as they packed up my house and unloaded it in my storage unit. If you want professional, personable, reliable, and hardworking movers then this is the company for you. You won't regret hiring them. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY, I would give a Zero star, but that is not an option! Buyer beware, they have no issues with ELDER ABUSE! My elderly father and his wife needed to move quickly due to an unfortunate situation. They called John and hired him. Several things happened: 1) John and one other guy came to bid the job which is on 28 acres of land. The rates seemed reasonable and my dad moved forward. What we found out later is that John had underbid the job. Read section three to find out how we figured this out... 2) John and other guy, Drew, came LATE the day of packing. Actually blamed my dad and his wife for not being able to get packing done until late into the night even though JOHN was the one who showed up late. 3) The day after packing, they show up to drive and FINISH the packing they did not accomplish the evening prior. When he finally they drove up, 3 hrs late with the load, he claimed my elderly father owed him more money. This being after he told my dads wife the previous day that they were paid up completely. 4) My husband, myself and this Drew, unloaded the UHaul. Please keep in mind, my husband nor myself should have had to do this. John also asked my husband if he could call our friends to help unload! And while John and Drew took their couple 35 minute breaks (during a 4 hr unload) my husband and I were still unloading the truck. During the unload all they did was complain about how many items my dad and his wife had. To the point that I told him to stop and let's finish up. 5) After truck was unloaded they claimed that they had no cash to put into the gas tank (mind you, my dad had just paid them the day prior, in full). They abandoned the 26 foot UHaul truck on my dads property for us to deal with. 6) I told John the evening prior, while unloading that I would pay him extra to fill up all of my dads trailers on his property, rather than just the one he was planning on doing. He agreed to this. However, John never finished the job (aside from abandoning the UHaul) by going to my dads property the next day (was supposed to only load my dads other trailers, not drive) and leaving after an hour of doing nothing but walking around my dads property and calling me every 5 minutes and complaining. ***Please note, I had specifically asked him to focus on getting the items out of the HOUSE to start, not the shops. When I asked why he left he stated, "It is too overwhelming and my mental health can't handle this. If they want me to come back, they have to give me the '72 Dodge Truck or the Tractor that is on their property". After reading the reviews here, this is apparently not his first, and most likely won't be his last, time quitting in the middle of a job after getting paid. 7) Due to the UHaul situation, I had to contact UHaul and conference John in so he could make me an authorized person on this truck so I could figure out how to get it off my dads new property, which John did the authorization. I ended having to extend the date out as I had to drive 350 miles to finish packing my dads place. 8) While trying to pack up my dad house, he kept blowing up my phone. His wife finally called me and, due to her "private investigator company" she was able to "sleuth" and called me by my previous married name. I did tell her she may want to look into something else as she is, obviously, not good at PI work since I changed my name over 5 years ago. 9) John has since contacted the police to report the truck stolen. When I spoke with the officer, and sent him the email UHaul sent me, he agreed that this guy is just angry that he, most likely, underbid the job and wasn't able to weasel more money out of an elderly couple. After the police notified him of the results of their investigation, he started to text and threaten me. AND they still have the audacity to send me their PayPal info and requesting money from me now! Please stay away from these people, they won't do you right, at least if they think they can take advantage. Please review the attachments that substantiate my claims. read more

I wonder why in 13 years, no one has ever posted a review on this moving company? I'm happy to be the first. The owner John quit on me 20% of the way into moving a 4 Bedroom, 3 bath, 3 car garage house. He left behind a family of 4, 3 of which were over 60 years old, 2 of which were women, to complete most of the job. What kind of moving business quits on people? So unless you can afford to take the chance of being quit on, I wouldn't recommend this company. To be fair, to rate John on packing 3/4 of the 8x8x16 POD, I would give him 5 stars for packing, and deduct 1 star for only packing 3/4 of the POD in 3 hours. This includes having us drag most of the stuff out of the house for him to pack. At that rate, John would have stretched a one day job into 2 days. Why? For the MONEY overcharge on an open, by the hour job. John quit once he figured out we were working to make sure he didn't stretch this into a 2 day job. The other less than honest thing John did was our contract specified that they would send "2 insanely strong men" to work on the move. John would be one. The other helper turned out to be a young teenager, 15 or less, and only 140 pounds when wet. Most of the time we saw him carrying pillows, or nothing out of the house when following John. My 62 year old sister in law carried more heavy items out of the house than the kid did. This was done so John could keep most of the MONEY. Do you really think John would come close to splitting the hourly rate, like he would have to if he brought along another "insanely strong man" as a mover? If you ask John what happened, he would likely tell you that he was not treated with respect. Well, respect happens to be a 2 way street if you know what I mean, unless one person happens to be a King or President. So, I will assign 1 star in my review to Moving Stars Moving Assistance for being an early quitter. I really think John quit because he realized that he was not going to be able to pull his usual MONEY scam on us on a by-the-hour job. The last scam John tried to pull on me before he left was he offered to return the next day, on the 4th of July, to complete the packing of the PODS. I said, and what? Have everyone here stop working at 11:00 am when he left, just hoping that he will return to help us on a major holiday the next day? We used this company based on a friend's recommendation who has been happy with them in the past. Well, this turned out to be a very frustrating experience. We requested 3 guys. Two showed up. John, the owner was not one of them. They were friendly but didn't seem to have much experience doing a whole move without John. When we got to our new house and things were unloaded, we noticed bumps, scratches, scrapes on our furniture - and many broken items as we went through everything in the next few days. Also, they scratched our brand-new hard wooden floors in many spots which we now have to look at everyday. At the end of the move, they dropped off the U Haul we had for the day for us (which is nice). However, they failed to drop the key into the drop box that was there (and they had been talking about it all day how they go there all the time and do business with this particular spot regularly). UHaul charged us $100 for this mistake. When my husband called John about this, he was told that that is our problem because we did not tell his guys to leave the keys (even though they claimed to be familiar with the vendor). John also told my husband re. the damages that his "guys" told him that a helper we had for an hour (who only handled my husband's things and who did not go near any of the furniture the movers had on the UHaul) has been drinking according to them (which is a lie) and that therefore he does not believe that "his guys" could have possibly done any damage. After some back and forth, he finally said that he would come by to take a look at the damages but first he has to go out of town for a week (...) and that he will be by after that. This is about 2.5 weeks ago now. We never heard back from these people. I tried calling John again this last week and left a voicemail. No response in over 4 days. Nothing. They just went dark on us. Due to the amount of damage and cost, I have decided to document all the damages and file for reimbursement through small claims court. Hopefully we can get some of our money back from these people. Do yourself a favor and do NOT use this company. You will regret it. They will be nice and charming and oh so enthusiastic about your move BEFORE the move. And then they move you and when things go wrong, which they will, they will go dark and leave you alone with your damages and the cost you have to fix what they did wrong. I take it that some people were happy with their crappy services, not sure what their circumstances were but the positive reviews also seem to be a bit older. This "company" is unprofessional, extremely rude and they will lie and go dark just to get out of their responsibility. read more

We used Star Movers to move my brother from his home to an apartment and we were very pleased with the way they carefully handled everything. They even assembled the bed frame, attached it to the headboard and placed the box frame and mattress on it saving us from any heavy lifting. Very strong, courteous and accommodating. My move in day movers were hours late and when finally arrived it was only two small movers and I had expressed that I had large and heavy furniture prior to the move. I had to call family to help me move due to one of the guys being lazy and taking a bunch of smoke breaks. They literally threw all my furniture in the truck damaging and scraping my furniture. One guy all most damaged my glass table by dropping it and it landed on his foot and left me with one mover. The worst part of the story is I drove to a motel to pick up the manager to continue my move and set up my furniture at my new place. The furniture wasn't assemble properly and my son fell out his bed sleeping!!!!! This company is a nightmare and I wouldn't want anyone to experience this!!!! read more

I was totally, 100% with John, I had a big move that was thrown off a day by the co I was renting from, everything was going nuts. I got ahold of John and Angie and they were quick, careful- not one cup was broken-they were fun to be around and very hard. I had my move of a 2 bedroom house done in 5 hours, which included my real estate appraisal business, it was wonderful. What really nice people, too. I enjoyed them being in my home and felt like I had known them for a long time. John is coming back to help set up one piece that would not fit through a door and a bend at a corner in the house. I am looking forward to seeing them again. Oh, and strong is not the word, I am surprised he didn't carry the whole house over, on his shoulders... it was a good time and a very good move. Moving Stars did an excellent job loading up our household belongings located in Oregon and delivering to our new home here in Chico. They were very professional and took excellent care of our belongings. They were almost able to put all of our belongings in one truck and when unloading, it was evident they are very knowledgeable- way better job than Two Men and a Truck did when they packed up our belongings in Oregon and put in storage. Two Men and a Truck did not place blankets on our leather furniture before shrink wrapping them and were rather careless with loading some items. Excellent service! I called them late one night to see if they could help us unload our moving truck, not expecting them to be available. But, John and Gerald were able to help us out and were at our place early the next morning! They had no problems carrying our stuff upstairs, even carrying bookcases one handed! They are very nice guys and worked very hard unloading. No damage to any of our stuff, including a China hutch with some of the glass still in it that couldn't be removed!
